  1. I never bothered any other Visa than ED, Non O and later retirement Visa but the new opportunities seem to get more and more interesting.

    1 Million for 20 years??

This is a really interesting Thread and may be some guys/gals can pile up some info what is possible 2019 and what are the requirements.

There are so much hick-hack going on in TV but real conclusions packed with how to do Info are rare..

Of cause its all stated in the Thai Web Page but sometimes as we all know is official written and the reality way apart.

Good when people would update and say what they really did or had to do, to achieve their Visa from 1, 5 or 20 years..

Usually retirement extensions do not get visits. I think it is the procedure only for marriage extensions.   Well I am pretty sure no-one I know in retirement has ever been visited.  It is usually to confirm that the marriage, relationship and address are all kosher.

    Unfortunately you are wrong.

A female and male officer came 5 years ago, asked where my personal belongings (clothes) were stored, but didn't want to see them in the changing room because we would have to cross the bedroom,

made a Photo in front of the house showing the house number and one of our wedding photo on the living room wall,

they were very friendly apologized for have to do their duty.

I was able to get hold of our Landlord which was much appreciated by her and another Photo of all together was taken.

No drama for me and I understand their job has to be done.

If in Germany somebody lives on benefits and meets a new boyfriend/girlfriend who visits him/her often the Authorities are also coming if the catch wind of it...

...and the do not stop in front of the bedroom door, they even want to see Toothbrushes and underwear in the closet..

  3. Never heard of a 'go bag' and it makes no sense for me. If you pack a bag to run it won't take longer than 5 - 10 minutes.

I thought once it would be a great idea to have a winter and a summer bag ready when I get a call from a customer and have to travel quick to a country up North or South for a job.

As i came on the ship the clothes on the bottom of the Bag were molded and smelling bad due to the humidity in Thailand.

Even after handing the clothes to the Steward for cleaning the dark mold stains still couldn't get washed out.

I now pack my stuff about 2 hrs prior to travelling not to come in such an awkward situation again.

    Cheers for sharing..

I came 2002 but still it had a bit of flair to go to walking street. bar fine, Singha 35 baht and smiles everywhere..

Nowadays, stubborn chicks staring on their Mobile Phones, barfine, a Chick and as excuse: Have not much customers need money.. What the heck..

As I became self employed I usually took my customers to walking street and the next contract was signed there. Bill 2500 baht.

Last year I had a meeting with a Taiwan customer, got him pissed, tied him a chick on the belly for the night and baht were gone in just 6 hrs.. well at least the contract was signed for 2020 and 2021..

somehow the story always continues... is she much younger? Was she a "cashier" in a Bar? Then it is the common old story..

Did you buy for her or did you at least secure your interests by having a Lawyer signing a loan contract, a proof that you paid the house or anything to pull her into bits and make her losing all if she wants it the hard way.

I got a Thai lawyer in Bangkok if the crap hits the fan, he is a bit costly but he knows how to get the wife back to reality,

    leaving her empty handed.

my wife and I won just a case of land rip off, 3 rai worth 3.6 mil. The owners were just losing their house plus all they have and all of a sudden there is a chanote and its official ours, now for sale for 2.2 mil/rai because it had no chanote before.

Their lawyer went pale as we met first time at the court so that confirms the reputation of him..

His 'hit rate' is about 99% and he fully works pro Farang, if he sees no hope he will not take the case, most worried about his top reputation.

But you need a translator, the office is in Pattaya and she can help seriously as she (German) works only with this lawyer.

That is off cause a bit stupid of the American guy.

In my opinion Thailand provides him with the hospitality to live here and when things go the wrong way he talks bad about the government. Sure not to say thank you for let me be part of the country.

If he would have chosen a more diplomatic wording there would be sure some ears in the Thai Government listening to some possible opportunities that would benefit also the Thai People and the Country.

If somebody approaches me that rude I would think the same, get rid of him...

  7. I came to Thailand 2002 found 5 years later my wife and settled down in Pattaya Darkside.

First of all, Pattaya is not real Thailand as we know with all the Nightlife, Tourists and so on..

What made me moving here was mainly the close connection to the airport what is ideal for working abroad.

I left Germany basically chewing on last grizzle and with my wife we established a flourishing life as freelancer.

Then the options when it comes to shopping, you get all western stuff you might miss from time to time and still can go to the Thai markets to score your meats and veggies.

The location of Pattaya is great if you want to go for a ride, either direction are just under 1000 Km if you chose Phuket or Chiang Mai/Pai or Nong Khai..

The Immigration is just around the corner and the service is in my opinion great and professional. People who are moaning are mostly people who come with half the paperwork and expect that they still get the Visas the same day.

I am mostly at home with my wife, but when Friends coming from Europe its not problem having a great night out.

The Hospitals are on a good standard so I feel relatively safe if the :hit-the-fan:

I plan in 2-3 years to retire from my travelling jobs and then I'll say good bye to Pattaya and move countryside as I grew up in a small farmers and seaman's village and miss a bit the quietness and countryside life, but for so long Pattaya is for me a great spot to live even it's grown to a big city while I lived here and it gets me a bit too busy now...

  8. When I do a BBQ I usually don't want to stand near the fire.

Get a BBQ with cover lid..

    Then:

Buy a whole Lamb Leg 1500gr minimum.

Oil it proper and then put Salt, Pepper, Rosemary and a bit of Marjoram on it.

Wrap it in a triple layer of Aluminium Foil and roll this pack on the top together so the juice cannot run out.

Do not punch holes in and have patience, keep the Lid closed and sit down, have a beer with the lads.

Cook it slowly (it should not bubble hard in the package but feel hot if touched) adding from time to time some small pieces charcoal to keep the (medium) heat.

When you open it after 4 - 5 hrs (depend on size of the Leg) make sure that the juice doesn't get lost.

The meat falls off the bone and the juice I guarantee you want to slurp like a soup,

make in Foil baked Potatoes (just throw them the last hr with on the BBQ) to it or just dump baguette or Toast in the juice..

You will experience a complete different Lamb taste than the usual roast.

I had a 1900 grs leg for 7 People and thought that I will have the next day some nice cold meat..

The dog were fighting over the clean bone about an hour after serving...

BUT, the Sunday is over, hence I was too late, but you can still try it the next time..

Strictly speaking, I doubt Buddhism can be described as a religion. It is more a system of morals and ethics.

Having said that, examples are plentiful where, along with religions, people twist it around for their own agendas.

I might have taken the wrong wording..

Fact is I left the church because its not more than a money and war machine.

All these Temples in Thailand are built on donations, one more beautiful than the other and nobody got forced to give.

I leaned from my wife little of the Buddhist way of life, that keeps me since out of trouble,

makes me feeling good when I have a real chance* to help, and as more I didn't bother materialistic wealth,

as more it came to me without praying to a god,

so I take it as it comes and put it away for later or feel happy that I can give to the one that needs in the moment of need.

*Real chances to help are not easy to find,

that's not the beggars with drugged kids at beach road or some guy asking you for money.

it could be a well fed and rich looking Farang, who sits somewhere in the heat, fighting unconsciousness and gets ignored by all by-passers...

Just ask him and he might say, no I am Ok, just a bit warm today, Thank you!

What a honest thank you that is!

It could be the Muslim Cashier at BigC where you queue.

You take your pork chops of the belt and tell her to scan and then put it yourself in the grocery bag.

The smile you get then follows you for a long time.

    or a materialistic one:

Leave a Tip like 20 baht at KFC or BigC Food Court on the tray and write on the Napkin "Thank you for cleaning after me" before you go. The girl that cleans after you will be stunned about the unexpected and consider it a lucky day for her.

    Just as a few examples.

I don't need an imaginary god as long my heart can tell me this is right or wrong.

...and I am sure a person who also can tell somebody he is an idiot, right in the face...  Feels sometimes also good and keeps the balance of life. You get what you deserve..

  10. "God" is a human given name for a higher force. (Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in Vain, 2nd Commandment)

Churches are buildings from Bricks made by humans

The German church deducts a copious amount of church tax directly from your income without asking, BY GERMAN LAW!

Beside this a local (voluntary) church fee had to be paid and if you didn't the church had even the guts to send you a reminder.

Unicef, Misereor and other organisations believe in the compassion of the people asking for donations of the people for the reason that some greedy humans pocket over 90% into their own pocket.

My Kids were grown up catholic and as it came to joining the school the catholic school denied to keep the seats for more important people in the community than were. My kids had to go to a school well known as social burning point 10Km further with 65% Muslim classmates well known for troubles every day spitting on my daughters.

The Bible is a book written by humans not given by any higher force..

Since centuries religion is the worst murder of all.. Is that God's will?

Why Christians hate Muslims and why Muslims hate Christians, don't say they do not. All do on either side!

And who does not is a liar.

(Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor. 8Th commandment)

So I converted 15 years ago to Buddhism and donate when my heart is saying so.

I think there is a higher force we cannot imagine but I believe, if you do bad the bad comes from another end back to you and if you do good it will happen good to you coming from other direction where you not expect.

Is it a human called Name or is it just balance of good and bad?

  11. If you look on the markets at the "real" beggars (not these scums with drugged babies) I see actually a lot of people who donate some coins.

That fellow who was always sitting at Sukhumvit road corner Soi Khao Talo in the police hut (a Dutch fellow) has always bags with food handed over by passing by Thais (not Farangs!!)

I see often that KOTO (Keeper of the Oceans) gets donations by Thais to support his mission to help creatures and poor people.

Physically help might be more of a problem but when it comes to giving I think that Thais are more gentle than other Countries..

  12. The Saddle Bags and Tool Bag for my bike were lowest quality for very little money... two thumps up.

After one dissolved itself by 120 Km/h on Sukhumvit road and the following cars "powderized" it, I had to stop by at the HD Shop and bought some solid Harley bags. High quality for big money. Two Thumbs up.

If you want Chinese crap order at Lazada..

but NO, no verification of my Address was necessary..

  13. I was too quick related as I came here in 2002 so I might be wrong.

    hard working

    willing to learn

    loving and caring

    great housewife

family sense even if the farang's children are from first marriage

    strong focus towards future life

    very good in handling/saving money

patience even the husband works abroad for months

    the beauty

as I said I might have been too fast related to judge properly, but at least my little wife is since 17 years.

  14. The golden Rule for becoming an expat:

it takes 2 days to say "I am gone"

it takes 7 years to say "I am here"

go slow and check out first...

I know my wife since 2005 and married her 2012. She does all the money things as a real wife is supposed to.

The monthly Bank check show me that she lives in average on 18.000 Baht (off cause not including the House rent, electric bills, water and TV) per month and that includes here and there a little donation to my/her Nephews and Nieces when they come and visit us.

So I would say 48000 Baht pocket money is pretty much overkill..

Looks great....can't wait to see your set up.

You know many Leo beers have a way of coaxing out secrets from sea dogs.

    What fish are you raising?

I am on a dry ship and Leo is a pretty magic word ???? in my momentary cut freedom and life style.

But what to do, the money must be earned to build our commercial system in a couple of years.

A Leo is 60 baht and I am not thinking how much we spent till now for both systems.

Piling all rebuilds, upgrades, Labor and operational expenses together, I can assure we hit the 500k THB marker easy over the years.

    What fish we have:

The main target is red claw crayfish as I never experienced such a taste from any freshwater crustaceans.

They are easy beating the taste of bland overrated Lobsters and almost can keep up with King Crabs.

But they just can't pee enough to fertilize our veggies when it comes to commercial thinking so we added 2 years ago also some Tilapia.

First the common ones as they are more robust than the red Tilapia but I see now already no problem to swap them for red Tilapia which are more demanding regarding oxygen and clean water.

Carlyai, we had contact before regarding the Mudbugs and I mentioned that we could swap from time to time some males/females to avoid inbreed. I reckon soon the time will be due to think about again.

At the moment we BBQed all down to a minimum breeding stock for the system rebuild/upgrade, but since the crays got the new home a few females already carry berries again.

  16. Hi all,

going through this thread it seems that there are way more interested home growers than expected.

During my winter break from offshore working I have rebuilt my first backyard system entirely according the demand and experiences made (mainly by my wife)

The result is here to see in my photos:

    20190302_163120.thumb.jpg.8dc8ed8ddbfeea50aec960f46ec3ba04.jpg

    1. The Pipes have been exchanged into deep-water grow beds suitable for rearing crayfish underneath the floating rafts as it has proven in trials by having rafts in the fish tanks that they will clip out any rotten roots and boosting the growth of veggies. Before going commercial we will try this in our test system again to assure that it really works and they are not rampaging the crop. All aeration hoses are now PE pipes because the bigger crays loved to eat the clear hoses or at least cut them into bits.

    20190302_163138.thumb.jpg.a7897b59202e8dca3e91f933a3ee3b88.jpg

    2. The ebb flood grow beds under our terrace had not enough light so we removed them and built 2 big ones outside for more sunlight.

    20190330_182616.thumb.jpg.6887921a3e54dea107300b9870c30080.jpg

    3. The shady space where we removed the ebb flood buckets is now used to get 6 x 300 ltr Tanks for more brood stock. In the background are our new bigger filters with 500 micron buckets. Fish poop (our planned commercial system will produce ruff 100 Kg per day) is worth pure gold as a high grade fertilizer and creates a good side income. That my little wife get the heavy stainless filter buckets lifted I built a "davit crane" (here the seaman in me popped up ???? )

    20190330_182257.thumb.jpg.3a7e35960dc665da4d7bd53414c21056.jpg

    4. Too much air is when the fish blows out of the water. Hence the 2 membrane aeration pumps have been skipped and a Vortex Pump supplies all tanks filters and grow beds with sufficient air supply, before 4 ppm now 6-7 ppm DO in all spots.

The fishes starting eating way more than before.

    20190330_182424.thumb.jpg.74136b18ebdd5a8567c9a6831541dc51.jpg

    5. The aquariums for berried females are scrapped and a breeding station of 8 buckets is integrated in the system which makes it easy to move the crayfishes without turning them into a shock because there is no change of the water quality.

And many other features and appliances have been built in which I keep secret because of the investment and development time of many years.

I hope you enjoy this update and carry on with info, do's and don't do's..

2 days after completion I had a call and went offshore again, that's called perfect timing..

    Cheers

    See Will
