I'm at a loss though why previously anyone would be concerned about TW not showing as International.....far from me to state the obvious but you'd only need to pin the outbound transfer from your home account to any retirement visa application etc for previous 12 months to show alongside your Thai account details

As far as I'm aware, it hasn't happened yet, but the pessimists that frequent this forum have suggested that some IO's wouldn't accept your documents of foreign bank accounts as confirmation because they wouldn't understand them. I must say, those regular pessimists have been very quiet of late though.

Hi--just wanted to see if anyone could advise--i know that now TW allows when making a transfer to here in Thailand, the new drop down menu selection that reads something about making an international transfer in order to satisfy immigration.  so that is a nice addition--does anyone know if that resolves the issue of having the transfer, once it has arrived, show as an "international transfer"?

Second, i also read that one can contact TW by email (is this via their regular contact email or...?) and request that all your future transfers be tagged as international?

Third, thought I remembered, but may be incorrect, that there was an additional step, once logged into one's TW account that one could note something else in another menu somewhere within the account interface---is this correct, and if so, where and what to note?

As I understand it, the process is:

In your TW account, designate the Thai bank you want your money transferred to (either Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn Bank are your only options) as your primary account.

Then contact TW, either by phone or by email to request/confirm you want your transfer routed directly to your primary Thai account. (A single call is sufficient)

When actually completing the transfer request form ensure you have again highlighted both your primary bank account in that request and you have selected the 'transfer to Thailand' in the drop down box.

TW have confirmed they WILL route all transfers directly to your designated Thai account unless on the very rare occasion there is a technical issues that would prevent this. They (and the Bangkok Bank call centre international section) told me they have had discussions with those two Thai banks and, If this does happen, you can obtain a 'Credit Advice Receipt' to prove it was a foreign transfer.

I bank with BKKB and, in the past two years, I've only had two transfers go via the 'wrong bank'. The first was in November last year (before it became an issue anyway) and the second was in July when TW were updating their software. All other transfers have been designated FTT in my bankbook. I've averaged two transfers per month in that time.

In those cases where backup documentation of source is requested, I don't know that the amounts on the bank transfers and the amounts on the income source documents have to match exactly in order to satisfy Immigration. But I'd imagine they at least need to be similar or in the same ballpark, or it's potentially going to cause problems -- as the person in Tanoshi's report discovered

I think the criteria is not that the income source needs to be similar, but that it needs to be a regular/monthly income source that exceeds the 65/40k baht requirement. I don't think it can be a lower monthly income that needs to be topped up using 'savings' to qualify, even if the top up required each month is small.

I'm still waiting for my GiffGaff SIM - ordered three weeks ago.

I did, subsequently, receive an email from GiffGaff to say that the SIM was on its way.

More recently, I received another email reminding me to activate the SIM that I hadn't received!

It may have just disappeared into the Thai postal system as that has been extremely unreliable lately.

    I'll probably order another one.

I also received emails confirming the sims were 'on their way', Five emails and five sims failed to arrive.

Once you have a sim it works very well and costs virtually nothing to keep active permanently.

Save yourself some time and just get GiffGaff to send the sim to somebody in the UK and get them to post it to Thailand, you can do everything else on line.

In fifteen years I've never lost any post using the Thai postal system, but never received the post from GiffGaff. For some reason they just won't post to Thailand. Although, once you have a sim, as soon as you turn your phone on, you get a text from GiffGaff 'welcoming you to Thailand and informing you of their charges for making/receiving calls, text and data' so they don't have a problem with their sim being used here.

Thanks Pilotman. I might try the giffgaff SIM as mentioned in the previous post. It would be great to hear from someone who's already done that. If not, I might be the first to report back.

I've been using GiffGaff for several years as my UK mobile number in Thailand. It works well., never had any problems.

When I registered with an FX finance company several years ago they needed a UK mobile AND landline number then sent part of the registration code to the landline, part to the mobile with the final part via email. I already had a UK landline number on SKYPE and got a GiffGaff sim for the mobile.I always receive OTP's etc here in Thailand.

I bank with Lloyds and have registered my UK landline, mobile plus my Thai mobile numbers with them. When they need OTP verification they give you a four digit number on the screen along with an option of which if the three phone numbers I want them to use ( using the app or PC) then they phone you to input that number on the phone. I've used all three at various times in the past to confirm they all work properly here.

Recently, when I've logged onto Lloyds (I always use the app with fingerprint recognition) the opening page has been the option to check my phone details ready for the increased security 'coming soon' so it's not up and running yet.

For those wanting to get a GiffGaff sim I can confirm you can register, activate and top up the sim via their website on line from Thailand. But it appears they don't like sending sim cards directly to Thailand. In the last three/four years I've tried ordering about five for friends here, but none have arrived. Each time I've had to order again and send them to my daughter in the UK then get her to post them to me. To keep the sim active, as others have said, you must SEND at least one text or make a phone call at least once every six months (receiving texts/calls doesn't count).

All in all, I find it works very well.

And of course, If you need to go back to the UK at any time it's automatically usable from the moment you land. I paid for a 'goody bag' on line just before I leftand was able to make 'I've arrived' calls while taxiing on the plane.

I never had a problem. They just never wanted to even look at my pink card, saying it was no good.

They accepted my yellow book, from another province, as proof of address. A different one to what is on my DL, btw.

The asked for my passport, which is also different from the one on my DL.

Just my experience, but I've had no problem at all with a yellow book from another province. I have to show my address every 6 years when renewing my DL.

OK, sorry if if didn't remember it correctly. Did you ask why your ID card was 'no good'?

I've renewed my licence twice using just my pink ID card and yellow book. My Driving Licence has actually got my Thai ID number on it and not my Passport number in the ID number section. Exactly the same as a Thai National has.

Yes, I was replying to someone who thinks that they can use the pink card for address.

Also, they wouldn't accept my pink card for ID, they asked for my passport.

I remember discussing your problem with you on another thread a while back. If I remember, your problem had something to do with moving house since acquiring both your yellow book and pink card so they didn't tally with your current address when you were applying for your new licence.

It's a word of warning to people that, when they move house (permanently) they must go to to the new Amphur and get a new yellow book and ID card to be able to use them for 'official' purposes.

  8. It worked for me in the UK for a month last year, but, you do need a good quality internet connection. At one time though I tried watching football on my tablet using a friends internet it was almost unwatchable, with continual buffering. he had a more basic Talk Talk' connection which obviously wasn't good enough.

How much 'fiddling' does it take to fill out a TM6 on the plane? The trolley dolly brings it to you. Or one clever thing would be to pick up a few at Immigration next time you come into Thailand, and always have a couple already filled in with you. No pen required.

Unless the arthritis in the fingers makes the writing almost ineligible sometimes. I always type out and print all my Immigration forms every time if possible to make them easily readable.

Regarding the comments about TransferWise deposits being marked as international deposits.  Many of us with a BBL account have been calling TW just after we initiate a transfer and requesting that TW manually route it through BBL.  TW have been quite clear that they can make the request but cannot guarantee the results. However, after deposits began showing up in July as SWIFT and people began requesting manual routing, I have not heard of one that did not get noted as International Transfer.  Perhaps some have, and there isn't a huge sample in any case, but the preliminary results seem positive.

When making transfers, TW now have a new option in the 'reason for transfer' dropdown box that says something like long term stay in Thailand.Providing you've requested your preferred Thai bank route it will now be transferred correctly, giving a FTT code.

can anyone in Thailand who uses HD Prime tell me what the service had been like specifically for the past 5 days? Mine was decent before that but utter dross since, cant play a single movie/series and live tv is totally unwatchable. Ironically the only thing that was watchable(just) last 5 days was the Palace v Everton game(different source?) thanks for any feedback

I've had no problems in Chonburi, using AIS Fibre. I only use the options for TV and sport, I don't watch movies.

When I renewed my DL, they wouldn't accept the pink card as proof of address. This was on Khon Kaen.

You've mentioned this is a couple of threads in the past.

Ans the answer is still the same.

The Pink ID card is to confirm ID, it does not confirm address, that's what your yellow Tabien Baan is for, whatever you need them to prove.

It's exactly the same format that Thai nationals use. Thai nationals never use their ID card as official proof of address do they.

The PINK ID CARD confirms your ID  and replaces your passport.

The YELLOW TABIEN  BAAN confirms your permanent address in Thailand and replaces the residence certificate you had to get from Immigration (or utility bill you could sometimes use)

You are quoting the definition out of context.

The law says that the Owner, or House-master, or Possessor can make the report.

The house-master is the person named in the Blue Tabian Baan. The definition of house-master is just to confirm that the house-master is responsible regardless of their capacity.

    In simply terms;

    Owner = owner

House-master = person named as the head of household in the Tabian Baan. If there is one.

Possessor = Anyone that is living in the property that isn't the owner or house-master. It's required because the owner doesn't always live in a property or know of the comings and goings. And there isn't always a nominated house-master.

A foreign tenant would report as the Possessor of the property.

How can I be quoting the definition out of context???

I have written word for word what is written in the Immigration act, exactly.

The definition, as written in Section 4 of the act, says  House Master ” means any persons who is the chief possessor of a house, whether in the capacity of owner, tenant, or in any other capacity whatsoever...................please note owner, TENANT, or in any other capacity whatsoever

NOWHERE in the Act does it say the House Master is the person named as the head of household in the Tabian Baan. If there is one. AS YOU HAVE STATED.

That is you putting your own interpretation on what is written in the act and is incorrect. In fact what you are doing is interpreting a statement in a way you alone choose to do..........in exactly the same way as many people on this forum complain about IO's doing.

Your landlord is SUPPOSED to do a TM30 IF your local Immgration requires it.

The Immigration act, section 38 states:

The house – master , the owner or the possessor of the residence is responsible

    Section 4 states:

House Master ” means any persons who is the chief possessor of a
house , whether in the capacity of owner , tenant , or in any other capacity
    whatsoever

In other words you/youwife/partner can be held responsible and fined for not filing a TM30.......IF Immigration requires one.

I'm probably one of a few hundred thousand Expats who have retired to Thailand, got married to a wonderful Thai Lady and have built a home for our family of four ... Since I(we) have invested at least 1,000,000 baht or more in our home and plan to live the rest of our lives here why not make it easy on us by allowing us to use our property value(1,000,000 Baht) to satisfy the monetary portion of "Marriage O" visa extension

many of us are property owners, why not use the property as the collateral and allow us to use the cash for daily living expenses,

Nice idea but WE are not property owners, our wives are. We may have supplied the finance originally but that was just a gift. There's nothing in our own names that says we own anything.

Any link I could create about this TW users group actions or findings would be Facebook links.  So not sure how that would help.

My daughter uses facebook so she could look.

Not using Facebook seems to me is a choice.

Yes, it is a choice. I fully accept there can be a lot of good information but, from past experience, I simply don't trust it.

  17. 39 minutes ago, JDGRUEN said:

I formed a TransferWise Facebook Group which is basically a TransferWise Users Group. Most members are Expats who are needing to document 65K Baht X 12 months deposited with International Transfer encoding in their Thai Bank Account. We have nearly 200 members do far.  Through making test transfers using TW and choosing as the Reason "Funds for Long term stay in Thailand". While we have less than 15 tests transfers the results show all but one obtained an encoding of International Transfer (or equivalent code) And we are not sure if the negative one was done correctly.

Plus, one member called a senior TW support Tech. After a long chat she guided him to a document that makes it clear that choosing the Reason as "Funds for Long term stay in Thailand" will cause the transfer to be routed to the TW Thai Bank Partner that will result in an encoding of International Transfer or equivalent coding for the transfer deposit.

The document is a bit complicated in wording and next time I will post a copy of it.

Thanks for the information. Really appreciated. Some of us oldies don't/can't use Facebook. We would be eternally grateful if you could give us a link to any further updates/information via this forum.

Well, you don't need to contact them -- this is a new reason they have added because they were made aware of the problem. I presume that if you choose that reason they will make sure the funds are transferred by SWIFT rather than by SMART. By the way, only some expats are having a problem with this. When I extended my stay in June my Immigration Officer accepted the "SMT" code. As far as I know the law requires that you show a pension, not that it comes from overseas. Some officers have their own interpretation. Wish we could get more clarity from higher level. Apparently the banks are going to start giving a letter showing your transfers, so that should solve the problem. Previously, only some branches did (mine didn't).

You presume wrong on both counts.

I have already used the new option to make a transfer using TW, this morning. They do not use SWIFT, they use the same method they have been using, I'd always asked my transfer be routed via the Bangkok bank anyway and this time was no different, the PDF I received this morning confirmed the method and the transfer arrived in my account at 2:00 this afternoon coded FTT (INTERNATIONAL TRANSFER).

As for the requirement for the source of the money see the attachment. The money can come from various sources. This is the marriage version and the retirement version is very similar. The only difference is that, for retirement, you must transfer 65k baht each and every month for twelve months. But, for marriage, you only need to transfer an average of 40k baht a month to cover the twelve month period.
