  1. read the previous post several conversations prior to this - it specifies that one on the one-year report of address must also provide certain documents or the agent one sends to do the report.
  2. In my opinion based on communicating with friends in the US, and seeing news articles from around the world and my experiences here in Thailand over the last 50 years - yes I do think that almost everywhere the general public is not very happy. This also seems to be why violence seems to be the reaction of way too many people nowadays. Scary but maybe life will get better and society will come around again to the more pleasant reactions. I try to chat with salespeople who seem down and usually that ends up with them smiling but not always.
  3. I am only telling you my experience and meetings with the BOI reps. In my passport is a note indicating that I am to report where I am living once a year. If it does not apply to you, I am not concerned, just wanted you to know what I have been instructed by the BOI folks. good luck stay safe
  4. one would nnormally need to get a check up if one wanted to be insured to find out if there are any pre-existing conditions. As for how much one needs to put aside, an example is the requirement to obtain an LTR visa, one needs to have health insurance guaranteeing 50K USD for hospitalization or a bank account holding 100K USD for the last 12 months. The amount needed though could vary greatly upwards depending on health and disease issues.
  5. I personally feel that one should be aware of the benefits as well as the requirements for the LTR. I am not going to go through them for anyone as they are easily available online. As for the the BOI LTR that I received in March 2024, it very clearly explained to me that I need to report my residence once a year to the BOI or the local immigration office. All you need to do to confirm this is call the BOI or wherever you obtained your LTR and ask them or read the documentation on that particular visa. Ignorance of the reporting requirements will not excuse one and might be a cause for withdrawal of that visa.
  6. once a year you must notify your place of residence to the BOI or local immigration.
  7. How did you avoid paying US taxes - as a US citizen you can't escape paying their taxes no matter where you reside? Just wondering
  8. smart thinking for sure - just like in the US, many companies have or used to have pension programs for their employees. Thing is a lot of companies go bankrupt due to many reasons and what happens to those employee pension funds. The US govt does have a program to take on those pensions but not at the same monetary level - sometimes less than half that originally promised. And in today's world it is becoming more and more difficult in my opinion to "trust" govt, businesses, individuals, et al. Good luck, I do truly hope that everyone reading this is more optimistic than I am.
  9. As for the LTR you can check with immigratioon or better yet whereever you got that LTR be it the Board of Investment or wherever, but I believe that it is necessary that one meet the requirements obtain the LTR throughout the period of the LTR (ie 5 or 10 consecutive years that you must meet the financial and health insurance rerquirements) that was the impression I received when I was stamped in March 2024.
  10. I blv maintaining the requirements for the original LTR (income, health insurance coverage) will be checked and if you do not then the LTR may be cancelled!
  11. just talk with the BOI and when you go in for ltr stamps, they will have the immigration office within the BOI cancel your retirement O - mine was done that way in March 2024
  12. while under consideration by Govt agencies, they might request additional documentation - as mine did totatl time 3 wqeeks from start to finish with stamps. BOI veryu helpful
  13. YOu have to be able to show that you have a health insurance policy guaranteeing 50K USD of hospitalization locally if needed or as stgated on the requirements, have a 100K usd acct for 12 months I think to be able to pay for any health issues.
  14. WHat is your nationality..I am US so That is what I am experienced in and the BOIU LTR got my stamps in March 2024
  15. Take the chair to a reupholstry shop and explain why you find it uncomfortable like it currently is and he could probably change the seating to better fit your body size.
  16. Well I changed to a BOI LTR, know the current DTA with the US and my govt pension so unless it becomes a regulation that as a tax resident we MUST obtain a TIN then I will do nothing but if necessary, I will get a tax number.. I will not have any tax on remitted funds unless they get rid of the DTA and the LTR as it stands now. I like it here and plan to stay but I have moved from country to country more than 15 times in my life so if it becomes necessary, I will leave but truly don't think that this issue will affect that many of us ex-pats when all is said and done and then just like the drug issue - the govt could come out with all kinds of new regulations and then cancel all of them.
  17. Under the wealthy pensioner LTR, funds remitted into Thailand from working outside of Thailand are exempt, but since an LTR holder can work legally in Thailand, those funds are taxable though I am not familiar with the rate. That is explained if one googles BOI LTR visa and work permit and taxes.
  18. Yes, if one says a Thai massage, they can be very painful if one hsn't had one before. One must tell the "person" doing the massge to be gentle.
  19. Yeah, he expresses the threats to Europe and what must be changed to thwart that threat but as the leader of France he did the opposite it seems to me.
  20. Just got my LTR in March - Yes, I was on a retirement O visa and the BOI when you go to get your LTR stamps, you can also get the immigration officer there at the BOI to cancel you current visa. No problem and only takes a couple of minutes maximum. Easy and they are very helpful!
  21. My insurance company didn't provide a sentence in the benefits package for overseas only stating that hospitalization is covered in full so I wrote a note to the company explaining why I needed a letter specificallly indicating that the company would pay hospitalization of at least 50K USD - the company has done this before and it was no problem at all getting that letter and BOI was happy.
  22. You must be earning that taxed money in Thailand as you don't have to pay tax on any overseas funds that you remit into Thailand with the LTR.
  23. Well for the next ten years you should be good to go with immigration if you have the LTR visa. in 5 years/10 years just keep the 100,000 available or health needs
  24. Yes, they indicate that the 1099 can be used for other category but for wealthy pensioner I learned from a previous recipient that if you send your 1040's in they approve that immediately and then only the insurance question might remain. I have a US govt sponsore insurance and the company wrote a nice letter to the BOI indicating that all was covered as they wanted. SO within 3 weeks I was stamped!
