  1. What with these Thai controls just forget non-fiction and take yourself out of your self and read an exciting set of books like 'The  Spooks'  or the Sharpe books there are so many out there to enjoy without getting too serious.  Also try E books as they are much cheaper. Good luck.

  2. One cannot complain about China spying on the West when the west spies on China.

Nobody in this forum knows whether these particular guys are innocent or guilty. They presume their inocence because of racist anti-Chine bias which has been generated by a coordinated anti-China campaign over the past 4 years.

I have lived in China for a number of years and have seen first hand how badly minorities are treated. One only has to look at the dastardly treatment towards the Uighur and others.  Look towards the South China Sea and witness the fact that China has stolen the entire area from neighbouring countries, then the scrapping of existing treaties with Hong Kong, the daily threats of war towards Taiwan and please note that China now has the largest navel force in the world.  China does not care for the rights of anything or anybody other than what is in it for China.

They are never wrong.  So be very careful of this powerful giant.

  3. The Crown Estate has today (18 September 2020) announced a net revenue profit of £345.0 million for the financial year 2019/20, representing growth of 0.4% against 2018/19 net revenue profit of £343.5 million.

This is directly under the control of the UK Treasury to be disbursed as they will.

So actual cost of the Royal Family is nil but vastly in credit via Crown Estates and of course not to forget tourist revenue.

  4. Why do they keep harping on about a referendum? They had a 'once in a lifetime' vote in 2014 with the SNP losing. Now don't get me wrong, for I believe in freedom of speech and thought but to continually go on about something that is not as important as providing health, schooling and a million and one other things for the populace, is showing a one track mind that will be the loss for Scotland.  I would like the union to remain as it is, however if they vote to go, then good luck and goodbye.

  5. On December 19, 1984, after years of negotiations, British and Chinese leaders signed a formal pact approving the 1997 turnover of the colony in exchange for the formulation of a “one country, two systems” policy by China’s communist government. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher called the agreement “a landmark in the life of the territory, in the course of Anglo-Chinese relations, and in the history of international diplomacy.” Hu Yaobang, the Chinese Communist Party’s secretary-general, called the signing “a red-letter day, an occasion of great joy” for China’s one billion people.

At midnight on July 1, 1997, Hong Kong was peaceably handed over to China in a ceremony attended by numerous international dignitaries, including British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Prince Charles, Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
