  1. I will be seeking to secure a multiple entry Non-B in relation to a work permit, not a business enterprise.

The Thai Consulate HK website gives the impression that 'multiples entry visas' can only be obtained when associated with a business in Thailand.

Is it correct to say they do not allow the multiple entry option in relation to work permits?

If they do however, what is the cost in HKD?

  2. You apparently have an extension of stay based upon retirement you obtained at immigration not a visa.

You cannot change the reason for your extension to one based upon marriage until your current one expires. The only thing you can do now is leave the country and apply for a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage at a nearby embassy or consulate. Then you could apply for a work permit. And then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa apply for an extension based upon marriage.

I'm sorry Joe but I must disagree with you.

I changed from a retirement extension with 6 months left to run to a marriage extension. The retirement was cancelled and a new 12 month extension issued. Admittedly, the IMO was not keen as it causes them more work but I insisted (needed the funds to purchase a car). There is nothing in the 'book' that says it cannot be done, just the IMO could be reluctant to do it because of the extra work. JMHO.

Coincidently I did my 90 day at Khon Kaen Immigration this afternoon.

While being fast tracked through by the admin girl I enquired about my option in this regard.

She pretty much indicated the course of action would be similar to what Madgee has stated.

Having said that, this advise came from the Admin girl but did tally with the above.

Ok good advise. Clarity is taking shape

  4. Basically I am retired and as such currently utilise the appropriate visa.

However, I want to do something with my time and a teaching opportunity has be offered to me.

The school requires I get a work permit and keep things fully legit, and so I need to change my visa accordingly.

I still have 8 months to go on my retirement visa and so I was wondering if I can transfer (with all the right documents) my retirment visa to a marriage visa? I can then apply for a work permit.

To under take this I would visit the Savannakhet Immigration. I mention that because sometimes specific immigration offices look more kindly on some transactions. Maybe Savannakhet is one?

    Whats your advise?

  5. What do I need to get an extension of my retirement visa (paperwork) ?

It depends a bit on your office:

    Normally it is:

    - passport and copy

    - departure card and copy

    - pass photo

    - form tm7

    - income letter from embassy and or bankbook plus bank letter if you go for the money in the bank option or combo

    - proof of address, Jomtiem for instance will also want a copy of rental contract and ID-card and household registration of landlord

Regarding the bank book option and letter from the bank, what does the bank need to state in this letter?

  6. Hi Chaps,

Any recommendations for small resorts close to Roi Et? Something within a 5km radius of the town centre?

Something small, but tidy is fine.

Even one of the small 'love inn' type of place is ok, just as as long as its new.

    Thanks

  7. Has anyone purchases this band of seat cover?

    http://www.mocyc-coolseat.in.th

Does the fastening system work? I can imagine having to reposition the cover frequently with just velcro straps holding it in place.

How long did it last before falling apart?

Theoretically it would be a good all year round solution, but I doubt the quality at a price of THB900 (I have Honda Forza, so that's the price for a cover to fit that)

Are there proven better alternatives you guys have found?

    Cheers

  8. There's a fella here in Mahasarakham who makes really good burger patties, lean smoked bacon and even black pudding.

Smoked fish pie was his latest addition to the list.

All at a price of course, but it's good quality.

The main issue here in Mahasarakham regarding burgers is access to decent burger buns.

There is one new take away place offering 'UK Fair Ground Style Hot Dogs' last weekend as an all you can eat special. Was ok.

  9. Try this..

Have the goods addressed to a friend who lives in a more remote location of Thailand and address it to their Thai partner.

Customs target consignments addressed to foreigners with final destinations like BKK, Pattaya, Phuket etc.

Very unlikely a consignment will be picked out if it looks like a Thai recipient and up country.

Once received by the surrogate consignee they can send cheaply by EMS domestically to you.

Not totally risk free, but the customs donkeys only segregate the 'sure scam' opportunities at a glance usually.
