I didn't give any advice in my post. But i will give you one: There is a button to edit existing posts, so you don't have to post three in a row.

One reason why so many people find it hard to understand is that there are no "residency visas" in Thailand.

I replied to three separate posts, as each had different issues.

Obviously you are finding it hard to understand the difference between visa types; it will probably require pictures to get it across, but I'll try to explain it in text first.

+ A tourist is a person who visits a country for short term recreation; they intend to return to their country of domicile after a finite period. If the period away from home is more than a few weeks, its likely that they will visit two or more countries. They will obtain a tourist visa from the countries they visit, unless they are fortunate to be able to get visa free entries  AS A TOURIST.

+ A person that is not a tourist intends to stay in a country for work, education, retirement etc etc.  They have to obtain a visa that fits their requirements, but NONE of them are a TOURIST visa. They are effectively taking up RESIDENCE in the country and require a visa that suits their RESIDENCE status.

All of the people posting about the terrible things the Thais are doing to enforce visa requirements seem oblivious to the fact that their own countries are probably (unless you come from a real shit hole third world country) way way more restrictive in their visa entry requirements. I'm not defending the Thai junta or its section 44 rules, but they have the right to enforce their own laws on this.

Joe, at the Thai Consulate in Hull on Monday I was advised that there is now a limit of 6 visa exempt 30 day entries by air. I was also told that if an officer suspects that you are not actually a tourist and using the exemption other than its intended purpose - they have been instructed to refuse entry for any number of entries - just what I was told.

What you have been told is almost correct, but the 'limit' part is not entirely true, for as Ubonjoe ( the only near permanent and reliable source on this site) wrote that its not written anywhere. The part that is absolutely true is where you say: " that if an officer suspects that you are not actually a tourist and using the exemption other than its intended purpose - they have been instructed to refuse entry for any number of entries". One day the clowns that perpetuate nonsense on this web site will be kicked out.

I find it difficult to comprehend that there are still idiots out there being taken in by these scams. I receive about 20 spam mails per day from scammers and that`s where they belong in the junk mail box. After a week they self delete.

The scammers play on people`s greed and those that believe they will get something for nothing. This is why I have no sympathies for the fools that get reeled in by these con tricksters.

Just because they are as not as worldly-wise or scammer-aware as you does not make them idiots. From my past experiences in making life hard for scammers, some quite smart people fall for it.

Good luck. You are playing immigration Russian Roulette. I've heard of people being refused entry after 2 Visa On Arrivals. There is a limit on how many times you can get VOA per 12 months. So you are taking a high risk this time. You must also remember that any Thai immigration officer can deny you entry regardless your documents VOA or Tourist Visa. Its up to the individual officer and you can not appeal his or her decision.

    What total nonsense, misleading rubbish.

"Thailand is giving no more 'raw deals' than many other countries".  Oh no? What about the Philipines? Thailand could easily do what they do regarding marriage visas.

How many countries have people with retirement extensions doing this nonsense of reporting every ninety days?

How many countries send people on border hops all the time?

and finally, I will not live with anything I don't like if I can get away with it.

You really do not have a clue, do you? I talk about a half decent country and you talk about the Philippines. Exactly how many countries allow retirement visas in the developed world? Ninety day nonsense? How many countries ALLOW people to enter on visas and do short trips out of the country to renew them?

Blind Freddy will have worked out that the days of dodgy visas and regular visa runs are becoming a thing of the past (although money still talks of course). I am beginning to think that you might have to watch out for 'Big Joke' paying you a visit some time soon.

I am reading of tourists being rejected here on Thaivisa all the time, OK, we all know that in some cases the IOs are correct to reject some tourists, but neither you nor I know how many tourists deserve to be rejected and how many do not.

All I am saying is the under fifties who want to stay in Thailand long term are being given a raw deal.

Thailand is giving no more 'raw deals' than many other countries. I am unaware of any half decent country that lets people live there without an appropriate visa. Thailand was very laid back about it in the past.

Its a fact, so live with it.

Mate, feel free to post the proof of the Uzbec lady who got refused. She might be a 'real' tourist but the OI maybe had

an arguement with hubby and had a bad day. It is what it is.. no point discussing it. The IO will decide whats what. I have 7 years of TV never got refused anything so

I am not your 'mate'. You are again correct, there is no point in further discussion.

Spot on. I have a friend who travels on Visa exempt 8 times a year and has done so for the past 4 years with no issues. I travelled 6 times in one year and got asked loads of questions and told to get a visa or next tine I would t be allowed entry.

    Meanwhile he’s still travelling........

Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

What length of time (in a year, total) did you and he spend in Thailand? Do you spend significantly longer?

  9. The essence on proof is vested with the traveller. If the IO believes that there is an intent to remain in the country for longer than allowed or there is an intention to work, it is up to you to prove it to the IO's satisfaction.

It doesn't matter if its Thailand, the US, UK, Singapore or elsewhere. If they form a reasonable suspicion, then they won't let you in. Its becoming evident that they are tightening things up and more and more non-tourist entrants will be getting the bird.

They also have girls in Nigeria involved in all sorts of scams. The Nigerian mafia seems to be so powerful that they took over Sout Africa as well. Which might be the reason why South Africans are having a hard time in Thailand and many do not receive a visa in Thailand. Many get a stamp with another that they've got to come back to Johannesburg to apply for a new visa.

Some years ago (and post-apartheid) South Africa had a very effective police section that was making good progress in dealing with internet crime, unfortunately the politicians shut it down.........

Yes, 1 liter (volume not alc. content).

So a big bottle of wine and that's it.

Or 1 liter of high percentage spirit.

If you travel in a group:

never put stuff together in one bag.

The unhappy chap whom the bag is assigned too will be heavily fined (like 20k).

    Each to his own bag.

Duty free: every person with it's own individual receipt.

This story about receipts seems to be doing the rounds. What if you don't have (or why do you even need to have) a receipt?

  12. By now the penny should be dropping that it is not the number of visas or extensions; it is down to whether or not the immigration officer thinks your are taking the piss and you are not a genuine tourist.

Hint: A tourist is not someone that stays in Thailand for more than 6 months out of 12. They are an illegal immigrant.
