I opened with interactive brokers, when Ameritrade would not let me trade in Thailand. Interactive Brokers LLC (IB) is a U.S.-based brokerage firm.
I am the other American who has no felonies or misdemeders. I thought the other post was talking about my Brit and Aussie friends. Good luck.

5 yrs ago I opened mine online with Bangkok Bank New York. They also have a branch in London. Once I moved here I easily was able to open an account locally in Pattaya so I could transfer from Bangkok Bank NY to my local account.

Bullshit. Follow the law. Law says landlord or his agent files tm30. Agents want moñey but don't want to do anything for it. Thailand needs all these so called agents licensed and educated

You are being a selfish son. He wants to live like the rest of us. Have no desire to go back to our home Countries. I think it is very sad you could cut his income off. You don't understand, he doesn't care about spending all his money and dying in Thailand. Let him live his life and hopefully no one will do the same to you someday. Thailand is a very special place to retirees and we all accept the fact that we are going to die here. Let him have his money to live the rest of his life where wants. You say he has dementia, but I will bet he has not been diagnosed with it.

It has always been a mystery to me as Thailand has low unemployment...why they would not promote using farangs who would like to volunteer...just to feel good and useful...no reward needed...
Actually, many things Thais insist upon defy logic...????
Western ideas and philosophy will still come out even if it is volunteer work. That's the main reason. We we're all told when we came here that we are visitor's and to not change Thai Tradition . I still accept that.

Email.
I did the same. I contacted SS in Manila by email and asked if it were true that any US bank can now do a direct deposit to any Thail Bank. I received an email response in two days that verified that an agreement has been made and it is now in effect. This is great for immigration and I am sure they had something to do with this along with US Embassy and Government SS and Veterans Departments. All for now if Thai Banks won't verify a very simple form. See my other response to jlwilliamsjr18.

I'm a US citizen and recently contacted the Manila Social Security Office to get information on new Direct Deposit rules. I was happy to find out that I can set up D.Deposit with my main Thai Bank (SCB) so that I can use my ATM. Manila even sent the form. I filled it out, got a van to BKK from Hua Hin, and went to my bank. A nice lady took my paperwork and studied it carefully, ask some questions and said her boss would sign it as the bank official in a few minutes. Then she got a phone call and the boss told her he was refusing to sign it. I don't know why he refused and even refused to talk to me in person. The nice lady at the desk was embarrassed and apologized. It would be nice to have an ATM card, instead of having to go into (25K x 2) my bank every month.
Any thoughts?
I do wonder if Bangkok Bang (New York) will now issue ATM cards for S.S account holders.
Same thing happened to me at Krungsri Bank. Nobody knows who the officer's are that can sign this form. I argued the point that this is every Thai banks chance to get into the direct deposit money with the U.S. Social Security and also Veteran's direct deposits. That could mean a lot of money coming into the bank over a years period, that now only comes into Bangkok Bank NY. They didn't care. Just said, nobody can sign and told me to fill info out and send in. I told her I think that would be fraud on my part. Again she didn't care. Oh, the mentality. I did a little background on Krungsri, basically the new name for the Ayudhya Bank, now 77% owned by MUFG Bank in Japan. The M stands for Mitsubishi. MUFG, I find has many strong ties to U.S. Banks and many branches of it's own currently in many States. You would think if you connect all the dots, the Thai named bank Krungsri would be smart enough to capitalize on this new rule. The longer I m here, the more I see 3rd world country.

My Thai wife feels the same way. Always has. I will respect her opinion, not the clowns on this site.

After 4 years living in Pattaya and using My Bank in U.S. with a domestic deposit to Bangkok Bank New York. then deposited to my local Bangkok bank, I am now using Transferwise. The reason I changed was that I am moving to Bangsary and the most convenient bank is Krungsri. I always thought that the way I was doing was the easiest and cheapest. Now I come to find out that Transferwise is very easy to use and to my suprise, cheaper than what I have been doing. So today was a win win.

What he said....
Exactly my situation. I started with direct deposits to Bangkok bank of New York, but had to go to bank for withdraws to put into my Bangkok Bank Checking account. The direct deposit account cannot be used for paying bills and cannot used online. So I started using the ATM and deposited funds into deposit machines outside of Bank. All for not now.

So, if I continue to withdraw 65000 baht from my US Bank account by use of Bangkok ATM machine and then deposit that money to my Bangkok bank checking account, I am Ok if Bangkok Bank certifies those deposits each month. Correct?

You will not jeopardize your extension of stay when buying a condo or more than one. It is an old wife's tale . Lots of foreigners on an extension of stay bought their own condo (s) and or rent it (them) out. Buying it on both your own and your wife's name is possible too. Why the Thai company route is beyond me, it is making things much more complicated IMHO.
Thanks for the info Helps me a lot. I often see condos deeded in Thai Companies. I just assumed they could only be bought the same way they are owned. That was the only reason for the Thai company interest I had. thanks again.

Thank you for the info. Just one more question since that is good news. Can that Thai Company then purchase more than one condo. I want to be able to leave my Thai wife something when my time is up. I would like to create a Thai Company with her the 51% holder. Purchase 3 condos to rent out over the next 7 to 10 years. She will be able to live off those later on. Are there any restrictions that prevent me from doing this since I am on a Retirement Extension. I am 70 and she is 47 and I am just trying to take care of her since I have pretty good retirement income coming in each month, but very little cash to buy her a house at this time. A lot of people think I am crazy, but you know that is my wish. Thanks again.
I was always being told not to do anything of value while on Retirement Extension or O visa. I am just trying to figure out how to leave her something, but don't want to jeopardize my Extension or Visa.

I recently married Thai woman and want to take her back to US for visit only with my family. I am here on Retirement Extension and we plan to live in Thailand.
What do I need to do. I went online to US site as well as Thai sites and can't figure out the answer. Possible K-3 Visa. I don't know. It Seems awful expensive.

I have been on Retirement extension for about 2 years now. God forbid if I would have said retirement visa on this site. You guys are brutal.
Anyway, my question is: can I purchase a condo with my Thai Wife and myself as a Thai Company? Sorry If I posted in the wrong forum, but that is also very confusing on this site.

No big deal if it was a good looking female, Right?

When you start to worry about these things in a woman, it's time to move on.

My wife started out alright in her 40s , but in her 50s has become no kiss , no touch and reluctant to have sex . We have discussed my having a girlfriend for sex , but I'm sure if I did she'd be insanely jealous .
I have been in the same situation here. Very little emotion, most don't like sex or touching. Buying little gifts, or going out to eat doesn't work. Two things really work on Thai women. Som Tum and MONEY. The later works everytime.
Mine is always telling me to go out and have sex, and she means it. All she ask is that I don't have a relationship and to only go to a bar girl. So now I go to the store a lot more. Anything to please my honey.

I understand the need, but the questions asked are those what a scammer would ask. They could use any credit card or website you are on with all that info.
Should be a little more reasonable.
