  1. Big mistake. Who else will offer anything that high? Only a handful of companies would be willing to spend something like that on snapchat, and he turned down the two who have the ability to make expensive acquisitions without worrying that it makes sense.

  2. I do not quite understand this whole name issue. Why don't you just use your 2 names in the sending end and then enter all your 3 names as the recipient of the money?

The sender and receiver do not even need to be the same person. I can wire money from my bank to Barack Obama, Arnold Schwartzenegger or whomever I want to, as long as i know their bank's SWIFT BIC code and account number. Your sending bank should not be concerned about the transfer as long as you are not laundring money or sending it to fund terrorism. Bangkok Bank, however, may be quite strict that the recipient's name on their incoming side is correct.

The OP is about an ACH transfer, not a wire transfer.

I did a trial deposit verification to link my Bangkok Bank account with the routing number of their New York branch to Union Bank, and was successful.

Then I tried doing an ACH transfer -- rejected.
  3. Sorry, I don't understand if the trial deposit worked then why the transfer didn't work, that is the purpose of trial deposits

I do transfers all the time to Bangkok Bank from my US Bank. Bangkok Bank uses my full middle name as shown on my passport, my US Bank only uses my middle initial, and not the full middle name and I have never had a problem

The two banks are dealing with numbers (accounts) not names

Something else is screwy. My fist guess is the Union Bank suddenly realized that the name of the bank you are transferring to is Bangkok Bank and they think that it is a foreign bank, despite the US routing number, so are not honoring your request for transfer

"The two banks are dealing with numbers (accounts) not names

Something else is screwy. My fist guess is the Union Bank suddenly realized that the name of the bank you are transferring to is Bangkok Bank and they think that it is a foreign bank, despite the US routing number, so are not honoring your request for transfer"

In theory that is correct but in practice, from recent personal experience, Bangkok Bank also require an account name that their system recognises.

Bangkok Bank is a foreign bank wherever it is located outside of Thailand. Why would a US bank have an issue with transferring funds to a foreign bank?

On that second issue, some banks may care if they know. BofA used to shut down accounts when people used the ACH method. Not sure if they still do. That's likely because they have to report when someone wires $10,000 out of the US or does a series close together of about that much. They also have to monitor for signs of money laundering now. Since the ACH system is US only they don't scruitinize it as much. In BofA's case, many people would have some amounts go through, but some others would get stopped. People who made issues of it seemed to have their accounts closed.

Here's an old thread that discussed it, though there was another one where many people talked about having their accounts closed:

  4. I don't think "public" is the distinction, but maybe that is it on the internet. Like they don't show kissing on tv programs.

But how would anyone have seen it? Something weird with that as I can point you to many racy Thai Facebook "people" or "musicians" with tens of thousands of followers. Maybe one of his girlfriend's friends or family reported it.

  5. Live fire exercises at 2 AM, shooting down an aircraft? Wouldn't it be unheard of to fire at a drone or anything along those lines at night, and along a commercial flight path?

Plus the diversion theory ignores the fact that the search was focused to the east for a good week or so, and not to the west. In fact there's a better case that the diversion would have been in focusing too long in the east.

  6. Best to add u.s.a after United states, better safe than sorry

Interesting. That's what I was going to post about. I always use USA as I assume it is easier to understand than United States of America, to anyone who doesn't read a lot of English. Like I can "read" that a number is a price because baht is only 3 characters.

  7. Worldwide drugs baron making only 5000 a week ? Either he wasn't such a big fish or his earnings have been grossly underestimated.

Can't believe anyone came up with a weekly estimate that low. It says right in the article that when caught, this guy had 3kg of cocaine, 1kg of heroin, €425,000 in cash, just in his Dutch flat. Even if that was his entire cash stash, which is extremely unlikely, that would have been over a year of savings, assuming no spending. The guy was clearly making a lot more that 5,000 pounds/week.

  8. ok, i tell you the story behind this pic:

at that time i was just taking the pic, because i liked the structure/pattern of the packages lined up.

now i´m using it for my book, so i should know what´s on it. smile.png

i thought it would be sweets of any kind, good idea to post the pic here...

    thx for the help.

If you're interested, there's a book, The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid, that has a case study related to the small packets of shampoo and other items. What happened is that the consumer products companies always assumed that very poor people just wanted cheap products. Cheap shampoo or detergent, or soap. Same with governments who want to hand out crappy stuff, but for free or subsidized in an attempt to help. Then someone figured out that they really are as aspirational and value conscious as everyone else. They wanted the better products, but couldn't afford large sizes. But will save up or splurge once in a while for the small packets of better products. For use on a special occasion or first date, or whatever. Better product at a size they can afford.

The book is focused on India and other areas with extreme poverty, but the concept translates. Also applies near college campuses.

  9. Why not charge him as an adult. They know exactly what they are doing at that age !

    Yup.

Nothing like locking up a 13 year old for life without parole, in the land of the free.

13 year old who shot his dad in the head with both a shot from the back and a contact shot to the temple. Then called in to the dad's work to say he was sick for a few days, and stayed in the home with the dead body.

The kid is not just misguided, he's go serious mental issues. Kid deserves his day in court. But if he's guilty and there's nothing to explain it other than he didn't want his dad to go talk to the cops about the graffiti incident, I'd have no issues with a lot of time in jail.

  10. Probably best to buy a quad band phone.  One that can do all the GSM frequencies 850, 900, 1800 and 1900.  That'll give the highest chance that you can at least use it as a phone, and send text messages, since most countries have a GSM provider and the networks even in the Americas are mixed.   3G and 4G is more dicey as you'll need to figure out which networks use what frequencies in the countries you are going to.

Higher end phones tend to have all 4 GSM bands, and cheaper ones may not.  Pay attention to the model number, as some phones are actually different depending on where you buy them.  The Galaxy SIII as an example, is a different model number if you buy it in the US from ATT (I-747), Tmobile (T-999), other countries (I-9300).  Slightly different specs on the network capabilities, particularly for 3G and 4G.

Galaxy "Pocket" seems to be used for several different models. S5300, S5301, S5302, S5310

    Though all seem to be GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, and 3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100.

  11. If external, get something USB connected. Either webcam with microphone, or USB headset. You can buy just a microphone that plugs into the sound card, but I don't recommend those as they seem to not be as good as USB versions. Frequently there's a hum or other interference that the other person will hear.

Webcam with mic should work just fine since you have speakers already. It does not have to be Skype Certified, or sold by Skype.

  12. If you can't find an authorized center and you're up for trying it yourself, my Dell (or actually 2) had overheating issued due to clogged fins in the cooling part. Instructions to disassemble were available on the Dell website, in the service manual. Once I saw the dis-assembly instructions, it was a quick job to take it apart and vacuum out the dust/lint. Didn't need to take the heat sink off the board to get to it, it was unscrew the fan, and then vacuum. I was replacing the motherboard so I did take the heat sink off, but could have just vacuumed out if it was just to fix the clogging. As a gaming laptop, I hope they made it easy to clean it out. If not, you'd know before taking it all the way apart.

If I'd just taken out every screw I could get to, I wouldn't have needed the manual. But was trying to leave some screws in. There were 2 or 3 screws that I didn't realize were important to take out. But was a piece of cake.

Some older laptops required pulling labels off to get to screws so they'd know it was opened, but they seem to not do that these days. Or at least Dell doesn't. It also used to be very hard to get the service manual, but they seem to have made those available now.

  13. Ok, very clear now, these guys have no clue what they are doing. Why give away the fact that there's people looking for these guys? How do you run special ops when there's people blabbing all of the place what's going on, for their own political purposes. Is the 3 months ultimatum to lull them into a false sense of security?

  14. This report appears in no credible mainstream media outlets anywhere in the world currently and it is over 24 hours old.

I would temper the jubilation until some solid credible media reports and verification come in.

I searched for the story myself. Seemed extremely unusual for any info to be released such as intercepting a cell phone call, particularly when everything is still ongoing. Why would anyone say how they figured out that someone was involved?

Also unusual to throw in a line like this:

This new information about the girls is said to be proof of a conspiracy to mislead the Nigerian public into believing that some of the girls had been sold into neighbouring countries.

Seems like someone has an agenda in getting the story out, whether true or not.

Official story is no Marines in the country. Could of course be a lie, but they are probably correct that the photo attached to the story about the US Marines assisting in the arrest is not from Nigeria.

  15. I just went in to Settings - mobile network, then I chose the option "data connection" to be OFF.

I'm,by the way, hooked up to my house WiFi with the phone.

We will see tomorrow if I still get these messages I have paid mobey for data transfer.

As far as I know a smart phone can not be connnected to both the wifi and data carrier.

It's either wifi or the data carrier,

That is basically correct for now, but the Galaxy S5 will do wifi and LTE at the same time - "Download Booster". Will not do 3G and wifi at the same time though as there's no speed benefit. I think it's a solution looking for a problem myself, but maybe we'll see more phones with it before there's a 5G network.

  16. Hope I don't get my arse handed to me but think Thai baht based on USD. It's the international currency standard, petrol too. BRICS counties are trying to wrestle this standard away and beginning yo trade in other currencies. Note: USD is pure fiat. It has no associated commodity to back it. My fear is US unending pumping of USD will tragically hurt Thailand as well as the more money in circulation the less value it has. The Creature From Jekyll Island is a great book for grasping the total absurdity of the modern banking cartel.

Don't wish to hand your ar*e to you but if it were based on the Almighty US Dollar the exchange rate with the Almighty US Dollar would not change. look to the Mid East for currancies linked to the Dollar due to oil being priced in said currancy.

Haha. So that's what my arse looks like! Love it. Yea, I lived in DXB before and dinar tied to dollar. I recall difference now. I stand corrected. For any who read my post, please accept my apologies. Dumbassness on stage.

Though not tied to, and not based on the dollar, the BOT does care about how fast the exchange rate changes.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/226070-perplexed/

This makes sense if you look at how much of Thailand's trade is denominated in US dollars. See the classifications "By Currency":

    http://www.bot.or.th/English/Statistics/EconomicAndFinancial/ExternalSector/Pages/StatInternationalTrade.aspx

Payments for imports and receipts for exports are both about 80% in US Dollars right now. However, there is a trend away from the US dollar since the late 1990's.

  17. Just the Pharma companies starting another scare to up profits.

The flu kills 250,000 to 500,000 every year. The 800 killed in 2002/03 from SARS is an insignificant number.

But the flu kills mostly the elderly and the weak.

    MERS is far more effective..

That's what they said about Ebola, SARS, Swine Flu etc. But they all fizzled out.

Ebola continues to kill people. Part of what keeps it in check is that it is so deadly, people can't travel far enough, fast enough to expose enough other people.

    Story from today.

  18. Forget about it if you are leaving the USA, all bags are X'rayed and opened by TSA so there is no guarantee that your laptop will be there upon arrival, and you cannot shrink wrap them

In fact if you lock your luggage with anything but an approved TSA lock your lock will be cut and your bag physically inspected before being loaded on to the plane

I would never put my laptop in my checked luggage even if they did not have these rules, too much theft from checked luggage and I sure don't want all my data to end up in the hands of a thief

If you want your laptop at your destination it is worth the small amount of trouble to hand carry it

Regarding wrapping in the US. There was actually a recent arrangement worked out where at least some companies will re-wrap if TSA inspects a bag. I can't recall where I saw it. Either on a news report or maybe advertised at a wrapping place at the airport my last trip. But this company mentions it on their website.

    https://www.securewrap.com/services.php?languageid=1

Note: Secure Wrap®’s USA operations offer complimentary re-wrapping of luggage if TSA removes plastic wrap for inspection.

  19. Strange, in US I've NEVER laid eyes on a Thai in public, outside of the numerous Thai restaurants where they work. I've often wondered where they are, Just seem to stick together and don't integrate into or even enjoy US society, which is very pleasant most places.

The biggest Thai community outside of Thailand is concentrated in/around the Los Angeles, California area, with an estimated 66% of all Thai Americans residing there. Los Angeles is often considered by many as Thailands 77th province (Thailand officially has 76 provinces), as it hosts the first and only Thai Town in Hollywood.

    Or.

Does Tiger Woods ring a bell?

    Halfbreed does not count.

Seems to count for Thai TV and commercials.

  20. Google Play Store. But it is a $24.99 app in the US. Appears pretty comprehensive, but if you look at the comments, it does a DRM check so you have to have a data connection to use it. Could be a problem for some users. Though the author responded with some reference to a possible workaround.

You didn't read it correctly, try again:

IMPORTANT: Our app uses Google Play Licensing, meaning your device must be on the internet for a few seconds, once every 15+ days.

Not really a war stopper or a major problem for most users

No, I read the comments just fine. First 3 mention the DRM was an issue for them. Since it was $25, I didn't read the description.
