Have you been living with your Thai wife in the city for 17 years?

Will you be paying for the land which she will own?

Could you adjust to country life and how far from the nearest large town is this land?

Would you want to build a house on the land or just lease it to other farmers for rent?

I live in rice country, but my wife is a mango farmer. I could never go back to the urban jungle, here or anywhere.

Good luck in your investment plan.

That's not the question he asked !

  2. You will be taxed at the source, means you will be paying tax in the US and Thailand have no double tax law. As long as you pay your tax in the US then you dont have to pay in Thailand. I do have an income in the US and I file my tax return and pay my taxes there, I don't have to pay tax here in Thailand since I ve been taxed at the source. Thailand and US have some special agreements about taxation etc.

  3. That's not true. You can keep it in foreign currency. I have US dollar account in the Krungsri bank and I don't even have a bank book, because bank doesn't issue a bank book for foreign currency account, just an ATM card they issue. I just get a bank statement and copy of my ATM card to present to immigration and that's it. Not a problem with immigration. Don't be afraid of having ATM card. Every ATM machine has a camera and they record anybody is doing transaction.

  4. Aerox is a good looking scooter. I prefer Honda PCX over Aerox. If you will pay all cash then negotiate the price. They will come down 1-2 thousand baht. You can buy good helmet from Lazada for decent price. Don't ask dealer for a helmet before you negotiate the cash price. Ask for 2 helmets after you agree on the cash price  then sell those helmets online for few hundred baht so good helmet you buy will be even cheaper for you.

  5. That will be considered as  a  bussiness loan not a house loan. You are buying a company not a house. real estate is company's asset. If the real estate is not used as an income property the answer is no you cant get a bussiness loan either. Bank will want to see P&L statements. If company is not generating profit then you can't get a bussiness loan.

It could be all the tourists that arrived in January, now getting an extension on their 60 day tourist visa. Mid Jan is probably the height of arrivals for high season so many would have arrived then and extending now.

Does Samui usually require a bank letter for 90 day report ?

They didn't asked bank letter on my previous 90 day reports, they do ask for it on yearly extension.

I do. Have a close friend in Udon Thani on retirement extensions who was forced to apply for  the Thai insurance or told to leave the country. Happened about a week ago. He originally entered on an OA visa about 10 years ago, been on extensions ever since. He had a Health insurance policy (non-Thai)  for a 1,000,000 US dollars but they refused to accept it.......

Immigration officers are a law unto themselves, what the next one will do, who knows, but this DID happen. Can only hope that some sanity will soon prevail, or we all need to start making plans.

Probably that's a life insurance. I don't know about 1 million dollars health insurance. If anyone can afford to pay premiums for a million dollar insurance then he shouldn't complain about 45000 baht a yr Thai insurance premium, Bcz 1  million dolar US insurance premium will cost 45000 baht a month in US  maybe more with global coverage. Even Union retirees or union workers don't get that kind of coverage. How do I know? because i was a union worker once.

This is so laughable. The flight ticket from UK to Thailand costs more than the average junior immigration official starting salary or is close to it. Average Thai salary is only about 16000 Baht. So if the officials are able to live here how come tourists flying from Europe could not?! You could live easily with less than $300 per month in Thailand.

That's the point. $300 a month ?! Thai goverment don't want foreigners to live on $300 or less every month and they are right.. They want tourists with money they can spend. They don't want backpackers or low life old farangs who go after girls at their granddaughter's age or underage girls. Which is we all can see everywhere old farts with young girls next to them.

Think before you criticize what is your home country's immigration policies. Any EU countries or USA will allow low life people with no money or old fart child molesters into their soil just because they have a visa, $5000 in their vallet or right to have freedom of travel?
