It's a great idea as long as it is not restricted to the very wealthy (who would chose to stay in Singapore over Thailand anyway).

This is not a passport scheme...a visa or visa-WP.
Elite visa cost + $1 million investment for a work permit in Thailand or about double that amount for EU member passport, I wonder which one they will choose ????

That's exactly the opposite, rich Chinese seek second passports from countries that are not under Chinese influence, a European passport for them has much more value than a Thai passport.

I saw the whole thing on Thai TV. At least three attempted murder charges and definitely one for the motorcyclist she deliberately ran into the central reservation, causing a collision. And others for driving at police officers and pedestrians, albeit not at speed. I said to my wife right at the start that you could see this was going to go on and on and the police could've shot at the tyres. They had numerous chances as the car was stationary a lot of the time with officers standing next to it (one even climbed onto the roof, but she drove away again forcing him to scramble off - ludicrous actions by the police). As a result, it went on for a considerable amount of time and a lot of pain and damage could've been avoided. At least three police officers should be sacked for dereliction of duty . But TIT, and as stated above, a few wais later and a basket of Brand's essence for the police and all is well again.
If she was driving a Toyota Yaris I'm sure they wouldn't have hesitated at shooting of the tires.

If Thailand started treating ALL foreigners decently again, as they did before the coup against Thaksin, things might turn around. The virus is just the capper on a long sting of mistreatment and insults. They vulgar Chinese are not affected much by the mistreatment; they get it as home. But Western folks don't cotton to it.
But to put yourself in the hands of the Chinese. Wow, talk about a Faustian agenda!
The Chinese have no problem being mistreated by their totalitarian government that's true, but they would never accept such thing coming from a foreign people. This is what their government teaches them and that's why the Chinese government will demand apologies anytime a Chinese citizen gets "mistreated", weak cowardly governments generally cave in front of the Chinese bully and apologize.
Government of western nations generally couldn't care less if their own citizens are mistreated in a foreign country as long as it doesn't go too far.
The Chinese will generally corrupt a few important people at the top with a lot of money, which works well in societies where a few have all the power. One of the thing they will require is that Chinese citizen are treated well, not that the CCP cares about the well-being of Chinese citizens, but they are a symbol of China when abroad and therefore should be respected. They also want to make sure Chinese citizen will feel like ubermenschen and therefore never get the silly idea that they could learn something from other countries they are visiting.
Corrupt leaders in the hand of the China will spend a great deal of time to make their population believe that China is a great country that will bring economic prosperity to all, a lie.
Good recent quotes from the last British governor of Hong Kong:
“We should stop being fooled that somehow at the end of the all the kowtowing there’s this great pot of gold waiting for us. It’s always been an illusion,” Patten said.
“We keep on kidding ourselves that unless we do everything that China wants we will somehow miss out on great trading opportunities. It’s drivel.”- 5

And what happens if someone can't do the required 20? How about just talking to them and saying you have to wear a mask... like normal people would do
These people are already well aware that they are to wear a mask and they chose not to do so. Talking to them is useless.

The irony is that I've noticed more 'farang' wearing face masks than Thais in many areas (not that they really help or are necessary if you're not sick) and as free people, we should have the right to choose whether we wear one or not.
If he really thinks everyone should wear a mask he should then request a law to be passed and enforced (and don't forget to let foreigners know about it). After this foreigners are likely going to be wearing masks too.

I was really worried about all those tourists from Bhutan, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Fiji, Malta, Nauru, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu coughing all over the place. Feeling safer now.

No, it was eight years after she died and eight years after he decided not to bother renew his visa for that time.
I know that. In most countries, living legally there for a long time will generally earn you the right to stay there forever. Being married is usually a fast track to citizenship. But not in Thailand.
My wife could get citizenship in my country really easily and pretty much for free. Can I get Thai citizenship? Probably not and even if I'm lucky and qualify it will take years and cost me a lot of money. That said it seems to be the only way to not get kicked out if I were to become a widower so I will definitely take a closer look, tired of having no rights at all.

You can live legally in this country for 20+ years with your wife and you will get kicked out right after she dies. Nasty.

Raised in Thailand, fluent in Thai, married to Thai, father of Thai children, business in Thailand... how many years did it take him to get Thai nationality? (and how much did he have to spend?)
Sounds like the kind of guy who definitely deserved it.

Here’s another example of rampant corruption in the military. My friends brother was in the Army. He was frequently sent home by his commanding officer so the officer did not have to pay him. The commander kept this kids salary. Apparently schemes like this are common. I was. Dumbfounded this occurred so openly.
It is also not uncommon for Thais doing their military service to be working at the personal business of their commanding officer (say a gas station for example) instead of actually doing their military service, all this paid by the tax payer.

I've heard Porsche cars are even better to find out overstaying foreigners.
The department who orders the car will also get back an undisclosed percentage of the total amount spent on the cars (to be spent on catching more overstaying foreigners of course).

No need to quote the entire OP post. Singing the National and Royal Anthems and knowledge of spoken Thai are required, if you apply on the basis of permanent residence but not, if you apply on the basis of having a Thai spouse. The spoken Thai doesn't need to be excellent, if you apply on the basis of PR. You just need to be able to speak and understand to an intermediate level. Reading and writing is not required. Some people who applied on the basis of having a Thai spouse have got citizenship without being able to speak and understand more than a few words of Thai.
Very interesting infos you guys are giving out in this thread, maybe you should edit that in the first post somehow so the info is easily accessible for others?

No it is not correct. Things have changed plus some of the info was incorrect then.
This is the most recent list of requirements. Guidelines and documents required for application for Thai citizenship by naturalization
So that means it is now a requirement to renounce your previous nationality? No more dual nationality allowed?
edit : do you have a link to appendix A?

That's true as long as you have 3 years tax returns and qualify with enough points.
Is that link from 2004 still right on everything? : https://www.phuketgazette.net/issues-answers/asked/thai-citizenship-procedure

I remember reading on these forums that after being married for 3 years one was able apply for thai citizenship with no need for getting permanent residency first, is that true? And then how long does this citizenship application process currently last for those who have been married 3+ years?
Asking for someone else
(isn't there a post somewhere on this forum where you can get info on all the current visa options?)

The HI9813-5 cost me 8645THB (shipping included). It's less than the price advertised on their website.
That's a great price. How did you manage that?
Actually nothing at all, I just sent them an email saying that I wanted to buy the HI9813-5 and this is the price that they quoted me.

Hello All, I never ran into fungus when I was using plastic buckets, I was worried about the
drying out, so the drain holes were drilled 1" up, from the bottom, to retain moisture.
Even with my poor irrigation practices, I've dot dried a plant to death, have messed up fruit
formation yes.
How much was your Hana? I've been going to get a new one, mine's falling apart. I was
looking at the Blue Lab. I was told by the guy that got me into hydro her in LOS that it was
cheeper to buy Hana meters and tips/probes in the US and have them mailed here than
buy them here, especially if you shop O-L, that was 8 years ago, things may have changed?

Hello All.
I am interested in getting started in Hydroponics. This is a very interesting read. I am in the market for an EC meter. Is there anything in particular that I should look out for when making a purchase, or will any type be OK?
Check http://hannathai.com/
Hanna Instrument makes good stuff and you can buy from their Thai website (actually when I ordered their website was not working well so I actually made the transaction by email).
I use the HI9813-5.
rice555 : I run to waste too, but I am using a kind of moisture retention mat that keeps the water so well that I am a bit worried about Pythium.

I was not the one on the phone with them so I couldn't ask, but I think it might be because the product is not soluble enough or maybe because it can't stay in solution for long enough.
Thanks a lot for appliedchemthai.com it seems to be the most interesting website so far, I will try to contact them soon to know what they think of their products for hydroponic use.
-
Thaigreenagro say that their products are not for hydroponics.
However they do have both Trichoderma and Bacillus Subtilis.
They indicated that we can buy from them on lazada http://www.lazada.co.th/thaigreen-shop/ which is convenient.
Since it's not expensive I will give a try to one of those product in powder form and see what happens when it's mixed.

514 visas in 2 years, wow. Perfect product fit. We will see if the current modifications can improve things but that still doesn't sound like a future success.
This lunacy of focusing on high income tourists/expats has failed for years, it's maybe time they acknowledge this is just not going to happen.
