It's where the failed Jocky's Restaurant was.

I am led to believe it is the same owners as Steak & Co.

Aussues know BarBQ Brits don't. Not really true. Just a silly generalisation. It depends on who is doing it. Undoubtededly Aussis to more BBQ because off the weather but little by way of real food. South African Brie is far superior to Australian BBQ. I learned to BBQ in the 60s in the states and I soon learned NEVER to use that vile bottled barbecue smoky sauce that tastes of chemicals.  The Steak company has an excellent range of beef-good services and a very knowledgeable headwaiter. The quality of berfvdoes not depend on its country of origin but it's breed- what it'd been fed on- how it was butchered as well as how it was slaughtered and how long it was hung and it's age. The big fashion in Europe is now for 20 year old beef from parts of Spain and France.  It had a lot of taste. I like steak and I  love BBQ but deep-downknow it's crass cuisine. Fun yes- but shallow. Thus many Austalians' claim to have expertise in the area.

Meat always taste different in other parts of the world. Take Australian beef as an example. It has that wild game taste which I feel like Conan the Barbarian when eating. There is no way New Zealand lamb is the same cost as Pattaya raised goat, yet the Indian restaurants charge as if New Zealand lamb for "mutton" dishes. Shame on them. I thought Halal meat was restricted to fowl, not beef or lamb? Doesn't matter.

You were correct on the location of the Rasio Indian. I went last night in disguise and in addition to seeing said restaurant, I carefully noted the staff out back's behaviour and peeked into the kitchen, which was a mess. Along that hotel entrance I was also approached by two Uzbekistan hookers. To my shock, they spoke Hindu as well as some English. Asked for 2000.Baht prepaid right there on said street before coming to my room across the street at the Nova Platinum(where I said I was staying). I was shocked to learn Indian guys prepay such sums to ladies looking like these two, but I guess they figure it's "group sex" which means six or eight guys in the room. They weren't "stunners" by any stretch of one's imagination. Large boo-sums and large <deleted> and middle aged women. Shocking all of it. ps: Food at Indian Touch was good!

Mutton is mutton- Lamb is lamb and goat is goat. They are not swopped around and have different tasets and uses. Jamaicans curry goat more commonly than Indians. Lamb is used in delicate Indian dishes such as kebabs however mutton is thought to have a better taste for curries and needs longer cooking. Baby goat-Kid is the national dish of Portugal. It is now becoming fashion again in mainstream foodie culture just as brisket and beef check had become popular recently.

Some of the excellent Scandinavian TV series don't translate too well when remade in (US) English ('The Killing' is an example that was eventually cancelled in the US.

However, the exception certainly is 'The Bridge (US)', with excellent casting and the US/Mexico border setting in El Paso lends authenticity to the show's events.

Also just finished watching season 3 of 'Borgen', which I also recommend (watch the first two seasons first).

They are better in the original.

Might have a lot to do with the hard core of criminals and undesirables pitching tents in Thailand.

Maybe other countries don't have these requirements because there aren't as many of these types of "expats" living in there.

Let's see how long it takes Cambodia to introduce tighter criteria once all the losers who marvel at the lax immigration rules there start getting up to the tricks they used to get away with here

More hard core criminals go to Europe and the UK where they practise real crime. The crims who come to Thailand don't do much real crime at all. They relax ' party and holiday.

I'm from the UK and have similar feelings to those described by 'chiang mai'; my excitement about going home wears thin after a few days. The UK 'seems' better while I'm in Thailand but there's very little I miss. I sometimes miss fish and chips but when I go back and try them, that's that for another visit. I find myself missing the fresh food, the convenience and the weather of Thailand.
My only question to the OP would be, why break ties? Enjoy the best of both worlds.

The  best fish and chips I found are in the tiny stall in LK Meto. The corner near Soi Buakao.

No thank you, no interest to have anything official with Thai. If I could I would have a yacht to live on and avoid this land. I am not interested by the people and their world, I just want cheap food and hot weather. I also don't want to give a deposit to rent anything anywhere, I just want to pay for a land monthly and leave whenever I want anywhere I want, so do you think that it can be possible to put a tiny house or bungalow on wheels ?

In case these people still do not understand the chance they have to have foreigners spending their money here I will move somewhere else with my house on wheels.

You are in the wrong place for so many reasons! Go back to where you came from.

Interesting that many Brits are heading back home, many having now made a profit on their Baht assets as a result of Brexit. Have to wonder what their original objective was, a cheap lifestyle perhaps.

They are not-many have not-Brexit is not an issue-You have listed incorrect observations from which you have extrapolated erroneous conclusions to confirm your own confirmation bias.

Bets, that nothing negative has happened to you as a result of the new government.  I could be wrong and you are not just another whinging pom.  I'm interested really since nothing negative has happened to me outside of reading Thai Visa in the past two years.  Since it takes many straws to break a camels back it should be easy for you to list ten things the new government has done to you on a daily basis that made life untenable for you.

Er I think you mean whining Ossie!

  10. As the experts have mentioned replacing departure card not big problem. I personally have started taking a cell snap each time I fly into los. I realize that will not serve as a departure card but I think it has info (number) that helps immigration to replace. Not sure about that

I too photo important docs including bank cards but in this instance as I didn't I am inclined to think I left it at the Passport desk or lost it in the airport. I'm not going to immigration to get one. I always carry spares to fill out on the plane but the spare will not have the immigration stamp and date on, which is however, of course stamped in my passport.

  11. Am I the only one who's noticed that the immigration officers at the airport don't staple the departure card to the passport's relevant page anymore?

At least that's what has happened at my last two arrivals in Suwa. I've almost lost the arrival card once, so now I staple it myself (last time I asked a counter clerk to do it for me at my bank when exchanging my euros).

    Is this a cost-saving measure? tongue.png

I think that is how I lost my arrival/departure card

  12. Last time I departed Thailand at the Aran/Poi Pet border I never had a departure card,I filled one out at the immigration counter.

Although my previous one wasn't lost it was retained by immigration a Suvarnabhumi airport as I was denied departing the country.

You were denied departing the country - could you clarify? You mean you were detained?

  13. I have a spare one which I can fill i here with me to submit at the airport as I will be leaving before my 90 day renewal. I would hope not to have a problem but I was trying to rationalise where it had gone and wondered if my new status/visa did not require the departure card and thus it had been retained at PP control.

  14. I'm on an extension based on retirement. I left Thailand for 12 days during the Songkran period. When I returned the passport/immigration officer took ages to process me. Now I have noticed although I filled in and submitted an arrival card I cant find the depart side of it. Is it possible it was not returned to me? My passport was stamped with my new arrival date. Because this is the first time I had arrived with my new non o visa and and retirement status I am unclear if I need the departure card. If I do, and I don't have it, is it a major problem? Its the first time in over 30 visits that I have lost my departure slip. Any insights, advice or suggestion would be gratefully accepted.

  15. The best burger I had was at the mam and pop place soi 21 so buakao.Real brisket not minced slops. It's speciality is pork ribs

I don't follow you. Burgers have ground (mince) meat by definition. Brisket? Huh?

A type of gourmet burger uses ground beef brisket. The taste is delicious. Try it.

    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/the-burger-bar-recipe.html

Thanks for your help. I could not bothered to explain and anyway the original burgers were sliced meat and not minced up left overs. Minced meat/burger beef/has always been, whether on local butcher level or Mc D's industrial level, about reclaiming inedible meat stuffs including tumours, eyelids, teats, factory floor scrapings etc. So do me a favour jingthing please ignore my recommendations and eat the shut you know about.
  16. Yes, Centara Corporation offers good buffets, but rips you off on water, because they can.

An opposite of Centara Corp. is Everest Indian restaurant, where I dined again this evening.

Everest is a mom 'n' pop Indian, hidden down a side soi (soi 10 on the dark side of Second Road).

So nobody goes there, tho the Scandinavian restaurant next door is crowded every evening.

It's a strange scene. Two small restaurants, side-by-side, on a side soi; one crowded with convivial Northern Europeans; the other empty, tho open and welcoming. It's like this every evening.

It was an easy choice for me. I like Indian much more than Danish (food that is).

I can relate to my tablet much better than I can chat with foreigners; Everest's Wifi is excellent.

So is the food! IMHO the Indian mom here can really cook well.

I would like to nominate her as the up 'n' coming Mrs. Balbir of Pattaya.

I've become addicted to her Kadhai Chicken (200) and her Daal Makhani (140). What a Combo!

But this Sunday evening I was again the only customer. My emotions were mixed.

The flavors were heavenly. It was quiet at one of the four tables inside as I dined.

But I couldn't help notice the crowd outside next door, yet again, as always.

I feel sorry for the Indian mom who can cook well, but has a most unfortunate location.

May I appeal to those few of you who might like to save a starving Indian restaurant, to spend just a littlle bit more in the Mom-n-Pops, spend just a little bit less in the Corporatocracy that threatens to rule us all.

Yes, that Friday buffet isnt bad but watch out for the water (local, plain, small bottle) which will set you back another 100B or so. That's simply a rip-off and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Haven't yet tried the Saturday one.

It's only the British who have the Indian curry addiction but we like to eat it late and our Thai girls hate Indian food.
