  1. I did get to see a couple old Wats via her motorbike. She took me to two that I forget the name of. I took several pics and will post them to the pic area over the next few days. I'll look up the name of the Wats so that I name the pics correctly.

Not sure if Dutchman is telling me to not ride on her motorbike or if he thinks I am a pu$$. :D

Will make sure to line up a car next time. No need to tempt fate. I always observe the people wherever I travel to. Way too many Thais with scars attributable to motorbike accidents. :o

  2. My apologies to Ken and Big Daddy. :D:D

My trip to Korat went as planned only concerning the dates. The airlines were kind enough to misplace my luggage for 8 days. I did not have the transportation I thought I would so I spent many relaxing days in a small house south of Korat with no air conditioning. :o

On top of that, my cellphone committed suicide so I was cut off from civilization for most of the time there.

The good news is since I had so much spare time, I was able to read my "Thai for Beginners" book a lot. I even learned to read enough letters that I can pick out certain small words now. I practiced on Thai license plates and business signs my last 3 days there. That was when I decided I would go ahead and ride on the back of my girlfriends little motorbike. She was scared to drive me because she thought I would be too heavy. This of course made me scared after watching how the motorbikes work there way through traffic. I wanted her 100% confident!!!!!!!!! :D:D

Anyway, somehow got home alive. I will make sure to arrange things better next time so that I can get out and about without relying on a motorbike.

  3. Hi Razor,

Actually the road is Yommarat. I found it on the internet for you but cannot find it on a map of Korat. Would probably help if I could read Thai. :o

I also found 2 references to UBC in Korat.

One is where I found the spelling of the road.

The other gave a phone number: 044267991

I also found that the Hua Pli Ya Di restaurant is on Yommarat Rd. I guess if someone can tell

you where this restaurant is, you can probably find the UBC from there.

  4. Here is a shot I took out of the 6th floor window of the hotel. I visited Korat for 2 days in December and stayed here with my girlfriend. Apparently the hotel was not too memorable, because I cannot recall the name of it. :D Or possibly my memory is fading away. :o

Maybe someone will recognize the view and identify the hotel?

  5. As an American, I feel it is my right to defend against "Dude's" stereotype. :D:D

Unfortunately, I agree with him for the most part. :o

While economically it is good/lucky to be born American, it does not make us better than anyone else.

But, most Americans have been brought up to think so. Same as most people have pride in the country they are from. The biggest difference is many Americans, mostly from the Northeast -New York City for example, will get in your face and tell you how much better they are than you. This tends to piss people off. Imagine that. :D

The family unit scenario Dude outlined is not far from the truth. I see it every day. My family would fall into that category easily. That is one of the reasons I am working on a plan to move to Thailand in the near future. While I like the money I can make in America, I have matured to the point where I value family more-so.

To sum up..... :D:D:D No one cultural style is best. A blending of styles is always the way to go. Everyone should have tolerance for things they may not understand. Just because someone acts differently than you does not make them wrong, just different.

  9. Good morning!!!! Although I guess it is evening in Thailand..........

Just wanted to say hello to the masses. :D

I visit Thailand 2-3 times per year and am planning on moving there permanently by Jan 2008.

I have read many good bits of advice over the last 2 months on this forum so decided to join and hopefully meet some of you during my travels. Will be in Korat from March 2nd through March 19th.

I made my first post in the Issan forum 2 days ago so I guess my ThaiVisa posting virginity is forever lost. :o

Thanks to all that provide the advice and service to this board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Sawatdee Guys and Gals,

I figured I would introduce myself and say hello. My name is Cliff. I am American and a young 41 years of age. :D

I have a girlfriend in Korat and am visiting there from March 3rd thru March 19th. I would like to meet some of you to learn the ins and outs of emigrating to Thailand. I can read info here and on the internet until I go blind, but prefer to hear it from the horse's mouth. So to speak. :o

I plan on moving to Korat permanently Anyone interested in sharing some info with me during this time? I'll buy the drinks. :D
