I have done mine in Koh Kamui. Just showed them my ATM card and a letter from the bank. I don't have a bank book since my money in the foreign currency account in Krungsri bank and it's been transfered more than 2 years ago. I don't touch that money and stays in the account all the time.

Price just about right for the consumer. Hotels are paying 1400 baht +/- for the duvet cover, 750 baht +/- for the king size bed sheet 100 baht +/- as wholesale price. Some people will jump on my reply just to say something. I know the prices because I have an industrial laundry!

Normally it's illegal but they don't enforce the law since law enforcement officer also burn their trash. It's their way of life. You can't expect to live European life style and law enforcement in an Asian country or in other 3rd world countries.

Yes you can, And I trust USPS a lot.

Yes you can. That's what I do. I have a US currency account at Krungsi And I use that everytime for an extension. Bank don't issue a bank book for the Foreign Currency so I use bank letter and ATM card to prove the account at the immigration.

I can't tell you what to do but I can tell you what I did.
First I opened a Co., Ltd. I appointed my self as a Director of the company Then I rented the place, did renovation, bought all the necessary equipment, got all the required permits and bussiness was ready to go and actually opened the shop for bussiness.
Then I applied for work permit and got it with no problem at all.
You have to remember this ! You CANNOT get work permit if you don't get required permits for the bussiness from Tesaban and Department of Revenue . So bussiness has to be ready to go and actually you can start making money before you get your work permit.
You CANNOT work in the bussiness physically before you get your work permit. You can be in the shop but CANNOT perform work. They might come to check it. If they catch you working without permit then you can be deported or get denied for work permit.
And to do all this I hired only an accounted not a lawyer.
Lawyers will always come up with things to milk you as much as they can.
If you are an American citizen like me (which helps a lot to throw US passport on the desk) then you can own 99% of the CO.,Ltd but you will still need 2 Thai citizens as a partner with 0.5% share each. You don't need to pay salary or percentage to those share holders and they will have no power in the company as a share holders as long as you are the Director of the company.
You will get many replies to tell you what to do and most will be a joke or confusing.
This is my first hand experience.
Good luck

I married a Thai lady I met in USA, we lived in USA for a while then I wanted to move to Thailand to be come semi retired. I guess I am married long enough and living in Thailand long enough to know a lots of things.
I specially asked to my wife about this topic and she just laughed. You don't pay salary to your GF or wife. Unless you are getting into relationship with a hooker. But other than that of course you should take care of your woman either, GF or wife. Stay away from a woman who is asking you for salary because she can change her job if someone else pays her better salary than you. So she is an unofficial hooker.

As far as I know that you can use local transfer. That's what I did . I opened an account in BKK bank and deposited 400 thousand baht in cash and I just left it there as an extension money and won't touch it. Immigration don't care where the money comes from as long as you meet the requirements.

Thanks Joe, So you are confident that the US passport office will return my current passport with the newly issued passport? That is standard practice?
You need to ask them to return your old passport or transfer the visa pages to your new passport. Otherwise they will not. I ve done it. They trasfered the pages. This was back in 1997. I dont know they still transfer the pages or return old passport back to you. But either way you will have your visas. So no worries.

You have to be 50. No exceptions.

If the hotels paid for, you have nothing to worry. 2000 pound is enough to live for a month for 4 since you are not a much drinker and willing to have Thai food most of the time.
I don't know how much was it 10 yrs ago but Thai food will cost you more less 80 baht per person.
I live in Koh Samui and not a fan of Thai food except fried rice and few others. I pay 60 baht for fried rice with shrimp and 50 baht with chicken.
Other than that, American fast food is cost almost the same what you would pay in Europe or US.
If you want to eat nice steak than it will cost about 500 baht excluding drinks. Most expensive restaurant in Koh Samui charges 700 baht for the steak.
Bottled water is 10 baht, grilled beef kebab on the stick is 100 baht, chicken on the stick is 50 baht at the walking street.
So you will have some idea for the about the street food and can compare what you were paying 10 yrs ago.
In Koh samui Taxis won't turn on the meter. They will charge about 800 - 1000 baht to other side of the island and can be negotiated.

Those people doesn't trust Thai banks because they have no money to put in. I sold my business,5 cars and 2 houses (both were paid for) in US and moved here with my Thai wife as a semi retired and opened a business, I transferred very large sum of money over 2 years period because Wells Fargo allows only 100.000 US wire transfer per 30 calendar day to Bangkok Bank since I don't trust US government for my money. I have no issues with banks here. Each transfer took only 24 hrs to be deposited to my BKK Bank account and I am not worry about that my money will vanish. So as you said those people has no basis for their mistrust. They just don't have the money. And also Thailand is not a Banana Republic. Of course they don't want to see low life Americans or Europeans or whatever living in Thailand for $300 a month and no respect to their culture. This country is not a shelter for low life farangs, who ever lives here for any reason has to have respect for the country. They welcome to leave the country if they don't trust banks, immigration, police etc. Who is holding their collar? This might be the poor country but I don't think they need farangs living here and bitching about anything and everything with few hundred dollars a month. I've been seeing many foreigners feeding themselves 30-60 Baht meal everyday. They have to get a life before complaining about this country. They try to stay here because they can't survive in their own countries. So they need to go back to their country and bitch on their own governments why they can't survive. I am sick and tired of seeing and hearing people bitching all the time.

Bare in mind my visa already had the last stamp '60 extension based on marriage' ..how they couldn't put 2 and 2 together and ask me for the right document I don't know
If you have non O visa then you don't need to do visa run. You need to file a 1 yr stay visa based on marriage at the immigration before 3 months is up. They will give you 1 month extension before they approve your 1 yr stay visa, then they will either call you or give you an appointment to go back to them to get your 1 yr stay visa stamped on your passport. So you don't have to go out of country every 3 months. Actually you don't have to go out of country for years as long as you get your 1 yr marriage based stay visa at the immigration office before it expires.
I just got mine done today. But I don't know if they have different procedures for different country citizens. I am a US citizen and I know they have special rules or agreements with US government for US citizens like US citizens can own 100% of a company. And I got my non O visa from USA and it was for 1 yr, But I still had to do visa run before 3 months is up in order to keep 1 yr visa. I choose to apply for 1 yr stay visa since I didn't want to do visa run. As I said , I got it done just today.

Hey ozmeldo, thanks for such a detailed response,I'll check them out.
Actually, I'm not here for teaching, I work on a niche software technology which one of a thai corporation uses. It's difficult for them to find people from Thailand, hence they hired me from outside. Although one of my job responsibilities is to build the competency in their own organization which I'll love to do.. Probably have to learn Thai.
They were not able to help me with the clinic or hospital because of the language barrier over phone/email. All they say is just go to any clinic and get it done, everyone says the same. I guess clinics are very common here, something very different from where I belong.
I got mine done few days ago in Koh Samui. Just any clinic will do it and it's not complicated. 2 copies cost me 200 baht. You don't need to go to the government hospital nor private hospital . They will charge anywhere between 600-900 baht. It should take 10 mins to get the health certificate . They are not so strict like US or European clinics. Doctor asks you few simple questions, get your blood pressure readings and you are good to go. So nothing to worry about getting the certificate.
