  1. I dealt with Thailand Elite directly. I have only good to say about them. Very responsive, courteous and quick to process my application. Not a scam at all if you're dealing with the principals.

I fear you may have been the victim of an unscrupulous individual. Any money you pay to Thailand Elite should have gone to one of the two following accounts (the last four digits of each account number have been redacted).

    • Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, Nana Branch, Sukhumvit, Account Number: 800-0-0000X-XXX for USD transfers
    • Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, Empire Tower Branch, Sathorn, Account Number:  170-0-127XXX-X for Thai Baht transfers

I suggest calling their call centre on 02-352-3000. It's open 24 hours, but it's better to call during business hours.

  2. A number of years ago I successfully procured 3 visitor visas for my ex-girlfriend, despite her having no employment, not much money in her bank account and no reason for her to come back to Thailand. The key factor, I believe, is to supply sufficient documentary evidence (photos, shared trips, etc) to demonstrate to the ECO that the relationship is a genuine relationship and also to show that you have sufficient income or funds to cover the cost of her stay so that there will be no recourse to public funds. The genuine nature of the relationship provides the incentive to return to Thailand in order to ensure that future visas are not imperilled. Her first visa was for a length of stay of 16 weeks and she was given a full six months. She made sure to leave at the end of 16 weeks, which I think certainly helped with the later applications as it established credibility.

I believe the problem in this application was the contradiction between the interview and the paper application which introduced an element of doubt as to the true motives of the applicant. Any such doubt is lethal to a visa application. The ECO must be satisfied you're telling the truth. As another poster stated, it is important to anticipate a phone call or interview and be prepared to answer the questions appropriately. My ex was questioned at immigration as well regarding her intentions - we'd prepared her for both of these eventualities and she sailed through no problem.

  3. Given the above report, I plan to make a quick in and out trip tomorrow. The two alternatives I have are flying to Phnom Penh via Suvarnabhumi or doing a quick Bangkok-Poipet border run so that I don't run the risk of a one-day-overstay stamp.

Is there any recent info on the viability of a border run via Poipet? While the two options take roughly the same amount of time (given check in times at the airport and such like), the Poipet land border run is the much cheaper option (about 1/4 of the price). I assume the visa waiver option at the land border is exactly the same as at Suvarnabhumi, just 15 days as opposed to 30 days.

Any reason I should not be taking the land border option?

  4. I have a somewhat curious issue that hopefully someone with first hand experience can shed some light on. I currently have a non-B visa, issued in Thailand (I originally entered Thailand on a Visa Waiver), and a work permit, both expiring this Sunday 19 March, Today I went to Chamchuri Square to cancel the work visa. They put a stamp in my passport voiding the visa extension. It is labelled with the date of voiding (today) and a note that I must leave the country by Sunday the 19th.

Simultaneously, I have purchased the Thailand Elite 5 year visa, which is not yet entered into my passport. The Thailand Elite folk have informed me that since I originally entered Thailand on a visa waiver, I don't need to leave the country in order to get the Elite visa in my passport. However, I will now need a 7 day extension, as I am scheduled to get the Elite visa at Chaeng Wattana on Wednesday 22 March.

The conundrum is that the earliest I can go to get the 7 day extension is on Monday the 20th, technically one day after my cancelled extension requires me to leave Thailand. The folk at Chamchuri Square told me that it's not a problem, since Sunday being a holiday, Immigration won't consider coming on the 20th for the extension to be an overstay. Apparently, an overstay of even one day will jeopardize my Elite visa. According to Thailand Elite, they had one customer who had a one day overstay and Chaeng Wattana refused to issue the Elite visa.

So, I'm interested in hearing any reports from someone who has had a non-B expire on a weekend and then successfully had a 7 day extension applied on the Monday with no overstay penalty (I don't care about the money - I care about not getting my Elite visa because of the overstay). My other possible (as well as inconvenient and expensive) option is to fly in an out of the country on Sunday, which given the current enforcement climate, I'd probably need to buy a BKK - SGN return and then a one way BKK --> somewhere just in case I get asked for my return ticket on entry to Thailand.

So, what's the consensus? Stay and just go to Chaeng Wattana on Monday morning for the 7 day extension, or fly in and out on Sunday?

  5. So this is not an not a non B visa then?

You have a valid non-b visa for about a minute until they stamped it used and stamped a 90 day permit to stay in your passport. You then a applied for and received a one year extension of stay until the 24th of this month.

As a follow up question, I'm really trying to see how I can gain more time. Packing up an entire condo in 7 days and shipping it overseas is challenging. So, either I can avail myself of the additional 90 day extension possibility, which may not be available in my case, or perhaps I can go out and come back in on a tourist visa, however then I am concerned about being denied entry after the see a back to back work permit and tourist visa.

You certainly will not get a 90 day extension.

Your extension of stay will not prevent you from getting a tourist visa and then entering the country. If you qualify for it you could even do a out/in trip to get a 30 day visa exempt entry and then extend it for a 30 days at immigration.

Thanks for the clarification. Everything was done by the company - I just handed them my passport and signed a few papers, so I wasn't entirely clued up on what was happening. Your explanation makes things clearer.
Regarding the tourist visa, is there an appreciable risk of denial of entry if I leave the country on the 25th and return the same day? I fear they'll see the expired extension of stay linked to the non-B and may ask questions. Leaving the country and coming back in is no problem for me (financially speaking). The value of the contents in my condo far exceeds any flight ticket....

  7. Hi all

I've been reading the forums and I'm looking for confirmation. I'm hoping someone knowledgeable can help.

My non-immigrant B visa and work permit expires next week Thursday 24 March. I will not be continuing working for the company after this.

It seems from things I have read that it if I leave and re-enter the Kingdom BEFORE the expiration of my non-immigrant B visa (say on Tuesday or Wednesday next week), then I will automatically get another 90 day extension of stay, even though the original visa expires on the 24th. This, I understand, would give me a fully legal 15 month stay.

Could someone please indicate to me if this understanding is correct?

    Thanks
