  1. ‘Outbreak of law breaking by foreigners’, is surely an exaggeration if it involves less than 0.1% of the many thousands of foreign visitors in Thailand. Let’s see the offenders dealt with and deported, the vast majority of law abiding, respectful foreigners can support that.
  2. Reasonable response. The media attention and constant daily reminders can increase the stress felt. Unless this doctor has previous record of complaining (I’ve not read of any), there is no excuse for the ignorant comments here directed at her and Thai doctors generally.
  3. Would any person sitting on those steps reasonably believe there was a likelihood they would be kicked or pushed from behind?
  4. The media attention of this case and daily reminders may indeed bring stress. And as a doctor she can recognise such symptoms.
  5. Again people owning potentially dangerous dog breeds without caring about what these dogs can do.
  6. My wife’s Thai passport expired during Covid. To return from Australia to Thailand she got a Certificate from Thai Embassy Canberra and had to buy direct flight to Thailand to renew there. Flight back to Thailand no problem with that Cert and Thai passport renewal smooth and received next day (compared to Australia 6 weeks).
  7. Assuming you’re flying direct from Melbourne or Sydney to Thailand on Jetstar, should be fine. Going via another country (where 6 months min remaining on PP rule applies) probably no.
  8. On this route both airlines have been fine for me over the years. Not had a cancellation but if there is, at least plenty of daily flights on a competitive route. On routes with only one or two flights a day, not so good if flight cancelled.
  9. ‘Free market principles’ are fine when there is genuine competition, equal access to markets and airports. Oligopoly markets (often just Duopoly) are not competitive enough and don’t lead to the reasonable fares Thai customers are seeking at holiday times. AirAsia has a responsibility to look after customers better rather than overcharging.
  10. Behaving like that as a visitor to Thailand should result in prison and then deportation. It does not mean that other foreigners will behave that way.
  11. Try reading beyond the opening word. I have never said people should be deported just for being arrogant. But misbehaviour from a minority of foreigners in Thailand is not welcomed by Thai people. And a refusal to give a genuine apology does not help.
  12. Arrogant, entitled, misbehaving foreigners should be deported. The vast majority of normal, respectful, well behaved foreigners surely do not want to be associated with the alleged behaviour of this Swiss man.
  13. Yes, latest reports on Thai news suggest he gains donations from those who think it’s for elephant conservation, while he’s actually renting elephants from their owners. And charging tourists 2,500 baht entry. A nice little earner, if true!
  14. Over-entitled foreigner behaving in a totally unacceptable way. Ordinary locals probably couldn’t do much about it but this doctor could. Looks like he’s guilty and should be deported.
  15. Shamina made a bad decision but after a few days or weeks there with ISIS, did she show her regret and wish to get out in her emails to friends and family? If she did, some sympathy. But it seems she didn’t at all. If ISIS hadn’t been crushed, likely she would still be an active member. The right decision by UK courts.
  16. What a choice for Americans in the next election! One who’s old and unfit for the job of president and the other who’s old, ethically and morally unfit to be president at any time. A terrible example of democracy for the rest of the world.
  17. Fly directly into Chiang Mai and avoid BKK Suvarnabhumi congestion. Flights from KL, Singapore, Taipei, HK and mainland China daily to CNX. And with flights from Chiang Mai direct to Phuket, Krabi, U-Tapao (Pattaya) and Koh Samui, you don’t need to go to Bangkok.
  18. Suggest alcohol and drug testing before boarding for those showing ‘unusual’ behaviour. Staff and other passengers should not be subjected to the behaviour described here.
  19. Good news indeed. An example of helping our fellow human beings. Not a story for cynical comments at all.
  20. Unless you are a pilot or air traffic controller with a full understanding of the conditions, you are not in a position to say.
  21. Looks like yet another British male in Pattaya not making sensible choices.
  22. The evidence is being gathered, if clear enough he will be convicted and sentenced. Witness testimony and cctv evidence can together make that evidence strong and a guilty verdict result. But it is courts that do this, not those commenting who have little or no information.
  23. An alleged thief has been arrested, who happens to come from Israel. Now we see both anti Semetic and anti Palestinian posts here, which are not related to the news story. Please keep your prejudices to yourself. Editor, could you remove? Thanks.
  24. For many years China had a one-child policy, only recently abandoned. Selective abortion of females (and female infanticide), with a cultural preference for sons, has led a great population imbalance. Far more males than females in China, men who can’t find wives and still an obsession with having sons rather than daughters.
