    OP again.

After about thirty minutes queueing, someone in one of the checking windows shouted out, "90 Day Reports!" So basically all those doing it can then queue jump. A recipe for arguments.

Why they can't just open a window just for 90 day reports I don't know. Or put a 90 day report queue number machine. Too easy.

Sri Racha Imm has a dedicated que number system for 90 day and it works well.

Unfortunately, the creatures who run the Visa extension part undo whatever goodwill is generated by their companion departments.  Had to make 4 trips last year at 1.5 hours driving per round trip.

The first accusation they made was that my insurance certificate was fake and she refused to look up the policy number in their database.  UGGGGG.  It was of course, the original certificate obtained from LMG.

The insurance agent had never heard of this before when I explained it.  He even spoke with the IO on the phone while I waited.  She wouldn't budge and thereby loose face.

The insurance agent did manage to save the day though.  The original document was on white paper.  He printed up a new, identical cert. on blue paper and that was accepted, however, that was just one of a few other equally silly issues.  Sad face.  555

The OP seems to have been on extension of stay from a non O-A.

That extension and non O-A cannot be "cancelled" in Thailand.

Sure it can become invalid if requirements not met.

Anyway bit of a smoke screen.

The OP clearly wanted to kill off his non O-A.

That is very common due to insurance requirements.

    He needs to exit Thailand.

    End of.

Thank you.  You've got it exactly right.  Was trying to kill the OA and re- enter Tland visa exempt and then apply for O type visa inside the country, Tland.

You said you planned to cross the border and come right back, so I assume you did not have any luggage with you. Wouldn't taking no luggage be a clear sign to immigration what your plan was so no need to ask?

You are correct but that doesn't account for the hundred or so others there doing a visa run, non of whom had luggage but had absolutely no problem exiting.

The decision by Thai immigration at the border was unexpected but, as others have suggested, probably to do with not wanting to provide a visa exemption after a long consecutive stay in Thailand.

If it is convenient to travel to Mae Sai or Ranong, I do not think you will have a problem doing a border bounce there for a visa exempt entry. Alternatively, maybe just do it by air. How do you fancy a short holiday somewhere like Saigon or Penang?

Thanks for your reply and I get your point but they never even asked if I intended on returning to Tland..

As you suggest, perhaps a visit to somewhere by air will fix this.

Might be as simple as that crossing being difficult.

Not so long ago there was a series of posts where chap was refused exit. Think it was that crossing.

He had overstay fine to pay and extensive history in Thailand on various visas.

I assume you had an extension from non O-A and killing  off the O-A to obtain a non O.

Think you were in wrong place at wrong time.

You would have had no issue at crossings such as Friendship bridge.

Take a mini vacation to Saigon.

    Flights ain't too bad.

Thanks Dr. Jack.  I've never had a issue with my OA or with Immigration, other than poor service @Sri Racha IO.  I'm slightly stunned by this because it seems so arbitrary.   Ugggg.

    Something is wrong here.

Did you have overstay fine to pay?

    Something not right.

You mention "visa run" meaning border bounce and reenter straight away visa exempt stamp 30 day stamp.

Did you use a visa run company?

OP be aware that you have another problem.

You mention intention to obtain non O .

There is current thread running with crackpot Jomtien immigration requiring 800k to be in the bank for 2 months to apply for non O retirement.

Of course the requirement is only needed to be in bank on day of application.

No fines and yes, the idea was that that I'd re-enter Tland, 10 minutes after exiting, Visa Exempt.  Have had the minimum 800k in the bank for 5+ years.  Actually, never less than 1 million.

I am pretty sure you can leave. But maybe you can't come in again the way you want.

So it seems the immigration officer did you a favor by telling you that before you left.

And after a couple of years in Thailand you should know that you shouldn't expect any logic. The regulations are the regulations. Don't think about why. There is no why.

Yes I can,,,,,,,,by air according to the IO.  I pushed back but she said "NO".

Find these reoccurring threads re fillable forms and blue v black pens ridiculous.

Either download form and spend a minute to fill in form.

And yes use Blue pen (just in case)

OR next time you visit immigration pick up hand full of each form.

    TM7, TM8, TM47 etc.

    Not difficult.

Most countries demand black ink on legal documents.  Just saying.

  9. Sick of me yet?  Haha.  I'd like to convert from my current Non Imm. OA Visa to Non Imm. O Visa.  As far as I can tell I need to use TM87 for this?  Is a TM86 required also?  Further, I'll provide copies of PP etc.  Has anyone got a list of specific requirements I need to fullfill and take to the Imm. office.  I'm a fairly dogged researcher but have found scant info on the net.

    Thanks to all.

Also, for retirement, Canadian and I'm 67 currently using 800K in bank.

     Non O-A requires insurance.

It's a visa valid for one year, however if you exit and reenter just prior to expiry you are stamped in for another 12 months so basically 2 years.

The other benefit is no funds required to be held in Thai bank.

    You then have 2 options.

Return to home country and obtain another non O-A.

OR obtain extension based on retirement.

That has exactly same financial requirements as extensions from a Non O ....BUT requires insurance UNLESS you do your extensions from the non O-A to based on marriage.

Most folk (not married) find non O retirement better option especially if don't return to home country every 2 years

Wow.  Lots of info.  Thank you.

I am on extension of Non-Imm "O". No marriage requirement. 90 day check-in, same as O-A.

My understanding is the only difference is O-A is applied for and collected abroad. "O" obtained here. And the insurance thang.

Thank you mikebike.  It's all good news.

  12. Uggg.  I'm currently on a Non Immigrant OA Visa.  Extension due in July.  I am wondering what the differences are between a O and a OA Visa.  Having trouble tracking down a good comparison of the two.  The insurance requirement seems to disappear with the O and I gather that being married to a Thai may come into the picture?  I'm not married.  I'm also under the impression that the O is only good for 90 days?

Need help with this please and thank you.

    Rubbish advice!

There are several people on here that have more knowledge on the Thai immigration rules than most of the immigration officials have.
Several have already given him exactly what is required.

Wasn't offering advice, just stating a fact.  Throughout the world documents are certified as "true copies" daily.  Who can do the certifying is solely a call that the requester makes, without exception.  I worked internationally in this field for 30 years.

Thank you for your prompt replay, I better explain: at immigration they asked me to fill up the TM30 and the (CERTIFIED TRUE COPY) of ID card of my girllfriend that own the house where I live and certified true copy of the House registration of her. The question is how can I certify true copy of these two documents?

The only folks that can answer your question work for Thai Immigration.  It's up to the requesting authority to tell you what is acceptable.
