  1. That's not how economics or budgeting works. And military hardware is the kind of stuff everyone likes to claim is a waste of money - UNTIL THEY NEED IT.
  2. That's definitley tax evasion (appearance of it anyway) - and if your funds were already taxed then Thailand has no intention of taxing them again. Keep your returns, keep your receipts, do big boy things. The degrees of complication you guys are coming up with to avoid taxes which you are already exempt from (on the basis of having already paid tax on the funds) is absolutley hilarious.
  3. Didn't say I have a feeling one way or another about the music (since you brought it up - it's good in certain settings for me), but I find the looking to be better in other places - or I can just order delivery from my nearly endless list of line contacts.
  4. I've been getting similar questions more and more when I get up to immigration (maybe the 50 or so visa exempt stamps have something to do with it, not sure), anyway - explaining what I do for a living clears it up in 30 seconds. Occasionally they will also ask if I have a girlfriend... Not sure of the relevance there, but last time when I said I don't the female officer asked if I want one... 555.
  5. I'm 37 - so make of that what you will... Compared to "what it was" when I moved here 14 years ago - it's a combination of being more sterile, familiar, boring, and expensive. "Girl quality" has also taken a nosedive (regarding attitude, looks are subjective). I can't speak for tourists whatsoever. It may be "I'm getting old", but the usual "spots" just don't appeal to me anymore, or to any of the guys I know within a few years of my age.
  6. "Go hook up with delicious women in some other city" isn't woke/not woke - it's just dumb. Most of us didn't come here because we saw a billboard. You're just seeing a "collision of poop for brained" people and deciding to pick a side for some reason. There is no side - they're exactly the same.
  7. That's the idea - except when you need them for real it's too late unless you have them.
  8. Ah, because I see relationships as futile (and have a bunch of circumstantial and statistical evidence to base this on) it means I "need help" - got it... unfortunately I'm not the one doing the same thing over and over and somehow expecting different results. Cheers though, you'll figure it out some day.
  9. Neither - just been seeing this <deleted> go on for my entire life and it's always the same story with equally bad results the world over. The reality is people (especially those born after about 1985) aren't really suited for living with other people regardless of background, sexuality, etc.
  10. That's the worst advice possible. Neve get married to anyone (bar girl, regular girl, western girl, ladyboy, boyboy) - ANYONE. Or do - I still haven't gotten of saying "I tried to warn him" in the middle of a laugh.
  11. This is a new one - what's wrong with owning cars now?
  12. Ah yes, these clowns, always trying to outplay the system instead of just buying foreigner quota in a condominium like a sane person. Want to live in the countryside? Too bad - buy a car. Cheaper than burning millions on these games.
  13. You're forgetting Freedumbland - now they riot FOR dictatorship in that place.
  14. The whole time americans, brits, and aussies have been busy [redacted]ting on each other - and it was the swiss who snuck in under the radar and turned out to be the real pieces of [redacted].
  15. Time for him get "get the [expletive] off"... his words. I'd only add "the planet" to the end.
  16. Fishing place at Jomtien soi 15 is selling some for 200 baht each. Maybe start there? 🤣🤣🤣
  17. Idk man, different stroke for different folks... Not spending 1000 baht a year added maintenance fees on a fountain in the lobby seems like a good deal to me... Especially when multiplied across many units.
  18. No, no, no; let them leave based on false impressions. The less "taxation is theft" folks around the better - especially when they don't comprehend what taxation is.
  19. Owning dozens of units over the years I've consolidated all my ownership into VT (5C/D only now) buildings. Best retention (and appreciation) of value and best actual "care" of any I have been involved with. Low maintenance fees (no wasted funds on fountains you don't actually "use" but look pretty, etc.). The new buildings are all ticking time bombs ordered on wish (dot) com.
  20. Been living here visa exempt month on month off for 14 years. It's a non issue. Lately it gets a chuckle and a มีความสุข from the officers.
  21. It's about the "company you keep"... many cannot seperate "fun life" from "real life"... you think Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Romanian, etc. women (and men) in Europe don't do the same <deleted> when given the opportunity?
  22. It's about where and who you're looking for and finding. Never truly "free" when you start looking at every last baht for food, drinks, etc. (though, again, that can range from 100 to 10000). But it can be "genuine" with many women, much as any place on earth. It still boggles my mind how many claimed expats who've been here for 10 plus years can't comprehend this... Or speak any Thai besides "Sawadee Krab".
  23. Let's start at the beginning... How much was the simsod... Then we can conduct a rudimentary cost benefit analysis of the situation. Though I don't see a situation where long term leasing beats short term rentals.
  24. The conversion to open air party BS started around 2013... so just over ten. YOU may have memories from 20 which you prefer over those from 10... but from it's inception to just over ten years ago it was a perfectly fine place to hang out. Now it's to "the hobby" what Khao San Road is to "backpacking". Essentially one group is to "blame" for starting it - but everyone kind of went with it for one reason or another... and now it's a place best avoided except by those with more money than sense.
