If you live in Phetchabun city try the private hosptal Phetcharat,  they are supposed to have a skin specialist there.

I live in the south of the province and use another private hospital, Mittraparp Memorial Hospital in Saraburi.

In 2020 I had a basil cell carcinoma removed, six visits to their skin department,  initial consultation, biopsy, operation, stitches removed final check etc.  The costs around 37K Baht in all.

The specialist holds the clinics in the evening as he comes up from Bangkok.  As some were late nights wifey and I would stay in el cheapo hotel and drive back next day.

Thanks, I know that hospital and have used them for other things in the past.  I will check there.  I did ask a local dermatologist,  but not at the hospital,  she advised me to go to Bangkok.  I made the assumption she would know about other options in the area.  I will stop by on my way home and ask about the skin clinic.

    Thanks

Experience with skin cancers is extremely limited in Thailand. Thsi applies to both dermatologists and pathologists (who interpret the biopsies)

Best advice I can give for Bangkok is to go to the government derm institute

But retain a healthy degree of scepticism and if the lesion does nto resolve consider seeking care in your home country

Wow, not really the answer I expected,  but thank you for the information.  I live up in Phetchabun and no one up there seemed to have a good idea.

Sheryl, I think I have read over the years that you are in Chiang Mai.  While doing and internet search before posting my question I found a link to Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai advertising a "medical dermatology clinic."  It mentions checking for skin cancer.  Have you any information about Chiang Mai?

BTW, I have appreciated your grounded advice about medical topics over the years.  This is the first time I have chimed in to a discussion with you.  Keep up the good work and thanks.

OP, a couple of things are unclear , firstly, who currently owns or will be paying for the adjacent land and house ?

If you have a grand desire to own this property, and the older thais have a grand desire to gift you a property, why not put it in a company name etc, the way lots of foreigners do.

Otherwise, if you inherit a property (not set up in a company), you would be required to sell it within a set time frame, usually one year.

Sorry for any confusion.   I am not sure if it makes a difference to question though.

The adjacent property is currently for sale.   Mom has suggested that she'll buy the land with her money and I would pay for the house..

I don't think either of us have a "grand desire " in regard to this situation.  I personally have not been keen on building or buying a house in Thailand because of the rules around land ownership.   I do own a condo because I could put it in my name.

As for the company option, I know it exists but has it own issues.   Tax filings here in Thailand.   Share ownership reporting for US taxes (not required for personal ownership of foreign property) . Not to mention the occasional talk of cracking down on Thai nominees in a company structure in order to "own" land.  I am not saying I wouldn't do it but it is not my preferred method.

It is good to hear that you think that a clause in the will would not be invalid and that there would be time to sell the property.   I am a long way from trying to make this happen but my mom was talking about buying the property last week when I went up to see her.  I told her not to, but mom is head strong.

  5. So, if I were to build a home like this I would retain a lawyer.  This is just a general question to see if anyone has heard of this before.

    Background:

Over the years I have become good friends with an older Thai couple .  They call me son and I call them mom and dad.  They both are Thai born and raised but lived in the Staes for more than 30 years.  I am also friends,  not romantically,  with their daughter, she is about my age.  They have more money and property than I would ever hope to dream of.  In other words, they don't need my money.  There is more than enough to provide for extended relitive as well.  The daughter will inherit most of the assets.

    Situation:

The older couple moved to a nice secluded place in the mountains about an hour away.  They are going to build a nicer home there.  They want me to build a house an an adjacent piece of property.   Given the location this is tempting to me but I clearly have reservations.   Mom says the land would be in her name but I could have a lease, usafuct , or separate the land and home.  She doesn't really care.  Her daughter also is okay with the arrangement.

I have discussed the possibility of transferring the land to a future wife and both the mother and daughter have voiced no issues with the idea.

Mom says she wants to put the property in her will and give it to me.  I have heard that if a foreigner is married to a Thai and the Thai dies leaving property to the foreigner then the foreigner has a year to sell or transfer the property.   I guess the equivalent of disposing of an asset while it is in probate (Imperfect example).

    Questions:

Can a non-related, non-Thai inherent property for a limited period of time?

If this is permitted,  how long would you have to sell/transfer the property?

If this is not permitted,  will the clause cause the property to be argued over in court?  If this is the case, then willing it to her daughter seems like a better idea.

Please excuse grammar and spelling issues, I am on my phone in a coffee shop and don't have my glasses.

  6. I Just got off a flight from Manila to Bangkok (cebu pacific).  On every flight I had going to and traveling around the Philippines masks were required for all passengers to be worn during the whole flight.  The gate staff would ask everybody as they showed their boarding passes if they had a mask to wear, (if not already wearing one).  Masks not required in the airport.

The announcements on the plane said the Philippines required masks on all public transportation.   That being said....

There were a few people that did not wear the mask over their nose and mouth.  I saw flight attendants look at these people and never did they ask the person to wear their mask.

Also almost nobody on the islands I visited were wearing masks unless they were working.  I assume it was required by their employer,  (maybe a government regulation)

Also almost no one wore masks on busses or Jeepneys, and I spent a lot of time on thoses.

In short the planes were the only place I was told that masks were required and the only place any significant number of people were wearing them.

  7. No, I only took a picture of the one sticker.

That is a good theory.   These four bikes could have been a Honda promotion that they took around to show off the new model. They all had aftermarket tires so I was thinking something else but maybe honda put the dirt tires on for some off road demonstrations.

I still wonder if they are going to sell them.

  8. Pardon any spelling mistakes, I am typing on my phone without my glasses.

I was at a Honda Big Wing in Bangkok a couple of days ago.  I wanted to look a 2022 model cb500x.  They didn't have any at the dealership so I started looking around.  Outside there werr a lot of used motorcycles, most of which I think were owned and in for service but there were four cb500x bikes that all had the same aftermarket equipment on them.  It looked like they came from a motorcycle touring company but that is just a guess.  I inquired inside and the person said that Big Wing only sells new motorcycles but couldn't tell me what would become of these.

If I was to guess they were either repossessed for non payment or were end of lease returns. But they were all 2022 models.  I took a picture of the sticker that was on one of the motorcycles and will attach it to this post.

My question is, does anyone know what happens to these bikes?  How will they be sold?  If at a dealer auction, is there a way to have a dealer try and buy a particular bike?  If so does anyone know contact details for them?

I think this is a long shot but I kind of liked the way the bikes were set up.  If I could get a dealer to pick one up for a fee that might be something I am interested in.20220808_193924.jpg.4d83370a1ffa8fa4ab31646587fd0d43.jpg

Why would you need to "re-register" your address.

    Assume you mean file TM30.

That would not be required if returning on same visa or reentry permit.

TM6 was temporarily suspended on July 2.

It would not be required for 90 day report etc.

Having returned to Thailand in June with a reentry permit on a valid Non-O extension, I was given a tongue lashing by Phetchabun immigration for not reporting back to the condo I have lived in for five years.  I went to immigration a week after returning to phetchabun after spending a few days in Bangkok at a hotel that did file my stay with Immigration.

They wanted to know why I didn't come to immigration within the required 24 hours of returning to Thailand.  I pointed out the hotel stay, they could see that but then wanted to know where I was after leaving the hotel.  I told them my condo.  They kept insisting I had to go to immigration within 24 hours.  I apologized many times and told them I forgot.  I mentioned that i returned to the same address as before.  It didn't matter.

Anyway, I guess I am saying (like many others), it all depends on the office you are dealing with.

  10. I used CVS also.  I have used them twice and received the results the next day both times.  No cost with insurance.  I guess the only issue is they don't guarantee the time frame but it hasn't been a problem for me and one of the times that I did the test cases were surging.  I had a bit of difficulty trying to find a CVS that had open appointments at the time I was traveling.  It made me worry about the turn around time but it wasn't a problem in the end.

They also have "dual pricing" for out of state US students attending public universities that are not in their own state.

I am not sure if this was your point or not but the big difference is dual pricing as I have seen it in the States is based on whether or not you are paying taxes to the government that is subsidizing the service.  I.e. out of state tuition is for people that haven't paid to support the University.  This is why paying more at national parks might make sense but a hotel and private hospital aren't receiving government money (?).  But in the States if you are a resident even if you are a not citizen you are not paying the higher rate.

Before anyone says it, I know for universities moving to a state for the purpose of attending school doesn't qualify you for in state tuition.. But that is a sort of a special case.  If you moved for other reasons then you are a resident for tuition purposes after the time period set in law.

  12. If you can get it to work for you I would be interested in how.  I have been to multiple vaccination sights and the local MoPH office no one has been able to get me registered for the app.  I have the ID card number, passport number, vaccine certificate number, Thai and foreign telephone number.

We have tried every combination you can think of and just keep saying in Thai that it is the incorrect number.

    Hi,

If you renewed your student visa last september how can your your student visa issued by your university expired after 3month? normally a student visa is good for 1year. ? are you sure about it, I mean it sounds to me you only missed your 90day report and your student visa is still ok?

I think because his passport expired and immigration only gave him permission to stay until that date.  I could be reading it wrong.
