The way the lawyer explains what is happening is confusing and not clear.

The one thing that is clear in the police order is that in both Thai and English- the words - applies ONLY to O-A Visas.

Every posting on any forum that I have read  indicates the Immigration Officer looks at the Passport and the  Original Visa one entered on- if the Passport shows O-A- insurance is required- except if the person is now appling under a marriage extension- some offices have indicated insurance still required. Other offices inidicate go out and get an O and others simply process without the insurance.

If the IO sees an original ( O) Visa-  then there is no question of the insurance at this time whether one is extending under  retirement or marriage.    This is the one  section that the order is clear on.

What is clear, is that you and other self appointed experts posting, never understood the police order when it was released and are still not understanding it. Just simply making it up as you go along. Best not to keep posting as some sort of Immigration lawyer and getting egg on your face....again

  2. Should Casinos ever be allowed, there is no need to build a casino in Chonburi. There is already one built and has a room count now, since the new wing was completed last year, in the region of 6500 rooms. Another new wing has already started to be built. The place was built for that sole reason because back in the late 80's and early 90's, casinos were very close to happening in Thailand. Do your history on the Ambassador hotel and why it was built, who built it etc. It was at one time, the biggest hotel in the world. With the recently completed new wing and another under construction, it may well be the biggest hotel in the world again. Casino hotels don't want you leave and spend your money outside. Ambassador city has everything. Shops, night clubs, restaurants, huge parking etc.
The casino wing is already there and has been locked off from day one.
It's the only place outside of Bangkok in this area that would ever have a chance to become a casino.

Nothing new there really. They have been telling people that they have to stay overnight at some Malaysian border crossing for many years. I am not sure that is a Thai immigration requirement. It could be something that Malaysian immigration has been telling them.

No big deal really if your are prepared to stay at least one night. Arrive late stay overnight and return the next morning.

There is a general shift coming to all land borders which will become evident this year. Particularly in the application at the borders and the issuing of these ME Non O visas in Embassy's and consulates.

There have been reports at other crossings lately too. It’s appears to be a directive from the top. No doubt some IO’s will be taking advantage of the situation.

I’ve been warning this was coming.

They weren’t suggesting the OP could get a 90 day extension (new entry stamp) from CW, just that they should be going to CW for an extension and not doing a visa run.

The shutdown is coming. It started over a week ago

Where does it suggest that this is a scam to extort money? Surely for that to be true the IO would be demanding payment in return for allowing the visa run.

That border crossing stopped tourist visa runs at one point in the past, it’s more likely this is a policy stopping a visa run than extortion.

I imagine the IO was telling the OP to go the CW and apply for an appropriate extension of stay, rather than use the ME visa to live in the country.

Your correct. There is no extortion. The visa run company's have now stopped going to the Malaysian border. No more same day turnaround possible at those anymore, no matter what visa or visa exempt.

They denied him entry and charged him 4000 baht. Was that the detention fee?

    802 baht a day

For the TM11 and TM12 it says the form must be submitted in person. How can this be done at the airport, and how long does the form take to process? Is there an appeals section? Also, if at an immigration office and the visa is revoked, how does the appeal process work? Thanks

Normally a minimum of 5 days in Detention all together.

The curious part is, the TM7 form doesn't have the year term prepopulated. It asks the applicant to fill in the requested term. Obviously, everyone always writes one year or 365 days, I'd assume. I've never thought of a situation where you might want to write 360 days or such.... until now.

You will only now get an extension end date that matches the expiry date of Insurance. That's how it now works

You sure about that! I've been here 7 yr on extensions of stay. Never done a 90 day report. I'm under impression that to obtain CR at CW, I would need lease etc (perhaps tm30 to be on safe side). I deal with CW. Certainly not a 90 day report.

Bangkok immigration will not issue a CR to anybody not doing 90 days reports. I cannot remember a time when they did. If they ever did, it was a long time ago. Australians in Bangkok not doing 90 days reports have an even bigger issue as the Australian embassy no longer issues them either.

He does not have a long history. Reread his original post. He has been in Thailand for most of the last four months. That would disqualify him in Savaannakhet, but not in Vientiane or Hanoi. He would even have a good chance flying in for a visa exempt entry (though I would not recommend Don Muang).

4-5 months is enough for a refusal now in Vientiane. That's also enough now for a likely refusal in Hanoi and to be issued with the 'Go home to your own country' leaflet. People need to get in their heads that 3-4 entry's now back to back, is mostly the end of it regarding tourist visas and visa exempt entry's..

Do not try for a visa in Savannakhet. You would most likely be successful in Vientiane or Kuala Lumpur. Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Yangon are other options.

No chance in Vientiane with his history. Hanoi 50/50.
Yangon, the visa run company that was going there, aren't going anymore since their requirement update as below. Notice they now request your old passport if your trying the passport switch to a new passport there now.

Basic Documents required: 1. passport which validity is no less than 6 months 2. visa application form completely filled in   3. 2 recent color photos (3.5x4.5 cm) 4. invitation letter (if any) 5. confirmed round trip air ticket or hotel reservation/accommodation reference (for travelling through border)   6. 40USD visa fee ‐‐ we accept only new USD note. good condition. No mark, no scratch.

Additional documents for first‐time application/holder of new passport 1. letter of employment (for employee) or company registration (for business owner) 2. invitation letter (if any) 3. evidence of sufficient financial means to visit Thailand   (estimately 800 USD/person) or prove of properties or letter from guarantor. 4. Copy of previous passport (if any)

Additional documents for applicant who has had extension of stay or many entries to Thailand 1. letter of employment (for employee) or 2. company registration (for business owner) or 3. Guarantee/invitation letter from company in Thailand.

So I visited an agent today in Jomtien (Tiktok) and the fee would be 20k (3-month non-o plus 1-year extension for 15-month stamp). They "guarantee" a successful outcome--never have had a rejected application, they say--and no possibility of overstay. My visa exempt extension expires on Feb. 9th. Agent told me I would probably not get my passport with stamp back till Feb 11th-14th (I thought it took approx. 15 days from start to finish, no?). This seems strange to me. She seemed to imply that I would be in the "system" with new non-o long before Feb. 9th. It just worries me that I would not get my passport back with new non-o stamp (and therefore be able to know for sure application was successful) till AFTER my current visa exempt expires. Any advice welcome here. I do not want to risk an overstay. If I go through this agent, is a successful outcome pretty much guaranteed? Tiktok seems to have good reviews.

Agent wasn't surprised by the Jomtien requirement of the work permit/Tabien bahn. She has even heard of cases, if I heard her right, where they required a copy of the chanote in addition. Not even sure what that is. "They are trying to push foreigners out," she said. You think? And obviously not just the poor ones, as others on TVF have implied. I got the 800k right there. I got health insurance.

So I need to make a decision here before 11AM tomorrow, our appointment to go to Jomtien immigration for apparently a photograph. How much do I really want to retire in Thailand? I have to ask myself. Should I instead stay in Thailand till Feb. 9th researching retirement in Vietnam (Nha Trang, Ho Anh, Da Nang). Let's face it. This is basically a 20k kickback I'd be paying to a country that has nothing but official contempt for western long-stayers. I've got a very nasty taste in my mouth about this country right now.

Thanks to all for the quick posts.

You may want to reflect on the fact, that once you use an agent in Pattaya to get an extension, you will find it very difficult to break away. Particularly using an agent to get the O visa to start the extension. You will find that out should you ever decide to move province and attempt to use another immigration office to renew the extension at the end of the year

or get someone Thai to give you a contract either a fresh contract and move or a 'fake' contract and stay were you are,

Probably not the best idea considering Jomtien over the last few months, have started to single out a few new applications for a home visit.Blame those people that were staying in hotels and got caught out. Jomtien don't all allow hotel addresses to be used for extensions
