  1. Since Thaivisa.com is full of law firms trying to make money from gullible foreigners, my suggestion would be, find someone who has a similar situation as you, who used a lawyer or notary to draw up a will for them and who registered it with the night amphur.  Then use that document, changing information as needed, make a few copies, go to the amphurs office and get them stamped.  Simple, easy and cheap.

  2. Thank you for all the info.  Looks like it is doable, which is good to hear.  It was just one of those things, on my mind, while making the final decision to stay here.  I have been here for about 16 years, but this is the first time, I have actually asked and received some answers to this question.

In my past dealings with Government officals in this Country, I have found that the attitude of the person applying, makes a big difference sometimes.  Respect, Politeness and a Smile, seem to go a long ways.

    Thanks again.  Cheers.

  3. Savannakhet , Laos with the same paperwork and no need for your wife to be there. There is nowhere else.

If you have 400,000 Bht in a Thai bank or a provable income of 40,000 Bht /month you could apply for an extension of stay based on marriage from immigration.

An extension of stay provides a one year renewable stay and ends the need for border runs every 90 days.

How much money will I have to show in Sawannakhet? Just want to make sure I am prepared property. Thanks for the info on one year extension, too. That might be an option by then.

    • No money required in Savannakhet.
    • You can also get a multiple entry non 'O' from Penang, Malaysia, but you would need to show a minimum of 100K baht in the bank.

That's great! Main thing is, that I don't have to fly back to Canada to get the visa. I see Sawanakhet is way over on the Eastern border, so a flight to Penang might be a better option, from Chiang Mai. Great to have some options and again, thanks for all the advise

  5. Hi guys and gals,

For the past 12 years, I have been getting one year, non-immigrant type O, multiple entry visas, in Canada, because I have returned

to Canada every year. I plan on staying in SE Asia (mostly Thailand) for the next few years, without returning to Canada. Where

do I have to go to get the same visa, if not from my home country? What do I need for documentation (based on marriage), cash on

hand, etc.? Does my wife have to come with me, when I get my new visa?

Here in Canada, I never had to show money and they give me a new visa every year, by just showing our marriage certificate, a copy

of my wife's ID card and Tabien Baan, signed by her and my passport. Showing money is no problem, I just need to know how much?

My physical health is starting to prevent me from living in Canada, so I need to look at my options. My wife is Thai, so looks

like we will be living in Thailand, if I can get the proper visas.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Cheers

    Kurt

  6. I have been going back and forth between Canada and Thailand, for about 15 years now. Every year, I always get my 1 year multiple entry Type O visa, in Vancouver, by just showing my marriage certificate of my Thai wife and a copy of her Tabien Baan.

Thing is, I want to spend the next two years in Thailand, without returning home and was wondering, if i can get the same visa somewhere else, like Kuala Lamphur? I am also interested what I would have to bring for documents and cash in order to get it?

Canada is a long flight away and i would love to skip it for a few years, if I can, but I like crossing be border every three months, so I would like to keep getting the Non-IMM Type O one year visa. Any suggestions?

  7. Hello.

I am returning to Canada soon and would be willing to sell some Thai Baht for Canadian dollars. I will pay an extra 1/2 Baht, above posted Bangkok Bank exchange rate that day. I found it's hard to get Banks to sell Canadian dollars.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get Thai Baht changed to CAD? Any experience with money transfers through banks from Thailand to Canada?

    Any advise would be appreciated.

    Cheers

  8. Hi guys,

I have a Zincano Artic, electic pressure washer for the second year now (110 model) and I am quite happy with it. I usually don't even bother with soap, but it takes of the green and everything else, off my cement landing, with no problem at all.

    I do have one question....

Does it have any place to add oil or lube it? (I guess I should have thought of that earlier, but I am not the brightest, when it comes to machinery)

One would think, that there would be some moving parts, that need to be oiled, to stop them from wear?

  9. "It's not only local politicians but government officials and state enterprise officials also want to live a luxurious life without shame and the guilty should go into private business. Do not be politicians or bureaucrats because they are just a disgrace to the institution."

Go into private business??? How about GO TO JAIL, eat sticky rice and drink water for a few years and have all the assets seized from them and their families? Sounds more fair to me. Then give those assets to the people the money was stolen from. (like the poor, during the flood in Chiang Mai, some years back, where they got none, or only a fraction of the flood money and the village head got richer. I am talking about the guy next to Gym Kanna Golf Course)

That was so pathetic, stealing money from people, who lost everything in that flood. xsick.gif.pagespeed.ic.tVTSNn-2vr.png

  10. the problem is that a lot of these students simply get their degree then refuse to take up any work offered to them because they think it is below their qualifications, what a joke. They also learn from their parents that if you dont want pay for something you dont or just try to avoid it as much as possible. I know a lot of thais that have borrowed money and simply refuse to repay it, to top it off they dont care who knows and figure if they avoid it long enough they the people they owe money to will simply stop trying to get it.

As for aiming this at the poor, my wife came from a very poor family, she got the loan and a good education(and a good job) then she paid it back, the poor are the ones that actually do repay money, its the ones that have money or middle class that dont repay the loans. The poor see it as a godsend and pay it back with pride, the others with money dont give a sh*t.

but reducing student loans will hurt the poor. The rest of them can pay for the education, if needed. The poor can't, so this is aimed at keeping the poor uneducated

  11. How is increasing VAT tax supposed to help the poor???

Reducing income tax for the poor??? The poorest don't file tax returns now, so how would it benefit them? Three percent extra VAT, on the other hand, will make their life so much harder for them.

Oh well, I guess BIG BROTHER knows best. Hail BIG BROTHER and his infinite wisdom and generosity wai2.gif

  12. I have been advising friends for years, only to buy #1 Chanot and not to get involved with Nor Sor Sam (Nor Sor 3) or other lesser papers. Foreigners beware, if your spouse or friend buys land that is not #1 Chanot, you/her are much more vulneralbe. I don't think your Usufruct or 30 year lease, will be worth the paper it's written on, if it was land that encroached on the forest, which a lot of it is.

You must also remember, that the money cannot come from you (the foreigner) to buy land in Thailand, if your wife purchases them. You can lease the land from her for 30 years or in some justictions even get a lifetime Usufruct (lifetime right of use), but you cannot own it and the money to purchase it, cannot come from you. So if you choose to break the law, don't start whining about it later, when you get caught.

I am happy to see, that the military government is starting to nail some of these crooks. I would also like to see a property tax in Thailand, that applies to everyone except the poor, so the rich can't just keep piling up land, without paying any (or very little) taxes. wai2.gif

  13. I think that Khun Suthep and the other Anti-Demonstration leaders should get a metal for sticking their necks out and peacefully leading demonstrations for six month, even so fellow demonstrators kept getting attacked, injured and killed.

If it was not for Khun Suthep and all the faithful demonstrators out there, Thaksin would be back with full Amnesty and the would continue raping the Country. wai2.gif

Correct, without Suthep et al, the camel herder would have ended up with all charges dropped and forgotten, however I doubt if he has the necessary b_alls to ever step foot back on Thai soil in the near future - too many big guns pointing in his direction.

Not correct at all. The Amnesty Bill was blocked by the Senate and thrown out. Nothing to do with suthep at all.

    sorry to burst your bubble

But you are wrong big time

The Amnesty Bill was blocked by the Senate and sent back to the house of Reps

who could rule the act as law after 180 days had elapsed

that was stopped not by Suthep, he could not do this alone

It was the Thai people who protested

Sutheo was only a figure head

True. Thanks for clarifying that. Suthep also managed to keep the protests going for another six month, which was amazing and most people did not think he would succeed in doing what he accomplished.

He put his head and his a** on the line and accomplished what he wanted...

I know, there are a lot of people unhappy with the end result (I am not), but it does not take away from the amazing job Suthep and his team did.

By amazing job, I mean accomplishing what they tried to do, for the most part by peaceful means and always advocating non-violence, throughout the six months of protests.

    End result so far...

    1. Thaksins influence has shrunk a lot in Thailand

    2. The rice farmers are getting paid promptly

    3. The amnesty law got stopped

    4. It is now possible to have reforms before elections

What the military does with this, is not quite clear yet, but so far, things seem to be going good. The military so far....

    1. Got rid of the demonstrations from both sides

    2. Made money available to pay the rice farmers right away

    3. Got most people from both sides to show up, when summoned

    4. Got Suthep and some other people to court to face their charges

    5. Effectively shut down propaganda radio and TV stations from both sides

I think, they will need to rule with an "iron fist", for a while, to discourage any more insurrections and talk of splitting up this beautiful Nation. If they do a good job, people will be happy and most of them will go along with whatever happens, as long as they see some benefits for themselves.

Of course, you will see the "West", trying to undermine them and they will try to starve out Thailand economically, in order to get what they want. Only the rallying cry of Nationalism will hold things together now, I would think. It will unite Thai people against Nations that would do them harm, economically or otherwise.

I know, a lot of expats are unhappy that their playgrounds close early every night now, but that should not last too long. I have a feeling, that the curfew will be lifted soon. For the sake of Thai tourism, I am hoping that it will be real soon, because many tourists book quite a few months in advance and if they don't see Thailand as the best alternative, they might spend this winter somewhere else.

  14. These were trumped charges, and hopefully he and Abhisit will soon get their day in court and walk free, as for the insurrection I think he is guilty, but some how I think he will get of lightly.

As for the unlawful killing I can see a number of Red Shirt and PTP leaders including many of the Shinawatra's and Chalerm doing long time.

Yes, you are right, Basil, he is guilty of insurrection. This makes him a hero in my eyes. He stood up against Thaksin's powerful money machine and achieved what he aimed to achieve. I think, Probation, for the Insurrection charge, would be appropriate, since they can't really give him a medal of honor, without enraging the red hordes.

Amazing man, as I have always said. At his age, he had the energy to do all those marches, smiling all day, waving, spending long days at the demonstration sites, having to live with the fear of knowing that at any time he or his family could get killed. Like I said, a hero in my eyes. clap2.gifwai2.gif

  15. Well, it seems to me, that more people used to have a smile on their faces, before they ever heard of Thaksin and his family.

Since his "reign", many people lost their homes and lands, because they borrowed money, which he freely made available with no interest, for about three years and then principle and interest came due all at once, which of course most farmers didn't understand, when they borrowed the money...

Since his reign, many innocent people (men, women and children), were killed, because of his "War on Drugs", including a whole village of men, women and children...

Since his reign, People who used to grow hemp and created beautiful fabrics with the hemp, which was often their sole income, Thaksin wiped out all the hemp fields, in his war on drugs and took the income away from thousands of poor hemp farmers...

Since his reign, people where piled up in trucks and driven around, until most of them were dead...

Since his reign, profitable Thai enterprises were privatized, taking away income from the Country...

...and we haven't even touched on corruption yet, or the fact that he divided Thai People against each other.

So yes, I believe that many people were happier, before Thaksin came into power. wai2.gif
