  1. The same criminals did in France to kick out the king, the same criminals did in East German and Romania or when USA separate from England .

Always the people in power make the laws and so they are right in the letters of law.

After seizing power it changes. Every coup is legal if successful but illegal if fail.

The difference between ALL the examples you give and the current situation in Thailand is that the current government is ELECTED...did anyone in 18th century France elect the French king?? Or the Communist rulers in Eastern Europe? NO...Only Russia actually CHOSE Communism, on everyone else east of Germany it was IMPOSED.

You're obviously too fanatical to be convinced, but this is NOT a people's revolution!! For that you'd need the majority of the people to want to topple the government...sheer numbers show that this is not the case! Whether because of ignorance or bribes is irrelevant, what is relevant is that 6 out of 10 people in Thailand (not Bangkok, THAILAND) are NOT protesting on the streets...I lived through our revolution in Romania and the simple fact was that MOST people wanted a change because of the hardships and isolation imposed in the 80s. Thai society however is much more polarized...especially since when you want to topple a government you have to come up with clearly BETTER SOLUTIONS. In all the historical examples you give, that was the case...in the current case, what is "better"?? "New politics"? The Democrat Party? What is being tried here is not the replacement of a cruel, physically repressive regime with "people power", it would be the replacement of a corrupt regime with a different kind of corrupt regime...neither of which is ideal or worth fighting for!!!!!

  2. Or...you could buy a PDA or PDA-phone and install a good ebook reader, they will have excellent fonts, have read books for nearly 10 years like that...much cheaper than the Sony Reader, that's for sure. Plus, it can come with you anywhere.

  3. Anyway, like with all carrier tie-ins, it will take time and money to bring to Thailand...I don't understand it, if Google is so "open", why don't they just start launching unlocked, universally available devices? If HTC can manufacture so many Windows Mobile devices sold everywhere, why can't they also put Android on some of them? These awful carrier subsidies are nonsense for so many people that just want to buy the dam_n device!

  4. I don't see how FedEx is at all responsible for this...it sounds like a screwup on your agent's part or over the top anal retentiveness at US Customs.

Either way, FedEx are only asking you to pay for the services they've rendered. Also, the fact that you have to pay import tax here for having them sent back would seem to indicate that they've raised some flags somewhere...maybe your agent can get good rates because of a connection that he has/had, but which has now turned sour?

Seems to me like the agent should be able to provide more than just "Mai roo" as an explanation...

I've sent/received tons of packages through FedEx, never had a problem, but then again, I also never used an agent...

I paid Fedex to delivery a package to a guy in the US (not "try and maybe, possibly, if i'm lucky deliver the package"), i fail to see how this "service has been rendered" seeing as the package is now somewhere in the Thai customs system awaiting import tax, and not at said guy's address.

Like i said the items are in no way questionable, they are plain green t-shirts. If plain t-shirts "raise some flags" i don't think there is anything that wouldn't raise a flag.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that according to their Terms & Conditions they are not liable for the workings of various countries' customs departments, how could they be? Those guys change the rules practically every week and when you have a network that needs to cover hundreds of countries, there's no way you can guarantee that customs will let everything through every country.

Have you considered that your customer might have been hit with a significant import tax and simply declined to accept the delivery? A friend of mine bought 70 Euros worth of DVDs from Europe and Thai customs got him to pay another 50 Euros on delivery on top of that! He paid, but I would have probably just avoided accepting the delivery, it sucks when something ends up costing a lot more than you would have planned for...

And I'm not saying there's something wrong with your actual t-shirts, but maybe they had a problem with the quantity or something...in any case, I figure it is in no way in FedEx's best interest to go through a whole thing with customers and have to return their stuff rather than just deliver them.

  6. Yeah, with LCCs it just depends when you want to go, you must have chosen either sometime soon or a time when Hanoi is busy for whatever reason. Booking in advance I can still get ~3.500 Baht (all taxes included) fares to many AirAsia destinations.

  7. Rayong would fit the bill you described...beach is as nice as Samet, nice trees right on the beach, normally quite quiet...

Can you give any more specific places along the coast?

Is the water there ok? I've heard it's a bit dirty with all the factories around and that you need to get out further to sea (like samed) for the cleaner water. Really, no idea though.

In terms of the water quality, I can only speak of Laem Mae Phim beach, which is where the Novotel is, which is where I stayed...like I said, comparable with Samet and driving there the areas around looked quite nice, so basically I would recommend driving out from Rayong city center towards Laem Mae Phim and see what catches your fancy.

  8. Does being obese go along with being serious gourmands? I can't believe this much attention to haute-cuisine.

I think people are much more likely to become obese on Big Macs and Coke then on haute cuisine...heck, in most of these places the portions are small enough so as not to end up as a lump in your stomach, which is more then can be said for the average eatery.

  9. I would suggest going to www.kaspersky.com and downloading a trial version of their antivirus, in my experience it's been the most reliable in recent times, picking up viruses that other antivirus products didn't acknowledge at all.

As for how you got it (if you do have a virus), I would say through a USB drive. Most office computers in Thailand are crawling with USB-stick transmitted viruses and yeah, from the user's point of view, you do nothing wrong, all you have to do is plug in a drive and you're infected.
