According to a business student of mine who took a job with one of the major international courier companies in Taipei, the company negotiated a flat-fee deal with the customs authorities, allowing them (the courier) to assess and pocket the "customs duties" for incoming deliveries. If this is the model here in Thailand too, then don't be surprised if the estimate is on the high side. The money goes directly to the courier's bottom line, even though it is presented as if it is an import duty.

Customs here in Thailand provide a detailed invoice, as I received

Good info.......and a pleasant surprise....................I would have imagined that they would been afforded a more 'luxury tax' rate.................

Perhaps tax rates have reduced,  certainly more than 5% on my watch, have the invoice somewhere, but was more like 15 %

  3. Import tax is paid on goods entering Thailand over approx. 1500 baht in value and the tax depends on the type of goods.    FYI  last year received a watch valued for import purposes at 6000 approx.   had to pay 850 baht !

What was not clear to me - as it specifically relates to Bangkok - is whether the two registration centers (Vimut and Bang Rak) are the only places to register or can we go to the hospital that has our medical records as well? Given the number of foreigners in Bangkok, I am doubtful that there will be any same day jabs.

I'm sorry guys, we still can not find any government source that says Chiang Mai has a ban on alcohol sales by restaurants.  That ban is for red zones and a few others that have declared such.  The article on saying ban since Jan 4th was the red zones announcement.  If someone can please point out where in English or Thai this is legally a statement we would be greatfull. Not that I'm gunna die if I don't get a beer with my meal.  Just looking out for the restaurants.

    As always, thanks in advance!

No restaurant can serve alcohol was announced on the 7th, effective from the 8th.  good hunting !

So, we went to Mae Chock Plaza to eat lunch and saw a no alcohol sign on the door and inquired within.  The manager said no Chiang Mai restaurants can have alcohol until January 31st.  We went to another one who said basically the same thing.  I came home and went online to TAT and saw that restaurants in Chiang Mai can not serve alcohol between 11pm and 5am and that was dated 2 days ago.   Had the wife go look up if a local restriction was imposed by the governor or such and she could find nothing.  Where is this restriction coming from?

    Thanks!

6th January is old news, you need to get your wife to check the latest changes on alcohol restrictions !

Below is the link for the Appointment Form

    https://cmimm.net/send-contact/

You can make an appointment 45 days from your expiry date

You fill out the form send it to IMM, they get back to you by email, I guess if the time and date does not suit you, then you reply asking for a new date and time

I had made an appointment for retirement ext. and was given  Monday morning, but having been to the bank for letters Friday decided to try my luck. Arrived 2.45 , out 3.15 , quickest in 15 years !

FYI had applied for apt. in August, 45 days before my expiry on 28/9, but was given an apt. 7 days before due to expire.

A fair guess would be gypsum, as that also is standard in Thailand in houses and apartments since 15 years back

Yes, as you say, standard ceilings are made of gypsum, as is the ceiling in question.

I did my 1 year extension at beginning of May,the offices were open,

so why not do it,while they were not so busy, have also been doing

my 90 day reports, another one due next week, will try online first,

if that not working ,just do it by post, don't want to leave anything

to chance.I can just imagine the chaos at IO ,when the amnesty

ends, it's bad enough after ,say a 3 day holiday.

    regards worgeordie

Totally agree, ideal time to visit immigration for 1 year extension while quiet, using the amnesty as a reason not to, is only asking for problems !
