  1. US citizens have needed a visa to go to Vietnam. 8 years ago it was on arrival, expensive and (for US citizens) good for a year of multiple entry. Now it's 30 days, obtainable online before you travel. Just did an evisa for vietnam this month. Last year they took 3 days, this one took 7 days for approval. Your cards might have been rejected as they weren't enabled to be used in Vietnam? Did you use the official website? http://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/ Mike
  2. Life is not a riddle to be solved, but a journey to be enjoyed
  3. Same thing happened to me this year after my 7th retirement extension of an OA visa at Phetchaburi immigration in Cha-am. . It went quick and pleasant at immigration, as I have learned what papers they need to see and bring them. But this year, as I was waiting for my visa to get stamped in, they asked me to draw them a map to my home. This was a first. And 6 days later two officers came to my home, unannounced, as I was just leaving. They wanted a photo of me inside and also outside my home by the mailbox. Maybe they would have called me if I had not been home. -They only wanted me to open the door and step inside the doorway, they were not interested to go into my house. BTW For my monthly income verification, they want to see the WISE transfer statements, and also my USA bank monthly statements showing the corresponding amount going out. And of course my SCB statement showing it coming in.
  4. BKKSPEED has 4 SHOPS IN BKK and sells Shoei. Check the manufacture dates as many hrlmet shops have a large stock of old helmets.
  5. Try Bangkok Tactical in Gaysom shopping mall andThe Tank Storea, cross the road in Centralworld.
  6. Had the full series (5 shots) after a dog bite here, and 13 years later had to get two boosters after a monkey scratched me. You don't have to be bitten to get rabies. It can enter through the eyes, mouth, nose or open wound no matter how small. Could get it from an animal licking your hand and then touching these with your hand, or from flung saliva from the animals mouth. The vaccine is best for people who regularly work with wild or feral animals, where this could type of contact could happen and they wouldn't know it. It offers some protection.
  7. I bought a Yaris with 7k on the clock 2.5 years ago. came with new Dunlop Enesave ec300 tires on it, now at 57000k, and should last this next rainy season. No hydroplaning, good grip, and seem quiet, but can't compare to anything else. I'll buy these again when they wear out.
  8. The best way to get rid of ants that I found is boric acid. (this is a powder, and what is in Borax detergents for washing laundry)It's also used as a fire retardant in some mattresses. It is non-toxic to pets or kids in the amounts used, and kills ants in their nests, not just the ants out scavenging. The ant traps that you can buy some places with a liquid in them, are using boric acid solution. Chemipan Corp in Bangkok sells it online....Line ID is @chemipan Email is [email protected] I ordered a kilo online 6 years ago (the company information is also 6 years old) and it was delivered via post all for about 350 baht. There is still have more than half of the kilo left and a I gave a ton of it away. You must mix it as close to exactly at a ratio of 1 to 10, boric acid to jam or honey. (1/4 cup jam is 12 teaspoons, so mix it with 1.2 teaspoons of boric acid) Too much will kill the ant before it gets back to the nest and too little will not kill all the ants. It must be crushed or ground fine as the chunks will not dissolve not matter how tiny they are, which makes the solution weakened. Then put the mixture in water bottle caps where you see ants, and shortly they will find it and send a signal for the rest of the ants to come collect it, taking it back to the nest. In a few hours to a day the ants are gone. I won't use this outside, as ants are useful in nature, but inside my house ants are fair game . The chalk, powder and spray only affect the ants you see, unless you can locate the nest. They are all toxic to humans also. You can google the story about the elderly couple and the two young 20-something-year-old women who all died in their sleep at the same hotel in Chiang Mai, within a short time frame, from "heart attack", but which was finally attributed to insecticides.
  9. We one bought one online from Powerbuy, on sale. They installed it free of charge and you schedule the installation during checkout process. Took only 5 days to deliver/install.
  10. Useful information if looking for a quality helmet. https://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/
  11. Level one, gate 8 has some seating places outside, close enough to take some luggage. Exit the gate (door) and go to your left. There is a 7-11 there and places to sit, also a smoking area. To reach gate 8, when on level one, it is all the way to your left when you are facing the outside of the airport. Level one gate 8 is also where you can get busses to Hua Hin or Pattaya and Koh Chang
  12. We went to Hanoi a few weeks ago. Depending what country you're from and your length of stay you need no visa, or only an Evisa. No masks required anywhere, even on the plane or going thru immigration. We flew Thai Smile air.
  13. Birds don't like stickiness on their feet. Many of the commercially available products are liquids/ gels which keep roosting or perching areas sticky. Maybe there's a homemade version on the internet.
  14. My first post listed the wrong bar as my favorite bar was not on Google maps so I saved the one beside it for a marker. ...Lamun Bar ละมุนบาร์ is my favorite. I'm in Lamun bar now..happy to report its almost business as usual in the area. It's been a year since I was here. There is major road construction on lat krabang road in this area. A new.. to me..bar has opened. WAREHOUSE 8 It's beside Lamunand is an air-conditioned music bar. The flea market across the road is a bit less than before...but just a bit.
  15. There are many Thai style bars and clubs. It is my favorite place in Bkk of late. Our favorite bar is this one- สุขสมาน bar and restuarant copy and paste it into google maps. There are many bars in that area, all within walking distance of each other. Just do a search for bars on Google maps also. Also have two small malls, Paseo mall and Robinson Lifestyle mall down the road a few minutes, with both a Tops market and a Villa Market. These malls are almost next to each other for a wide variety of chain restaurants. SukSanan bar I mentioned has cheap beer and food and good music and a friendly Thai owner. Most of these bars have only Thai customers. They area are a pleasant break from the touristy bar areas. I prefer this area to downtown now. There is also a nice but small night market near that bar, called the Savurnabumi Flea market?

  17. LMG gave me a choice when I renewed last week, between the old and new policy.. They recommended I ask my local Immigration office what they are accepting. I went to Tha Yang Immigration to ask them about it as I renew my OA next month. Tha Yang is accepting the old 400,000/40,000 until Sept. Go yo your local office and ask and then you'll know.
  18. HuaHin Taxi Miss-a on Facebook, 1600 to or from the airport, 1800 to or from other in BKK. No restrictions for travel that I know of. Never late, uses a Fortuna. I used her many times.
  19. I wouldn't tlike anyone you have covid. This is a new updatefrom the US CDC website, Dec, 27 2021 QUOTE: Given what we currently know about COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, CDC is shortening the recommended time for isolation for the public. People with COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days and if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), follow that by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter. The change is motivated by science demonstrating that the majority of SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs early in the course of illness, generally in the 1-2 days prior to onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after. 20. The 72 hours is before your departure flught. I FLFlew from SD to BKK and my first flight was canceled after boarding, and rescheduled for the next day. So my arrival in BKK was about 90 hours after my test was performed. No questions asked in BKK, but Japan airlines needed to see the policy from Thailand. It was printed right on the bottom front of my COE.
  21. My girlfriend is Thai. We drive car or big bike everywhere, never had to show it in any checkpoint, or my vaccine certificate. Started driving from Chiang Mai province to Prachuap Khiri Khan to Pattaya, stopping at hotels here and there. We were stopped twice at checkpoints but given a lookover in the car and waved on. It's considered dangerous to get a vaccine immediately after having covid due to the large number of antibodies you have. It may cause a serious reaction. Also, within three months of having covid you may test positive due to...I forget the term...., but it's something that replicates the virus in your body in a harmless state. Hence this paper. Doctors here are apparently aware of this. Her paperwork has the dates she tested positive, started/stopped quarrantine, where quarrantined, and states that she cannot pass covid on now. She called Koh Chang...some office, to make sure we could get on the ferry using this. We don't use the apps on our phones, never been asked to see them. Even when I returned here early October. Also flew to Chiang Mai without it in October but had to fill out a one-page health questionnaire and show Vax cert. to leave the arrival room. We plan on traveling quite a bit once the rain stops so we'll see how universal this is. Is there some sort of Covid Trip Report thread here to watch?
  22. Get a paper from your doctor stating that you had covid, the date you recovered, and the dates and length of quarrantine. It's good for three months, in place of a vaccine or test. We're traveling now, my girlfriend is using this same paperwork. So far it's good in Bangkok, Pattaya, Koh Chang, Prachuap Khiri Khan.
  23. On my recent flight back from the states, they counted the 72 hours as before the departure time of my first flight. Note about flight delays and timing: My 1st flight left at 6am from a small airport to a gateway airport in the USA. The covid test was performed 69 hours before this first departure. After boarding and sitting on the plane for two hours, it was cancelled, which meant I would miss my connections to Japan and then Bangkok. I got my flights rescheduled for the following day, at exactly the same times. When i flew next day and arrived at Dallas airport for my connecting flight to Japan, Japan airlines counted the time and it was a problem since the test was now older than 72 hours since my new departure. I knew I had read about delays not counting for time during my CEO application process, but could not remember where I saw it, and me and two JAL employees started looking online for this information. Turns out it was printed right on the front of the COE. Quoted from COE: Remarks : 1. Before travelling to Thailand, all travellers must download the ThailandPlus application and register by using COE number and reference code. 2. The Communicable Disease Control Officer at International Port Health Office of Thailand has the authority to decide on the final quarantine period. 3. Note to airlines - flight changes (due to flight delay or cancellation ONLY) are permitted within 72 hours from the original flight time without the need to issue a new Certificate of Entry, provided that all other required documents are still valid. In Japan, all paperwork was checked again, I had to point this out again, and they had to recheck this with a superior, taking about 25 minutes to clear me for boarding for Bangkok. Upon arrival in Bangkok, nobody mentioned this delay or PCR test timing, and nobody mentioned or asked about Thailand plus or other app.
