  1. I was there that day. TM-30. One motorbike taxi guy was right in front. And I've seen others later. And I saw someone handing several passports over. I would have used the online system, but ran out of time to get a user approved with the right documents submitted.

I braved the queues one more time, but now I'm not doing it anymore. The agent brought me to a place where she could get the facade of immigration behind me in the photo of me. Apparently it was important to prove I'd been there.

Oh you again LOL!  I can always count on you to offer nothing to a thread except your inflammatory comments.

First of all, there was no indication from anyone on this forum or elsewhere that he was, in fact, retired.  His Google page showed patient feedback from only one month ago, and his business phone is still connected.

So, just how would I know he was retired until I finally reached him on the phone today after four days of leaving messages, and why would I owe him an apology for calling?

Your comment was unhelpful and obviously designed to bait me into a heated exchange, like you've often done in the past.  I've never understood the perverse pleasure you seem to get from such behavior, but if that's your thing I hope my reply makes you happy ????

Leave a comment on his Google POI about him retiring.

iHerb are virtual genuises when it comes to avoiding customs duties and clearly are familiar with Thai regs and practices. . If you try to order more than isl ikley to  go through it triggers an error message.

When I got that far, the time they quoted as my shipment arriving was too close to when I leave. I should have ordered before.

Keep you total purchase under $46 and there are no duties.  Yeah, you'll have to make multiple orders but you'll save money.

I am more than halfway through a bottle costing 39 dollars from iHerb, and expect to go through it before I go home. Shipping 11.59$.

Would I trip the customs monster? I have searched Lazada and Shopee in vain.

Even if it worked, there would still be the issue of the SIM never being on a network. Even if you called AIS, they might just give you the USSD code to apply...which you couldn't. The only possibility would be if they agreed to add it from their end and without the SIM being connected to their network.

As I stated earlier, try a vendor on-line and see if they they conduct the registration via videocall without you being present. It all seems a bit unlikely.

If you properly outlined the whys and wherefores, there might have been a different solution.

Either way, I given my advice. Let us know how it went.

I activated the SIM on another device. All I needed was the bar code and number. It took time before I got it approved, though. I never did get a text to my other number that it had been activated, so it took even longer. The 20 Mbps package would only have worked if the Lazada seller had activated it, so they gave me a reseller code for 10 Mbps. The problem was that they had sent a piece of paper warning about that, ONLY in Thai. I should have done a Google Lens on that, but didn't. So I have to live with 10 Mbps, which actually is enough. I just wanted to try 20 Mbps.

  6. They claim it will work from anywhere in the world: https://www.ais.th/4g/vowifi/en/

Unlike most networks where it only works in the network's home country.

I've got it enabled on my phone (different network), and as soon as I turn on wifi, the network identifier at top left changes to «(network name) WiFi VoWiFi». The last word in white background. And I'm on a sub provider, and it changes to the host network name.

I've never gotten my home SIM to work with VoWiFi in Thailand before. I've had an enabled phone with me the last two times.

I haven't checked AIS. I've had the SIM in a phone that doesn't do VoWiFi. Might test it before going home this time. Most likely you need to be connected to the network when enabling VoWiFi. Maybe even IN Thailand?

I thought of that.  The software quality of the web app speaks strongly against there being a proper auto-approval system for this, i.e. actually automatically confirming the data... but then if I were a manager and I saw a flood of re-submissions for borked applications, and I didn't really have any ace developers on hand, I would probably say something like:

"If we already approved someone for this name and passport number, assume the new application is them correcting stuff they couldn't correct in the app, and just auto-approve it. If the data is still wrong deal with it later."

Still I find it calming to imagine I got some kind of concierge approval.  After all, humans answered my e-mails in real time, so anything is possible! ????

No. Some get instant approval the first time. Ie, no human checking.

Update: problem solved the low-tech way! TL;DR: just contact support and do a new application if you can't change the dates.

I spent way too much time trying to fix the problem, which in the end was a React web-app misconfiguration on their end.  I thought I had a hackaround but the config persisted on the server and there was just no way to enter a date more than one day before/after the stored date.

So I e-mailed support and quickly got a reply.  They tried to edit the dates and ran into the same problem -- but, presumably because they know what to expect from government programmers, they told me to just do another application.

Which I did, using a different e-mail address.  And it was approved almost instantly, I'm pretty sure in under a minute, which I take to mean someone was actually sitting there expecting it to arrive.

Support Team was super helpful and I feel a little stupid for not just contacting them yesterday, but hackers gonna hack I guess.

Throughout this little trip down the web-app rabbit hole I kept wondering... there must be people out there who had dates to correct but didn't even try correcting them, because on the first day after that e-mail went out the system told them it was "rectified," right?  So they will be showing up at airports with approved but maybe invalid Thailand Passes, right?  And what happens then?

I hope the folks in the call center are as responsive as the online team was today, because I guess they're going to be getting some frantic calls from the check-in counters.

Your new application was auto approved, most likely. No human involvement. I used the same e-mail address when I applied again. It got auto approved immediately, again.

You can still check, but if you don’t want to bother, I understand. I’m interested in knowing if after getting the QR code, will the status change to something like “Approved”. My wife and daughter were approved, but when I check their status, it still says “Reviewing”.

If anyone can check this for me I’d greatly appreciate it.

Mine says approved. I think what you experience must be unusual. You shouldn't have gotten the QR-code until it was approved.

If you thought that you didn't need the SIM in the phone; then yes, you didn't know what you were doing..

You jumped to a conclusion and I had to figure how you could activate the SIM without having physical access to it. The only way I imagined is if a vendor or a friend in Thailand did it for you. But if they did, they could also apply the necessary code. Hence the questions.

Plus if you outlined the whole scenario, there might have been an alternative solution. Since you were resistant to that, I suggested that you communicate with a vendor online to see if they can help you.

You may be right, but the process outlined in the tab about using the app doesn't mention installing the SIM. What's needed is the bar code and number. I have seen shop assistants activate my SIM on their phone (November 2019), without installing the SIM. But I was physically present, as you have to blink to have your photo taken.

I was trying to be diplomatic.

Translation: You thought I didn't know what I was doing, and tried to not say it outright.

It should be easy to figure out if you have the app.

Dtac Call is wonderful that way. Pretty much anything you can do on the phone you can do on the app, but you have to activate the app IN Thailand. I've used that app a lot lately, goosing things along if I'm being ignored. Which can happen even if I forget to dumb down my vocabulary..

It would have been great if AIS made an AIS call app. Unless wifi calling works abroad.

There’s a thread running on this email. Someone said they contact the hotline and was told to ignore this email.

When I called the guy said nobody would check my birth date, then later it was removed. So forgive me if I don't trust support too much. I'll probably try the link myself tomorrow, and see what happens.

    This thread?

How they gonna record the move, you're only issued one boarding pass?? Also i'm sure they'd just tell you to sit in your assigned seat.....

I recommend documenting your seat with photos, which are time stamped. Do a video or two as well, and go from your seat to the row designation and get that on the video as well as stills.

It depends on the manufacturer? There is one British made LFT out there that has an overall sensitivity of 98% and specificity of 99%, whilst in the infectious range of CT<27, it’s almost 100% accurate? The problem with PCR is that it is generally run with a CT of 40, which means it will pick up infection long after you are infectious and possibly even weeks after you have recovered?

And I'm sure you've heard of the Covid positive pineapple and other foodstuffs one creative country in Africa sent in for tests?

Also, another issue regarding the pre-flight test: on the Uk Thai Embassy site it says "Please note that your test result must be in hard copy and in Thai or English language only." (note 14 under "Registration and Approval Process", link below). Why does it have to be hard copy? Most labs send the result by email; the last thing you need when rushing round to get away is having to fart around looking for a printer. Does anyone know if this nonsense is being strictly enforced? And if you are leaving from France, Germany etc. does it still have to be in Thai or English only?

    https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/requirements-for-foreigners-travelling-to-thailand-during-covid-19-tra?page=5d6636cd15e39c3bd00072dd&menu=5f4b6eb3f6ae4b236972c562

I checked two airlines. Qatar requires submission of copy of the test results. KLM requires hard copy.

So yes, and you need printouts of EVERYTHING! Preferably multiple sets, in case your airline keeps the copy.

Re: Thailand Pass Dates 1 day Prior to that Applied for:

There have been several reports of a glitch in the Thailand Pass system that result in the arrival date (and potentially other dates) showing as 1 day prior to the date the applicant entered on their application. Some people have called the 'hotline' and been told their pass is valid for 72 hours from that arrival date on the pass so 'they'll be fine'.  Indeed, that information seems to have been passed on to the airlines:

There are three options for entering under the Thailand Pass registration:

    • Exemption from quarantine - if arriving from Test and Go countries only
    • Sandbox programme - travellers from any country
    • Alternative quarantine - travellers from any country

Your Thailand Pass will be valid for 72 hours from the date of arrival stated on the QR Code.

    https://www.etihad.com/en-gb/travel-updates/all-destinations-travel-guides

However if you are unlucky enough to have this problem you should scan the QR code on your pass and check all the other dates.  My friend's dates were all wrong, arrival, date of birth and vaccination dates - all 1 day out.  The airlines may scan your pass and see that information.

I can't see them being too concerned about your vaccination dates but your date of birth being wrong may cause a problem - if they check.

Before thinking you have 72 hours so 'you'll be fine', I strongly recommend that if all your dates are wrong, you contact your airline and if they say it will be OK, get it in writing from them before you travel.

Remember that if you are refused boarding for this reason, you are likely to have to pay for a new flight - the airline will simply say, its your responsibility to make sure you have the correct documentation to travel to your destination.

Personally, I wouldn't take the risk - I wouldn't even try checking in if my dates were wrong or anything else required was not in order.

They have removed the birth date from the page the QR code links to, for just this reason.
