  1. I wish I had your aptitude for languages or the time to study. 13 years living here and I still can't read a letter of Thai. Can't speak much either, but one of the benefits of living/working in Bangkok is that it's easy to get by with basic Thai.

I suck at languages, but i do put in the effort. Anyone can truly learn. There is so much out there to help you learn. Ive taken lessons, found language tutors on italki, used online programs such as thaipod101.com. if you want to learn bad enough, you can do it. Learn for fun, we wont be graded anymore

  2. Currently in Pattaya on a 60 setv. Im 54. I plan on leaving end of april (if i get a normal 30 day extension it will take to my departure date) i plan on staying in nyc for the summer and then returning to thailand in October. I think i have a few options.

    1. Convert my setv to a non O visa. That gives me 90 days, and then immediately try to convert that to an extension of stay for retirement with multi entry.

    2. Just get a normal 30 extension on my current setv single entry. Then when in nyc apply for an actual retirement visa with multi entry. A bit more leg work with all the required documents ie medical but its a real retirement visa.

Overall i plan to live in Thailand for 6 to 8 months and spend the other months in the states. However i would want tge option of not returning to the states should i desire.

Thoughts on which visa? Embassy out reach in pattaya is march 3rd so i want to have my plan together before then

    Thanks

  3. Well im already in thailand on a single entry tourist visa 60 day. Leaving end of april. If i convert That to a non O visa, i think i wont be able to apply for a multi entry as i will be leaving thailand with more than 30 days left on the initial conversion to the O visa. My goal is to leave end of april with the goal of returning in october and staying for 8 months then back to the states again for the summer. Any suggestions on what i should do?

  4. So after reading a few threads on visas i got a little confused (no surprise there)

If i convert an non immigrant O visa to a retirement visa with multiple entry in Thailand is that different than getting a retirement visa in nyc? I seem to be reading that it is. What in interoreting is that if i get it in thailand its not a true retirement visa but a 1 year rerirement vusa with extensions of stay. If i get one in nyc then its a true visa....help

  5. Its just so damn tiring trying to figure out what is really needed . I get so confused. Whats the difference between an non immigrant O and a non immigranr O A visa. I am in pattaya on a setv and plan on converting that to an Non immigrant visa then converting that to a ME retirement visa using an affadavit of income from my american embassy in bangkok.

  6. Im on a 60 day tourist visa and will be starting the process to get a retirement visa. My understanding is I first need to convert my visa to a Non Immigrant O visa. I have read i can not do this in pattaya but will need to do this in Bangkok only

Is this accurate? Secondly, I plan on using a letter of income from my US embassy instead of having 800k in bank. Since Ill be in Bangkok to get the O visa i was planning on getting the letter there as well. Lastly, i will apply for my retirement visa in pattaya as that is where i will have my lease contract. Does all this sound correct?

    Thanks
