Famous English Singer Sam Smith visits Samui Island
katatonic replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Same here, nor them. -
Climate normally, in the planet's history, changes gradually, over tens of thousands of years due to solar variation unless an event such as a meteorite strike should.happen and cause mass extinction. What we have now is a mass extinction event caused by the burning of colossal quantities of fossil fuels. If you really think that is untrue then you haven't really thought about it. Energy companies spent millions 'debunking' the obvious facts in. the 80's and 90's and unfortunately some stubborn people still refuse to accept the obvious. Grapes have always been grown in the south of England although it's much easier nowadays of course. The Dark Ages are so-called because of the lack of written records due to a breakdown of societal culture, not because it was dark.. There was a medieval warm period around 950-1200AD and mini-ice ages in human recorded history but none of these were. global, just localised and caused by sea current anomalies.

I applied for Sandbox on the evening of the 30th, thought I had made a hash of it so put in another application on the 2nd, so both over the holiday weekend. I got 2 QR codes yesterday late afternoon within 2 hours of each other. I did send a pleading email earlier in the day though, with all my docs attached.

I’ve never seen a Thai person reading a book
katatonic replied to Dave Dave's topic in General Topics
My experience too. My wife and both of her sisters read a lot. When we first met my wife had a reading room in her house lined with bookshelves. Mainly in Thai, but lots of foreign authors. She even had everything by Jeffrey Archer! And she had never met a farang. -
None of my documents, which all started off as PDF, were accepted by the system after changing to either JPG or JPEG. None of them could be opened on my MacBook either. It seems they are all protected from alteration in any way as they are official documents. I'm presuming they all have to be printed then scanned in JPEG/JPG first. I ended up taking photos of my computer screen and sending them to myself as I didn't have access to a printer at the time. Hopefully this will be accepted. I will of course print them all out before I fly.

I looked at other policies too, and Cigna seems cheap, but again no mention of asymptomatic cover. Also I don't know how much cover I need. I have a non-immigrant 'O' 90 day visa, single entry. I will arrive about the 25th of November, but not sure exactly and double jabbed but not fully vaccinated (no choice, so AQ, although I may well be fully vaxxed during the 10 days). I will be leaving again within 30 days though. My questions are: do I need insurance cover for the whole 90 days of my visa although I will only stay for about 30? Do I need separate policies for each trip? Or can I get a Thai-approved Covid-19 policy that will cover me for the whole period - Thailand, Malaysia and back to Thailand again?

Thailand's 'draconian' alcohol laws in the spotlight
katatonic replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It was to stop adults buying teenagers alcohol, or just shops ignoring the age limit law. -
Thanks! Yes, a lot of expats here are noticing the xenophobia now. The PM even made a speech warning people to stop it. Not much different from Hong Kong in '97, where I also was.

Yes, understandable. The authorities here are unbelievable, it's caused so many problems for yacht crew here. Can't travel, can't get crew in, can't get other jobs, not to mention the restrictions. I'm being investigated by immigration, with no timescale stated, for talking to a friend (he's also in trouble but he hasn't been paid for 7 months and can't leave) on a marina pontoon. We're allowed to walk around and go to the shops but not allowed to talk to anyone, which they seemed to make up as they went along. Could be months before I'm allowed to leave although my job finishes next week. The British Embassy are being very helpful but the authorities here are totally ignoring them.
