Isn't that what you are doing?

Mate, considering what you wrote earlier............

You started it.  You wrote an ad hominem attack on one of my posts saying that I made you sick.  No one is forcing you to personally insult me.  But if you do expect a response.  I don't why you go out of your way to insult older gentlemen.

Show me the post in which I attacked you.

Show me the post in which I personally insulted you.

There are 100 members of my VFW club of older gentlemen.  We fund orphanages and host an active duty American military unit when they are in Thailand play in big money charity golf tournaments and bury friends at sea when they die.  Most of the fellows have good incomes from military pensions and cash saved.  My wife was jealous that I get birthday and New Years cards from Bangkok bank and she doesn't.  I can understand your point of view.  I wouldn't hang out with you.  So I imagine you don't meet many normal expat retirees.

    Look, I get it

You really want to tell everyone that you're still useful, virile and relevant but I'm sorry, I'm not even remotely impressed.

I've far more respect for the old fella who just gets on with enjoying his retirement, goes about his business with his women or wife or whatever and keeps himself to himself

Sitting on an anonymous forum trying to piss higher up the wall than younger guys makes no sense whatsoever to me.

I presume a young Korean, running a business, presumably paying taxes, employing locals, and possibly having suppliers or supplying over firms who themselves employee people etc etc. He also lives here and spends here like you on top of the business as well as having money to send back.

I think people like him are doing far more for the country than some farang just bringing in a few thousand baht a month and perhaps spending a bit on rent and every day expenses. I know which the Government would prefer.

    Oooo careful!

He won't like that barrage of cold, hard facts.

He's got a delusion to maintain

One of the reasons that Thailand does so well in terms of infrastructure (and people retiring and tourism) is the large amount of foreign reserves flowing into the country.  Let me give you an example.  I have a young Korean friend who owns a small business in Thailand and sends a million baht from Thailand back to Korea every year.  I bring a million baht in from America and spend it in Thailand every year.  More retired guys like me and less young guys like my Korean friend is good for the country economically.   So the old fellows are one of the reasons more people come to live in Thailand rather than the shithole countries surrounding it.

People come here because of old boys??!!

    Ridiculous

They come in spite of them.

No actually, that's not entirely true.

I've seen many younger expats pointing and laughing at old boys with their rentals.

Sorry but chowing down at Tesco food courts don't make your demographic big spenders.

The truth is that most of you are counting pennies

80,000 foreigners living in Vietnam and about 1 million living in Thailand.  Draw your own conclusions mate.

Living and working in Vietnam = over 100,000

Retiring? - very few as there's no specific retirement visa option - thank God

The reason Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam have so few expats living there and the infrastructure is so poor is the Communist takeover in the 1960's that didn't happen in Thailand.  I think few people including you know anything about the history of South East Asia 40 years ago so I agree with you that no one cares about the sacrifices some made to keep Thailand out of the poor Communist block.

    Oh mate, I don't care.

I'm not impressed that you've been here 30 years

I don't care about the price of prostitutes in the frickin' Philippines

Las time I was in Vietnam I saw plenty of expats but they were mostly young and making a contribution; not one foot in the grave and bitching about visa guidelines

and the exhorbitant cost of a pint and a prostitute

  8. Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam I did not fight for.  Which neighboring country to Thailand would you rather live in?  One of the reasons so many xpats live in Thailand and don't want to move to a neighboring country are a direct result of the attempted Communist takeover of Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand in the 1960's.  Thailand was the only country to escape the fate of its neighbors thanks to many Americans.  Read a bit before you attack other posters.

You don't half talk shi' ite!

You just pull these nuggets of daftness out of thin air and your brain rubber stamps them as genuine fact, right?

These people don't give a rat's ass about communists in the 60s. They don't move because prostitutes are less ubiquitous and medical care is piss poor.

I can only assume you never really enjoyed it much to say that.

From reading the posts of two others on here, I think I must have been extraordinarily fortunate with my partners in LOS.

    Everyone's different, mate

Maybe what you regard as a great bedroom session would be considered tame by others

You say you had some sort of sexual epiphany when you started with Thai chicks and that's fine

To many, they're pretty for sure but that's about as far as it goes

Serious question. If someone has done something that was immensely satisfying, and extremely pleasurable, why would they be prepared to give it up if they still had the opportunity to do so?

I've never wanted to give up anything I enjoyed in my entire life.

Smokers say the same thing, mate, but when they stop, they realise they've been drug addicts their whole lives.

Who says I've given it up?

I'm just fine in that regard, thanks for your concern

Unlike some, I just don't behave like a starving man who's just seen a Big Mac.

But wanting sex is normal, I don't know of any man that wouldn't have sex every day if it were easily available.

    LOL!

That's because you were denied regular sex for decades when you were married.

In the meantime, other guys - myself included - were inundated with women our age who wanted sex as much if not more than we did.

It's easily available here but it's easy to say "no" when you've had a lifetime of indulgence

Now you are trying to drag me and others down to your level. No thanks ThaiRon, you've placed  yourself into that lower berth.

    You're already there, mate.

I could easily pull out a few posts in which you've made judgmental statements about others' lifestyles or life choices so careful when you climb down off that steed

  13. 19 hours ago, smotherb said:

Just a bit judgemental aren't you? If he is single and enjoys the company of a beautiful lass in his bed; what business is it of yours? If she is willing and he can rationalize the money for pleasure formula, what is the problem?  I have always felt your retirement years were best used doing what you like to do as long as you can. Some men have wives and family around them in their sunset years, others are single and still have a party or two left in them. Of course, being financially secure and reasonably healthy is the key which allows you to choose. The worst of all worlds are those who spend their retirement living as cheaply as possible and forgoing what they need or would rather be doing.

Yes, I am judgmental but no more so than you or any other human being who makes judgments of varying degrees of importance each and every day

so I ain't going to make any apologies for my comments.

Do you know how much gold is in Thai grannies underwear drawer?  Do you know what happened to the Swiss Franc?  No of course not.  (On Wednesday one euro was worth 1.2 Swiss francs; at one point on Thursday its value had fallen to just 0.85 francs. A number of hedge funds across the world made big losses. The Swiss stockmarket collapsed.) Maybe you should look into what happened to the Thai economy in 97 the how and why and where it is now.

Mate, first you assumed I didn't know that most Thais are Buddhists (in another thread) and now you're making another erroneous assumption that I'm unfamiliar with what happened in this region in 1997.

With all due respect, given how out of touch you are on so many other things, you'll forgive me if I don't pay much mind to your attempts to "educate" me

Given that this thread has deviated into the usual subject, it might be better in Farang Pub sub forum.

Sorry but weren't you the one who added to the deviation (initiated by "amvet") by introducing the "dying in bed with a prostitute" as being your ideal way to go?

This is Thai Visa and a Thai forum.  Why would people who live in other countries be posting on Thai Visa?

What kind of question is that?

Do you actually think before you type?

There are probably more members who live in the West than there are who actually live in Thailand.

It's not just for people who live here - it's for those who visit regularly too.

Of course it is. Best way ever to go out.

I certainly don't want to spend my last years living in the hell of a rest home wishing I was in LOS with a beautiful lass in my bed.

To attempt to conform to the OPs wishes, I've been to other Asian countries and have no desire to live in countries where I don't have the option of waking up with a beautiful lass in my bed.

Well I wouldn't expect anything else from someone who evidently doesn't give a toss about the poor girl whose in bed with you at the time of your demise.

Moreover, I think it's incredibly sad that someone chooses where they live based on its proximity to a brothel.

Congratulations, mate........you got life SO right
