  1. That's exactly why I cancelled a few holidays away from home. Not wanting to get into trouble with "late" and different TM.30 reports... Well done, Thailand!
  2. So the survey found out that, thanks to students reading their assigned textbooks, reading "on average" isn't doing so badly... That's like saying each New Zealander has 5 sheep and 2 cows grazing at home in the front-yard, or that each and every Thai has bank deposits of 255,000 baht (all deposits divided by 70 million)...
  3. Randomly spending large sums of money in a short time for low-quality goods and services...
  4. Yes, OPEC could learn from them how drilling can be faster, unattached from the environment, and more profitable...
  5. Invest in infrastructure and transportation (not just in Bangkok), get rid of overcharging, scams, and taxi mafias. Train personnel in foreign languages and customer service, etc, etc. - Why should one travel to 'second-tier cities' if quality of basically everything away from Bangkok and the few costal spots is 'poor' and inadequate for foreign tourists? Not to mention 30- and 90-day reports one has to worry about when travelling to other places...
  6. That too. LOL. Most of the chicks want short-time now, cause they have their l**** Thai boyfriend or husband waiting at home...
  7. 555 That's old news. After all, they got rid of the snowbirds many years ago, before giving preference to group tours from China and India. Obviously, they never figured out that expats and snowbirds leave more money in the country than one-week, one-time Chinese tourists...
  8. Not to mention the Thais that are involved in the scam centers based in Shan State.
  9. Most of Asia is corrupt, even Singapore. Few exceptions (Japan, South Korea?, Taiwan? ...)
  10. Refuse to pay Immigration fees? Yeah, that will work... I protested though, telling them the one who was supposed to do it according to Thai law, my landlady, had outright refused to do it. I had even done it online by myself instead, but it wasn't accepted (even though it had been accepted online!) But they weren't interested, but just wanted to charge me as the tenant. I was actually there to do my 90-day report, so, yes, screwed either which way. Fortunately, I have left Thailand recently. Will probably stay less than 90 days in the future each time. Good riddance, Thailand...
  11. It's all about taking advantage of foreigners. When my landlady refused to file a TM.30 about me, I was the one who got fined at Immigration, while the IO gave a rat's a** about the (Thai) person who was required by law to file such a report. I'm very sure that my landlady wasn't and won't be fined one baht. TiT!
  12. It's all about money, few rights, and ripping foreign employees off in Thailand.
  13. Not to mention that illegal Thai workers in other countries are given cute labels like 'little ghosts' in Thai media, while illegal workers in Thailand are punished heavily as 'criminals' and 'criminal gangs'...
  14. One can (mostly) avoid that by looking at the bill(s) as soon as they arrive. Fortunately, people tried to rip me off as soon as I set foot in Thailand the very first time. Having never been to a developing country before, I learnt my lesson quickly, which helped me later, not just in Thailand, but also other countries. Hardly ever had a problem in bars, as the staff sees me looking at the bill when it arrives, so they don't even try to paddle my bills...
  15. A 'Western engineer'? What happened to the term 'dirty falang'?
  16. If these numbers are true, then they should really get worried about deflation...
  17. Hope, by that time there will still be Thais (and other humans) on this planet...
  18. Not to worry, there's always the influential Thai taxi mafia with their untouched meters...
  19. It's all about the perception. Traveller: "I can afford living abroad for months at a time." - Thai IO: "This can't be right. I only get 1 week holiday per year. And my savings are hardly enough to buy a bottle of Lao khao... How come, foreigners can come here so many times?"
  20. Lock up this hardened criminal and throw away the key! And ban him for life... 😬 (As there is no mention of either, how long that "criminal" overstayed, or when he had arrived, I presume it was less than a week overstay. Anyway, this will teach those pesky foreigners to stay 'too long'... 😝)
  21. They probably want to sell you suits at their tailor shop. Other such patterns are saying: "You're a lucky man", or: "Come to my shop for free fries."
