Can't understand why some suggest about brown envelopes as you mentioned to make life easier. It is precisely because of such stupid actions that breeds problems. As mentioned, agents fees / monetary charges in relation to immigration approvals and hassles / frustrations we faced may be an intentional diversion for us to to seek the services of agents. With no que cutting and priority given to agents, the efficiency of the public service may actually speed up.

I must give credit to the IMO working under such trying times. I am sure it is not by choice. It is not a joke watching all those infected in the hospital beds. Hope they are safe and protected. At least, remember to wear a mask when you are present.

It's weird why they don't just make the "Retirement Visa" an "ILR" with employment restrictions... Just set the one time fee higher (much higher) than the 1900 baht p/a

Leave the current annual renewal visa as an option, but for those who are serious about spending the rest of their days in Thailand with as little hassle as possible they might go for the ILR-RV option. I donno, maybe set the (non-refundable) fee at 40,000 baht for 60yr old applicants. If they live 20 more years in Thailand that's equal to 1900 p/a + 2000 one time admin fee. Younger and Older applicants gets their fee adjusted accordingly.

If the retiree comes out of retirement? They invalidate the ILR-RV and has to apply for normal work permits etc. But if the business is not based in the kingdom and income is coming in from abroad, I'm sure something can be arranged... with appropriate *cough* brown envelopes *cough* taxes

At least that's how I would do it if I were in charge... Cuts hassle, red tape and gives the country more immediate cash injection.
