That appears to be a rule at the local office has. Other offices will accept a WP1 with a tourist visa or visa exempt entry.

Hello everyone..i go to the labour office here in krabi this morning..and i got this info from the officer:
She told us that we cannot apply for a WP1 without thr NON B VISA..I told her we will just apply for WP so we can take a LETTER OF APPROVAL so that we can apply for a NON B VISA. She said we can only obtain the LETTER OF APPROVAL FROM LABOUR if we applied for a WP3..we got that information from the officer itself in the labour. She said we do not have any choice but to go out of the country if our employer would apply for the WP3 for us..because she said we cannot apply also for a WP1 without the NON B VISA..i hope i gave an enlightenment to others who will be experiencing the same situation. Thanks guys..

Duty stamps can be bought at the tax office, normally you will have a small office at the local amphur.
The OP is correct. For first time application of WP the employer needs to come along or sign a PoA with duty stamp. Don't forget a signed copy of the ID-card of the employer.
Thank u so much..

If the applicant files the application themselves there is no need for a power of attorney or tax stamps.
Do you speak good Thai? If you do not I suggest you take a Thai speaker with you. It will make things go a lot smoother.
Thank u so much..

Is there anyone who could help me about this 10 baht duty stamp for the POWER OF ATTORNEY?thanks

Hi again..We are currently filing all the documents needed for WP1. One of the requirements is the POWER OF ATTORNEY made by the applicant or the employer. If the applicant will file the WP1, the applicant needs to do the POWER OF ATTORNEY right? And i wonder where to find or buy the 10 baht duty stamps to be attached with the POWER OF ATTORNEY?thank you in advance..

Yes, you can apply for the WP1 yourself. However your new employer will have to provide the documents to support your application.
Thank you so much for the info..

Thank you so much for your reply..we can apply for WP1 by ourselves?and if we obtain the letter of approval from ministry of labour,we can then go again for a visa run to apply for a non b visa?

The visa application requirements showing a WP3 is listed as an example and it does mean only a WP3 receipt would be accepted.

Hello sir..we really need your help..We just resign from our previous job last September 30. Then we cancelled our work permit and extension of stay at the same time last October 3. We then applied for a 7 days extension at the immigration. Then yesterday October 7 we go for a visa run to penang malaysia to get a new non b because our new employer provided the documents. When we are in penang, our agency told us we cannot have a non b visa because we dont have the letter of approval from ministry of labour. We dont have a choice so we ended up having tourist visa instead. We spoke to our new employer as well and he said he needs to apply for WP3 before obtaining the letter of approval..but he said that he cannot apply for WP3 unless we are out of the country. Is there any other way to obtain that letter eventhough we are in thailand?please help us so we can have an idea on what to do..thank you so much..
