  1. Technology improvements every day. This finding seems to be easy to implement. "Researchers found an algorithm that can potentially double the life of existing Li-ion batteries" https://bgr.com/tech/researchers-found-an-algorithm-that-can-potentially-double-the-life-of-existing-li-ion-batteries/
  2. Very similar to what I do, but I use Fidelity ZERO Total Market Index Fund (FZROX) as my fund. I don't know how they make any profit, but the expense is 0. It's broader than the S&P 500, though. https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/FZROX
  3. I also use Antazallerge when my allergies act up and it helps tremendously.
  4. I think there are quite a few but I haven't researched it. Mine is a Mercedes Benz SUV.
  5. I have a plug-in Hybrid here in Thailand, and in my opinion, definitely the way to go. I get about 50kms on battery which covers all my needs except when I go on a long road trip. It's easy to find gasoline on my journey and fill-ups are very fast. This is perfect, for me at least.
  6. It's the opposite, at least in the US. This is what Google's AI wrote: " while sales of electric vehicles (BEVs) have declined, hybrid sales have increased in the US. In 2023, BEV sales reached 1,119,251, up from 760,329 in 2022, but hybrid sales have increased 65% to more than 1.2 million, lifting their market share to 8% from 5.5%."
  7. To replace my Mint Mobile plan, I signed up for a T-mobile pay as you go plan. Prepaid Pay As You Go $3/Month Plan, $0.1/text/minute https://usasimcard.com/products/esim-activation-t-mobile-prepaid-pay-as-you-go-3-month-plan-0-1-text-min This company is actually a service to open the T-Mobile account. I bought the activation package a couple of hours ago, was sent an eSIM, and I activated the number by installing the eSIM which was sent to me automatically. The phone number was activated but I couldn't make any calls because I didn't have any money in my pay-as-you-go account. Any call I made went to T-Mobile service in the US. I had to wait for a while to get a vendor PIN from the service, which was necessary for the next step. I then opened a T-Mobile account on the web, entered my new US phone number, verified my email address, verified the Vendor PIN, and am now all set. Total time was about 2 hours and all was done from Thailand. Now I have a US T-Mobile number and the company that helped buy the eSIM is now out of the picture, ie, all my dealings are with T-Mobile. In summary, it only took me a couple of hours to be up and running with a new US phone number. Next step is porting over my old Mint Mobile number to T-Mobile by calling Mint Mobile Customer service and getting a transfer PIN, then calling T-Mobile Customer service with my old info such as Mint phone number and transfer PIN.
  8. Thank you. It is now clear that it was in error, as evidenced directly from statements of his female 'partner' and other sources in Thai Media.
  9. I'm now retired but worked for many years in Thailand. I paid 37% (or 35%) marginal tax here in Thailand. When my US tax return was prepared on Thailand income, I received a tax credit for what I paid in Thailand. Since the Thailand tax rate was higher than the US tax rate, I had to pay a negative tax to the US, but of course, the US would not refund this amount. Instead, I had a tax credit which I could use in future years, but this had to be applied to foreign income, not US income. So for example, I paid $37,000 in taxes to Thailand. In the US, I should pay $20,000 on that income, so I got a credit of $17,000 which I could apply to non-US income at some time in the future. (I think the credits expired in 7 years but I'm not sure.)
  10. I haven't found the Phuket Express article that says that they are legally married. (Which is contrary to some Thai language TV reports and social media.) Could you post the link please? Thank you.
  11. I think that the severe reaction of many Thais to this has to do with his particulars, at least what they are seeing and reading. Incredible stuff on both on TV and Social Media. Since this is what Thais are seeing and reading, it's not surprising about their reaction.
  12. Quite a bit of time is being devoted to this story on the TV news, including a lot more background of this person. They have video of him driving a car, blocking an ambulance and giving the middle finger to the ambulance driver. Refused to let the ambulance pass. Also of him threatening someone with a sidearm on a different occasion. Also boasting of connections. Probably more unfavorable info will come out during the next few days. I don't think this incident is going to end up well for him.
  13. If you click on the buy link for ultramobile, it links to the sim purchase on Ebay. Note that it's sold by Mint Mobile, so I'm not sure that it will work with the international roaming we need in order to receive the SMS.
  14. I just received notice from Mint that they are canceling my International Roaming, forcing me to use their new (expensive and inconvenient) plan. So I will now purchase a plan from someone else and transfer my Mint phone number to the new carrier. Such a disappointment.

  16. Yes, Google Voice used to work with Citi's SMS system but no longer. That's why I now also have a real US phone number via Mint Mobile.
  17. I've had Google Voice for years but it won't work with many banks, such as mine (Citibank). For that reason, I signed up for MintMobile and have been using it for my banks.
  18. On occasion years ago, I would have really bad test results. Later on, I realized a correlation between my taking NSAIDs (Ibprofen) within a couple of days of the blood test. Once I noticed the correlation, I stopped taking them several days before a blood test was scheduled. After that, I've never had bad test levels. Before I found this out, I had 'next step' tests, such as ultrasound, and those results were good.
  19. I had this just tested, that is, having a bank send me a text message to my mintmobile US number while I'm in Thailand. All worked as usual. I hope it stays this way.
  20. I think this is just an option. I haven't experienced any change in my Mint Mobile in Thailand. Similarly, when I turn on my AIS phone when I'm outside of Thailand, I get a text saying that if I want to save money, I can buy this type of package. X baht for D days. If I don't buy the package, I still can use my AIS phone but I have to pay y baht per message, z baht per phone call, u baht per MB of data download.
  21. Did you try registering via desktop? No app needed. The downloading of Phone apps are often restricted by location. Sometimes a particular app has different versions, depending on location.
  22. Perhaps the people who could not activate the eSim while overseas did not buy the International Roaming package before they tried to activate the eSim.
  23. I did it ALL from Thailand. My last trip to the US was more than 5 years ago. I did it all from the internet, online. Bought the package, bought the $10 International Roaming credit. Installed the eSim on my Samsung S21 Ultra Plus 5G. eSim, as I mentioned previously. Then activated it while in Thailand. That's the process I used, successfully.
  24. I have an eSim from Mintmobile. I bought the plan for exactly the same reasons you did and have been using it whenever I need to reply to a US SMS code. I set it all up from Thailand, using the Internet. As soon as I bought the plan, I bought $10 of International Roaming to receive the texts here. I've had it about a year now, and it has worked flawlessly. I normally have the Mintmobile eSIM turned off. If I need to do a transaction with a US bank, I turn on the eSim and wait for the text, respond, and then turn the eSim off. My initial $10 International Roaming credit is now something close to the original $10. In other words, I've used very little of it. I definitely recommend Montmobile and its eSIM system.
  25. You might try searching on Agoda or Booking.com and then when you find a place which suits you, contact them directly.
