It is what it is, if I need it, and have to have it - then I’m sure I will pay, but private hospitals are a license to make money.

Just to see my specialist, I need to be guided to the waiting room by a lovely greeter, then have my temperature, weight, height and blood pressure taken (oh sir, good news everything is normal - as last month?) and if I’m allergic to anything - 250B

This is going to be an interesting time.

Sounds familiar, and to get those vaccines in the UK will add the odd few ten pound notes if done privately for paperwork needed.

Then the question is: Why did they not preorder as well, as other countries did?

Where they just waiting for a Chinese vaccine? Or are their priorities more to have arguments to keep the emergency law as long as possible active during the coming year? Or were they busy with their own money making and just forgot to preorder a vaccine? Or, are the Western vaccines simply too quickly available now, as the bankrupted Thai tourism industry is not yet cheap enough for investors from China and from their own clique?

Probably all these points play a role together.

At this time many leaders of countries around the world are on a ultra power control surge high, all are in on the 'Great Reset', 'Build back better', Build back for them, not the soon to be second class people, there's only two classes planned for, them the 'few elites', and the majority of second class ones that will own nothing.

No vaccine, no entry – the next challenge of Covid-19

    OPINION

    No-V-No-V.jpg

With the announcements this week about several vaccine candidate trials, either being completed or at the end of their Phase 3 testings, and the applications to government bodies for ‘emergency approval’, we now have to face the next question.

What restrictions will be imposed on those people who don’t have the vaccine, or even actively choose not to have the vaccine?

    And more locally…

Will Thailand allow people to enter Thailand without first having the Covid-19 vaccine?

Given the Thai Government’s low-risk strategy, well almost zero-risk strategy, and reluctance to take any chances with a second wave of Covid 19, it is highly likely there will be a stipulation that anyone entering Thailand will need a vaccine certificate or stamp in their passports.

Couple this with the Thai population’s continued fear of allowing foreigners back into the country at this time, in poll after poll, and it’s a safe bet there will be a “no vaccine, no entry” restriction imposed.

On a positive note, the Thai government may drop the 14 day quarantine for people that have had the vaccine (but not in the early days).

At this stage we know that most of the vaccine trials have had a 95% efficacy. We also know that the leading BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine needs an original jab plus a booster and has to be transported at extremely low temperature.

To complicate matters, there is not yet sufficient evidence that having had a bout of Covid-19, whether asymptomatic or not, guarantees you immunity. Or, if it does, for how long?

All these factors will mean that some level of quarantine will probably be in force as the Thai government slowly re-opens its borders to a wider groups of vaccinated travellers. This would remain in force until the world has a better knowledge of both the proven efficacy of the vaccine, or vaccines, and the re-infection rates.

So, even if we start getting groups of the world’s populations vaccinated before the end of the year, and that’s still a very big IF, there’s a lot more water to pass under the bridge until a coherent, reliable vaccine strategy can be understood and implemented.

Then there will be a rump of people, either hard core anti-vaxxers, or others who are at least skeptical of a new vaccine, who will want to wait or not want the vaccine at all. Public education, some strong science and a successful roll out of the early vaccines will be a key to winning over a lot of the world’s population.

Somehow governments and health authorities are going to have to wind back much of the disinformation floating around the internet about vaccines that is so factually out of whack with reality, it’s going to be one of the greatest public health challenges of all time, to reassure people about the science of vaccines and vaccination.

All this, in the middle of a pandemic that, for now, is still on the ascendency as far as new cases and deaths are concerned.

But there is little doubt rejoining the world of international travel, even local travel, could become restricted to only those who are vaccinated. The rest will be stuck roaming around their own countries, or states, for… years with a raft of restrictions on their lives. Who knows.

Will shopping centres or public buildings also impose a “no vaccine, no entry” policy? Hotels? Public buildings? Job applications?

On top of the economic stress which has fallen on a lot of the world, with so many governments now facing the headwinds of deep recession, the vaccine ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ will add even more public disquiet.

At this stage nobody is sure how the vaccine will be rolled out in Thailand. The Thai government has already signed up for several of the leading vaccine candidates and will most likely provide the vaccine for free to citizens under its public health system.

What does that mean for foreigners living here? If you are covered, with a work permit, under the country’s public health, are you able to get the vaccine for free too? Will the thousands of foreigners on private health insurance be covered?

Surely the insurers will want its customers to be vaccinated. Sick customers cost them money. So, will insurance renewals be limited to only people who have been vaccinated? Will visas be renewed only if you have been vaccinated?

At this stage there are no firm answers to any of these questions.

And then there is the SARS Cov2 virus (Covid-19) itself, a living virus which has the ability to mutate and adapt. Will these new vaccines be effective against all mutations? Again, this is all ahead of us.

We’re certainly now entering a new phase of this pandemic. New challenges, new questions. The rising numbers of cases throughout 2020 is only the first chapter of a book that will be many more years in the making.

Good article, but the vaccine results so far tested have an *UP* to ninety percent success result, for ninety odd percent of the people that would not die from the Covid disease.

Just looking at a city in the lower northeast makes me believe that more foreigners are living here full time.

When I arrived here in 2002, you could hardly see foreigners here.

Now you can see them everywhere, at shopping malls, restaurants, and other places.

Pretty hard to understand that the number of expats has declined.

But when is a foreigner considered an expat? After 5, 10, or 15 years?

Most of those could be 'tourists' on a 'shortish' stay.

I use Lazada all the time, and even for huge items like TV's and clothes Dryers, no issue and saves me the hassle of going to 10 billion shops and being told 'no have' when looking for stuff.

When I need to buy stuff that I can't find in Thailand for a reasonable price, I use Amazon to buy stuff from the states and have it shipped to Thailand. They take out customs duties on checkout and it arrives REALLY fast from the states. I recently spent over $1300 bucks on electronic items and watches and it arrived from the states in 5 days, and even after paying for shipping and customs through Amazon, it was still cheaper than buying locally.

Same for me,Lazada cash on delivery is what I always use,I just had to reply to your post because I always get a few close people almost in stitches when I did once always say when entering a big shop/store,'I wonder what "No have' it will be this time',that's mostly gone now with shopping on line,I have bought hundreds of items from TV's to drinking water filtration, only one slip up delivering the wrong item, they sent the cash instantly and told me to keep the low priced wrong item that came.

russia, india? they dont have the numbers to offset europe never mind china, so are they counting surrounding countries too?

this cannot be good either way (well for thailand, good for me :D)

Probably a bit of truth for both sets of Thai speakers, only problem is the American,European spenders are staying away, some ex long stayers are moving to easier countries Visa wise and better for spending wise and happy to put up with a bit lower conditions. where as the lower spending Chinese and Indianans have risen slightly.

I've caught and relocated several snakes during my 13 years here. I try to avoid killing any creature other than insects (which present various real threats to humans). Since I'm not an expert in identifying snakes, I treat them all as dangerous, and always approach and capture with great caution. But I do think they're beautiful, graceful creatures; and totally agree that nearly all of them will avoid humans when possible.

That is so,I have seen many long/big Cobras in my time here, and all capable of killing me with just a tiny drop of their venom they always want to just slithery away,I saw a huge lizard strolling across a back road the other day,I thought it was a Croc at first sight,it had to be a good six to seven feet long,I pulled up and watched it slowly make its way to the other side of the road where there was a very large overgrown pond, amazing(no traffic behind me).

SamB,I I do know in advance,it will be of no help or consolation for you, but,in my some twenty odd years of dealing with immigration people, more years before for holiday visits,I have had three(small) irritating problems with the local immigration officers, when applying for extensions for my one year retirement, only small things, like being sent off on a trip, for a couple of hours, to get that days date for my bank statement, all have been females,it must be that time of the month, many other officers, male and females, have been very good,P.S,just remembered one nasty male piece of work, when returning to Thailand many years ago through 'Swampy', large crowds and long queues, after a time, and getting near to the queue for the immigration desk ones,I spotted one queue with only one person, all the other stretched back a fair way,as they did some years ago,I walked up and joined that queue, there was this young Japanese looking immigration officer behind the desk, with bottled lens glasses, and he began shouting at the young lady in front of his desk,Guess what,I got the same treatment,I hadn't filled out the back of the T.M card, back then I never did, until just before leaving Thailand, and obviously, that's why the queue was so short,it was because of his nasty attacking attitude.

  11. Ah,can of worms time, know what you mean, and that's how it should be,but,if you take a look at the bottom of some of the official Immigration office literature for any rules,it says something like,'All matters are at the discretion of the local immigration office', leaving it wide open to,Um,interpretation of the local immigration office,I have copped a few, with regards to the bank statement for retirement, the Thai rules were, 'You are allowed up to seven days, per the date, before applying for your one year retirement extension, mine were never more than three days, and sometimes the day before, from experiences,of having to haul myself back to the bank a few times,to get that days date,I now get it the same day, never once had any problems with Chonburi immigration though, Edit, this post was meant to be a reply to a comment.

Did mine at CW few weeks back. In the past several years I had never been asked for map. This time I was and fortunately had a flyer with condo address and map on back. IO officer accepted it no problems. On your list you might add regarding bank book a deposit on day you attend imm

Yes, I have been asked two times now to go back to the bank and get that days stamp for my one-year retirement extension bank letter, by the time I get there and back, another few hours have gone,(two different IO)never had that problem at Jomtien, I have always thought it was up to seven days for the bank letter, I usually did the bank letter the day before, not anymore,I did it on the same day for the last one, and will do the same for the next one coming up, tend to be at the back of the queue though, and,it is stated in the 'small print', each Immigration office, can interpret the rules as they see fit.

I'd love to know what the success rate is of those who try this method. I've tried many times and only succeeded in getting my app in once. And that was rejected. 'Report to the office in person'.

A few years ago when it began, I did the ninety days online, no problem, I thought, this is much better, then it stopped, and began again, long story short, when I went to apply for my one year retirement extension, the immigration officer said, "not any good, you have a problem, you will have to pay a fine, a big one,I thought,F--- it, I have all the relevant paperwork, all the copies and now they drop this one on me, anyway, after many nail-biting minutes, with him clicking away on his computer, me looking down at the floor, thinking 'how much',a few thumps with his stamper, I thought it was the fine he was stamping, he handed my passport back, all stamped up with my new one year extension, I wish he had given me the nod about five minutes before, I'm back to a visit to immigration, for now,and that immigration officer, he turned out to be a very good one, as I found out with my visits after.

It is difficult to tell as pic too blurry, but looks like "weevils" as Sirrcco said.....I find that even if white flour is sealed in a Zip-Loc bag they will appear after a few weeks.

I used to sift them out, but now I just pretend that they are "Whole Grains", leave them in and I tell myself it is healthier than plain white flour!

And maybe they add a little protein?

If weevils, just put the bag ,or bags, in the freezer overnight, they die,and no problem health wise if eaten, and as you say,a bit of protein thrown in.

Carpet beetles ?    If you have some small centipedes in the home, (NOT the giant variety).... they will take care of the other bugs.

Do you mean the small ones that roll up into a circle? I like those, and years ago did pick them up and move them outside, until a Thai person told me they bite,I still move them outside when I see one occasionally, but if they get rid of other pests, will leave single ones to do their stuff.

In retrospect, it would seem that choice was a pretty big mistake on his part, unfortunately.

Meanwhile, why is no one here asking -- why would Ukraine be deporting a U.S. citizen attempting to enter their country because he had, according to the poster here, a ONE day overstay on his prior tourist visa???

By contrast, if you have a tourist visa in Thailand and overstay by one day, you pay a relatively small fine at exit and go on your way. And AFAIK, having a one day overstay in Thailand now doesn't harm or impair your ability to come back later on a subsequent tourist visa...

So someone should be asking, what the heck is up with Ukraine?

Good sensible comment, sounds like a few in different countries have gone into overdrive with 'Legalities', I could understand this happening  if the person had done something bad, but, a small overstay, where a small fine could have been implemented, should have sufficed.
