I wonder what about the soapy massages around Ratchadapisek and NewPhetburi-Road?! Are they still open and busy? Normally loads of chinese customer there. Must be a little bit embarassing for the staff....

I tell you why not Mister: Because Sarasin-bridge in Phuket is of 660m length, and even the mentioned millau bridge in france is "only" 2460m, while (realistic) distance between Samui and mainland is at least 20km... But maybe a street-crossing bridge somwhere in the outskirts of KhonKaen could be named after Big Too

Am I the only one here who wonders why BigJoke is not in the slightest embarrased being "caught" in a massage parlor? Do state-officials and politicians really park their cars openly in the street, next to the entrance-door? Can all the ministers, gouvernors etc. be found in Patpong, Ratchadapisek or New Petchaburi road? Or could it be that one of them even sits next to you (as a customer!) in Nana-entertainment area? Questions over questions

That happens in germany every week. Mostly romanian or bulgarian "immigrants" who steal copper and steel lines to sell it to scrap metal merchands. Sometimes german train system is interrupted because thieves grap signalling-cables from beside the tracks. Culprits rarely arrested. So what can you do? Telecom-, Electrical-power- and train-companies use "chemical DNA" nowadays to brand/identify the metals, ie. they spray a film of identifier from helicopters on overhead-lines.

All Thai Taxi (Nakorn Chai Air bus company) starting 1 may!
Passengers call and book a cab. Company owns the vehicles and the drivers are employees of the company.
Drivers not allowed to add anything or dismissed, charge based on standard Land Transport Dept., rates plus 20Baht to book by phone. Regular follow up to ensure customers fully satisfied.
All the cars are Toyota Prius hybrid, no gas tank, large luggage space.

That is veeery good news and a nice idea from NakhonChai Air. Why? It is a reliable and respectable company. I like their bus services and try to always use them when I go upcountry.
So chances are high they will estabslish a reasonable and hassle-free taxi-service. And the best thing is: they use Toyota Hybrid-Cars that don't constantly burn fuel when they are stuck in traffic and go electrically at low speed- best for Bangkok gridlock and good for the environement.

I've travelled Thailand for more than 10 years now. I have never had any issues or problems with hotels, restaurants, car rentals, supermarkets, night-pubs, barbers, public busses, boats, karaoke-bars, temples or national parks (except the 400 Baht entrance fee for foreigners - but thats a clear "rule".) Everybody always fair, mostly friendly, sometimes interested. Concerning Men in Brown, I got two 500Baht-tickets altogehter, one time I didn't wear a helmet, the other time I hadn't my driving licence with me, so no reason to grumble here. The ONLY thing that goes on my nerves again and again and again are these annoying Taxi-/ TucTuc-/ Songtheauw- and Motorsaay-Drivers. Wherever I go: chances are high they try to cheat me. Wherever I walk: they bother with their repeated "Mister Mister need taxi?" and their constant honking. Whenever I'am feeling good and have a relaxed afternoon: for sure there will be one asking an unreasonable price or refusing the trip. Doesn't matter at the seaboard, the airport, in Bangkok or in deep Isahn - you always have to tackle with them. If Thai politics or city-administration could clean up this mess (for example crackdown on waiting TucTuc or impose clear (englisch) price-boards in Songtheauws and at Motorsaay-Taxistands) that would be a hugh improvement. Millions of tourists would have a nicer holiday and travel-expirience.

The graphics that describe the actual situation better can be found on kaotic or liveleak or bestgore.com: dozens of mashed or beheaded moped-drivers under truck-wheels.

The signalling system is perfectly adequate, as long as the signals are obeyed. The method of fixing rails to sleepers is perfectly adequate if sleepers are replaced when they rot. Passing messages as described, although low tech, works does it not?
The problem with Thailand's railway system does not lie in the age of the equipment, it lies in the way in which it is managed.
The fastest train from Buriram to Bangkok ("Special express") takes 7½ hours - for a distance of 380 kilometers! Obviousliy, they can't do it faster with the existing equipment (tracks, trains, signalling, crossing, stations etc.). Thai trains have an average travel speed of 40-50kph. So, instead of dreaming of bullet trains going 300kph (wich they will never afford, even with the help of the Chinese) they should with little money mondernise their existing system and try to reach average travel speeds of 80-100kph, wich would be enough for a country the size of thailand (ie. 7 hour ride Bangkok-ChiangMai compared to 12 hours today or 10 hours Bangkok-HatYai compared to 16½ hours today).

Thai overland train-system is really stuck in the 19. century while most other countries (even 3.-world countries) have arrived in the 21. century. Have you ever seen the "communication" in running trains or at stations? Messages are in a little plastic-bag that dangles on a pole beside the track. The train driver grab them WITH BARE HANDS and then, a few miles later, hang that plastic-bag with the "answer" back on another pole, sometimes with the help of stick. You can watch that at the stations in Buriram or Udon-Thani or when you go to the first carriage and watch the drivers-cabin from behind. I have never seen that anywhere in the world and it really makes the impression of a child-train in an amusement-park....

When I saw the RSS-Feed "Fast and Furious 7 showing suspended until further notice" I thought it was because of the road-carnage in Thailand and part of the campaign for higher road-safety (ie. don't give patterns for brainless Lamborghini-drivers). But no - it's only about money and a lawsuit...

Well then - when there will be the first Brand-names and articles developed (not assembled!) in Thailand? Things that you can export and that bring revenue? Complex goods with a high vertical range of manufacture like japanese or korean or taiwanese products? Until then, Thailand will not be able to pay high wages and salaries IMHO.

A complete ban isn`t a good idea IMHO. Even in germany a child of as little as 5 or 6 can be a passenger on a motorbike with appropriate child seat (of course only ONE per vehicle and with helmet). If children aren't allowed to be passengers on a motorbike, what comes next? Ban them from riding their own little bikes to elementary school? They must have the right to be outside traffic participants! Otherwise everything will even more focus on cars, cars, cars. There are really enough of them in thailand!

Nice Video, however, western countries could never promote their domestic tourism with a dub text like the TAT-clip. All the off-voice says is: travel, relax, party, dance enjoy thai things, in thay style, the thay way, with thai people. See thai things, hear thai music from thais for thais, eat thai-food prepared by thais and dedicated to thais etc. and so on. If this was all you could hear in a spot for german tourism everybody would say the whole ad is egoistic, racist, nationalistic, chauvinist and simply "nazi".

Trust me, 180km/h is more than enough. And by the way - having 250km/h passenger-trains and 110km/h freight-trains on the same track is very very rare and would be complicated. Doesn't mix at all here in germany.

It seems like many men from western countries feel very alone in BKK. More then they would feel alone in let's say Paris, Tokio or Rio - even if they were guests there. Why is that? Maybe because Thais are even more xenophoic? Or because white men think they could easily have a nice girlfriend in Bangkok, but it turns out that a thai "girlfriend" is not the same as a french, swedish or german girlfriend? To be honest, I speak fluent thai, but I feel often lost in BKK. Better move to smaller cities (HuaHin, Rayong, KhonKaen....). You can meet nice people there ore maybe find some help before you jump off the balcony.

That would be great! Mercedes-Benz- best busses at all. But wait - who is going to sell you a brandnew western standard commuter-bus for as low as 3.5 or 4 Million Bath? They are sold around 8 Million. But wait - you can get them used for as low as 1.5Mio Baht (35 000.- €) - 10 years old, 1 Mio. kilometers. Still better than chinese crap and everything that is rolling on Bangkok-streets today:

Boggles the mind to read, year after year how the NE people and the government simply doesn't
know how to deal, and how completely unprepared they are to the cold season, I mean, com'on, is this the
first cold season you have experienced in your life? and every year the same story, people die,
people starve, shortage of blankets food, heating etc. etc..
when will you ever learn to prepare for anything in life people of the north? here is a clue,

Watch them bulldoze through the country without concern for safety ,quality and the environment . They don't give a shit about it in their own country so , very doubtful, they will change their practices in Thailand
In this particular case I would say: The end justifies the means. Thailand (desperately) deeds a "modern" standard-gauge train-system. And IF one day it will be up and working (even if not built by international safety and quality standards) that will be a huge advantage and progress to thailand and south-east-asia. In other words: Every rail-based transport will be better than any street-based transport. Think of the millions of old and dangerous busses and lorrys on the roads, the carnage, the waste of fuel, the gridlock in the capital - anything away from streets is better than now..

I am not a specialist, but isn't thailand famous fo its Thai Hom Mali rice? Where I live in Germany it is the type we buy in Asia-Supermarkets (and pay expensive). I don't know what they mean with "White rice", but probably it is a common (and "boring") variety you can buy cheap at any supermarket (aka "Aldi").
