  1. Together with our BYD - there were 5 cars hooked up for charging.
  2. Affirmative - it is sort of a single purpose wallet. See payment methods below........ not sure how common Alipay is in Thailand?
  3. I disagree - 30 - 40 minutes charging time is an issue once the novelty wears off, especially compared to a Diesel SUV that runs for 800 km and is refueled in around 5 - 7 minutes. Just for giggles, I went downtown to check on a new 'Spark' EV charging installation advertised as 200 kW. 8 stalls, very user friendly due to the pre-paid function: plug-in, QR scan - charging starts. The battery was at 48%, max charging was 80 kW. This got to be a joke, and a bad one at that! Maybe Thailand is a trail-blazer in EV charger density, but if charging speed is maxed out at such low power levels, people will not switch to BEV's! 150 kW reliably, regardless of how many stalls are occupied, and we can talk. If this is not possible, the enthusiasm for BEV's will very quickly sour for the average Joe.
  4. Watch and weep....... the Chinese software is much more advanced and useful than what we get! Or another one - when do we get NFC for unlocking? https://youtu.be/g4u4f2EFGqQ?si=7-AFWtOMxrBtJJ30
  5. How to make the Seal Performance into a mileage champ:
  6. I agree - HEV's are a marketing tool at best. I remember on HWY's in CA, the carpool lane was crowded with Prius'es sailing down the road at 70 MPH - there was absolutely no benefit whatsoever for the hybrids....... alas, they were permitted to use the carpool lane as single occupant vehicles, and that made them immensely popular. Of course, in the owners twisted logic, they claimed stellar fuel efficiency, which is absolutely not the case. What helped the Prius fuel efficiency was light weight, skinny tires specially designed for low consumption, small, fuel efficient engine, and good aerodynamics - all attributes that could be done on a regular car, too. For stop and go traffic in cities, hybrids do have tangible benefits. Oh - I almost forgot, 'Prius' was also code for slow moving cars...... so any car on the road that held up a Sunday canyon run for us car crazies was called 'Prius' - even if it was a Porsche or Ferrari. 🤪🤣
  7. That brings tears to my eyes....... my cumulative is 18 kWh/100 km (6,100 km total) The last 50 km is just for teasing, it yoyo's up and down, I could never make out what exactly is calculated there. But you are right, the second motor is a very expensive toy - but isn't that the very definition of big boys toys..........lol
  8. Stop complaining - at least you get over 500 km of range, with the AWD model only a female driver will get over 450 km 🤪 On a more serious note - what is your total kWh/100 km reading?
  9. That's the hilarious part - western car companies sketch their dreams and hope to build something in 5 years, and in the meantime Chinese companies (e.g. Xiaomi) go from zero to build a factory and 100,000 vehicles in less than 3 years.......... I am not defending or hyping Chinese cars - I am just stating the obvious......... there is a new sheriff in town!
  10. BYD Seal AWD: Another trip to BKK, total distance run: 425 km; remaining battery: 7% or 35 km - so realistically, the max range is 450 km max. (my wife would probably do +5%) Parameters: 95% of time 2 people, about 25 km with 3 on board. Temperature: outside of BKK and suburbs, around 34C, in the city 37C (per BYD gauge) speed outside city: max 120 km/h, most of the time around 110 to 115; driving mode setting: normal Conclusion: the range is OK, but I would not want to have any less; the non AWD model is the more sensible selection....... but could I really live without the ooommp on occasion? 😁 On a totally different subject: Am I the only one who finds the 'two blink' one touch turn signal very odd, if not to say nonsense? I have had this feature on every car going back over 20 years, all car had 3 blink one touch turn signals.......... what's up with BYD? Are all BYD models like this?
  11. You are charging at 500 kW super-charging stations? Thought so.......... 🤣 I once went to a 150 kW DC fast charger, the cable was already quite hefty, so a 500 kW water cooled cable is probably pretty nutty. This is a sample: at 400 V and 500 A it's 200 kW at 800 V and 500 A it's 400 kW at 1,000 V and 500 A it's 500 kW
  12. I agree with your take on EV's, except for the fast- or super-charging bit. It is much more important to have a dense network of chargers, than the ultra high charging speeds. Moreover, going at it with much over 200 kW brings with it a truckload of problems, especially if the charge station holds multiple stations. If you have 20 bays charging at 500 kW you need a small powerplant close by, not to mention that each charger needs to be water cooled, including the cables......... and good luck for the ladies hauling a 20 Kg charging cable around, broken finger nails and all 🤣
  13. Interesting test results by a Chinese outlet (Dongchendi) on CLTC vs. actual range for some models sold in China, what is especially curios are the significant variations between models, i.e. from below 20% to almost 40% loss. No details were given about test parameters, so it is not possible to evaluate the test conditions and how they might have affected the result.
  14. If they make it to Thailand, prices In Thailand will be significantly higher, because Xiaomi has no plans to build a factory in Thailand, which removes some incentives the Thai government gave companies like BYD and Deepal etc. But in China this will have an impact - in an already very crowded segment of EV models. From what I read, Xiaomi has their sights on Europe as they compare their top model with the likes of the Porsche Tycan.
  15. Xiaomi SU7 was introduce with prices this evening, and they rock! Converted from Chinese prices to THB: 'official price in China for the starting model 1.16 million baht, and Pro and Max models will be 1.24 - 1.52 million baht. 50,000 orders in 27 minutes after accepting orders. https://carnewschina.com/2024/03/28/xiaomi-su7-launched-with-830-km-range-starts-at-29900-usd/
  16. I suppose some day you will notice that the UK is no longer in the EU....... at least not for the time being. Battery degradation uncertainty might just not be the right counter EV argument - HV battery SOH can actually be determined very accurately with the right diagnostic tools. I seriously doubt that many EV's have been bought because the buyer wants to contribute to the 'safe the planet' gospel, sure some did, but for most the reasons are very different. It seems to me what brought on the craze are the incentives in various forms - e.g. in Beijing getting a plate for an ICE is next to impossible and only by lottery, EV's get them instantly........etc. If incentives are removed on a large scale - like Germany just did - the EV segment will fall on hard times, but that could be the reason Germany with a badly struggling EV industry did it? I have an EV for technical reasons. The financial incentive was also not too shabby. I also do not think the world will go EV within a few years as mostly Tesla stock holders are betting on. But I also think EV's are here to stay, the cat is out of the bag, and it is fun to drive an EV - maybe take off the blinders and give it a try? As for your desire to inhale the exhaust fumes of the modded pick-up trucks belching black Diesel smoke by the truckload - enjoy!
  17. You must be driving down-wind, down-hill all the time.......... my cumulative AEC shows 18.1 kWh/100 km 🤣
  18. The motors are not the problem..... your right foot is..........lol
  19. Really? Most American muscle cars were sedans parading as sports cars, with 2 tons of an iron clump under the hood, redlining at 4500 RPM.........lol Trust me, I had one - a T/A 455 SD no less, quick for the times, no breaks to speak of, and would be run off the road by most lowly electrical car today. But hey, we were all kids at some point, but most of us moved on, had real jobs, maybe even family......... but not all did 🤪
  20. You just made this up, right? or maybe I misread........... ..........'as BYD is not able to talk to your EV' - how exactly do you think you get information about your car on your BYD app? or turn your AC on or off? BYD could very well do the OTA update without WIFI, why they chose not to is anybody's guess, maybe they are afraid to be hassled when using the network data plan? That would not be a problem for most - in my case, I use less than 20% of the 2GB monthly data allocation.
  21. Its obvious to me (by the 3.8 sec acceleration capability and the max power reading of 390 kW)) that the car is essentially 4WD, but not in all conditions. I would think that BYD has tested the snow scenario, too - how this slipped by their testing for the final product is unbelievable. Maybe it's just an export problem? But as one commenter pointed out - maybe the car will start to under steer more if the patch is not properly tuned?
  22. I saw on YT that 'down-under' they got a new OTA to 2401, I am still on 2310 - what SW version are you guys on? link to the clip:
  23. I agree - the car is way 'under-tired', but I suppose the focus was on maximizing the driving range. On FB are lots of wheel-tire upgrade comments, the bigger combos are around 255's on 20 inch wheels. However, the loss of range penalty is massive. Moreover, the wheels I have seen on most of the upgrades are probably not adequate for the heavy car - there is a reason the OEM wheels weigh a ton! I plan on consulting a local tire expert on whether the OEM wheels will accommodate a 245 tire - its not much, but every bit counts. I think the OEM wheels are 8" wide, and the 245 is ideal on 9" - if the wheels are 8.5", I would try the 245's. As for the traction control cutting in so hard - the trade off would be a softer take off, but I suppose with that solution everybody would complain the car is not snappy enough.........lol I take it you have the iTAC turned on? Have you experimented with iTAC off? Idiot_driver.mp4
  24. Does anybody else follow this company on FB? Quite impressive what they do with their EV tear downs to become a 3rd party service center. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095486864026 Interesting tidbit on BYD: although BYD is known for being heavily vertically integrated, they don't shy away from using 3rd party systems (this one is the Atto 3) even more strange is that they marry ZF and their own sub-assembly together. And for the haters: ZF is a well known, high quality German company - how does that fit into the narrative of cheap Chinese cars? 😇
  25. Couple of questions: 1. Do the retaining holes of the driver side floor mat fit and clip into place? in my case, the floor mat holes are too small and cant clip into the pins, so the mat constantly moves. 2. Do your cars make a 'farting noise' around 150km/h? I read this in a few forums on FB, so it seems to be pretty common. Cant believe in this day and age this could happen, although one guess is that the airflow is so maxed out to get to the cd 0.219, it probably takes next to nothing to lose the optimized air flow somewhere....... my guess is the leading edge of the roof glass. 3. Do you follow the charging instructions per manual? always to 100%? and 10 to 100% every couple months? Because I charge from solar, I prefer to charge just for a few hours every day, but maybe that is not ideal.........
