No tv or internet bills? Okay. That's pretty rare these days. I do.

I don't watch TV even though there is one in the house, it never gets turned on. And I pay the internet directly at 3BB or in 7/11

And what guarantee is there that mail will actually get as far as the PO box before it goes missing? I'm talking about ordinary mail, such as bills. We never, ever receive bills that are sent and simply go to whoever and ask how much is owing and pay it. Pathetic.

You don't receive bills? The only bill I get is the water and electricity bill, which is slipped into the mailbox every month. I don't have any other bills to pay

  3. I got myself the PO box a couple of months ago, great decision. I was able to purchase a 1st edition book without worrying if the pesky mailman would steal it.
I have been sending things back home to England for Christmas last month, and I sent tracking items, but not the most expensive choice, and things arrived within 5-7 days which is really quite fast

I agree global warming is real. But it is egotistical to believe it is all caused by man.

I think of it like this
When you stand outside and feel the burn on your skin, the blinding light in your eyes, most people forget that it's a huge ass burning ball of energy doing all of that. Like if you sit next to a camp fire, you can feel the heat on your skin and the light in your eyes. Yet this is a ball of burning matter many millions of miles away, and yet it has even greater affects on everything than a camp fire.

But also that camp fire over time will get stronger and weaker, stronger and weaker. This happens from moment to moment with flickering flames, hot spots etc. The sun is no different, and operates in many non formal cycles. I feel this is just one of the cycles where the sun is pumping out more energy than prior to recent years

in bangkok, sukhumvit/asoke area, it has been quite hot.  for the last 10 days or so, the temp has been 32-34C.  but the 'feels like' temp has been 39-41C from roughly 11am to 4pm.  i've been checking it every day.  i don't remember a november like this in the last 10 years.  today is the first day where the 'feels like' temp tops out at 36C.  i walk around the area alot during the day and it isn't pleasant at 39C+.

It literally feels like Songkran some days here in HH!
I remember a few years ago it dropped down to around 20C degrees on a November, and I had to wear socks to bed as I'd become used to the temperatures and climate here over a few years!

My Long John's are gathering a musty smell in the wardrobe.

All the little DIY household repair jobs that I had been saving up for the cool season would now keep a platoon of engineers busy for a week.

29C indoors and hotter than the surface of the sun outside.

    Global warming....its real !!

Even our 5 dogs stay under the house in the shade until 5 pm.

This is in lower Petchabun. Probably cooler in the north of the province.

I looked online at Chiang Mai weather, and it seems to be around 30-32 in the day, which is pretty hot for this time of year, and, and more so for Chiang Mai!

  7. In the 8 and a bit years that I've lived in Thailand, October and November have never been this hot and humid. Normally I relish and look forward to these months, as they obviously should provide some respite. But this year in HH it hasn't really let up at all, still up in the low to mid 30s day in day out!
Are things normal where you're living??

Because people with cancer on chemo need to eat?  Thailand has had good medical care for awhile - a long-standing Royal project.  If you want people to survive cancer-treatment, this is a wise move - because it is effective.

Anyone who wants to smoke weed would be much better off vacationing/living in Latin America or maybe Cambodia.  Thailand has not changed its attitudes/laws in a way that would in any way make it attractive to pot-smoking visitors - nor do I see any signs that authorities are in any way enamored with that "class" of visitors.

I am all for medical cannabis and full legalisation actually. But it is quite obvious that the government stands to make a lot of money from this, and it's a prime opportunity for investors to cash in. Actually, the main investments have been restricted to specific Thai nationals only, at least initially, and medical cannabis stands to be a huge booming industry before long.
Thailand making it legal for medical use, and being the first to do so in SE Asia, means they we attract a lot of investment and business, insofacto the economy is helped along.
People won't be flocking here to smoke weed, that isn't what I suggested. But is is easy to see the trickle down effect from making medical weed legal in terms of boosting the economy. Also it gives Thailand a more modern image which is always a nice bonus.

Yes.  Anyone talking to those who working in jobs that benefit from Western tourism will tell you what a huge train-wreck immigration has created in their industry.  Only those bamboozled by "official statistics" or who have a vested-interest in staving-off a tourist-related industry bear-market, would tell you any differently.

Why do you think they've VERY swiftly made cannabis legal for medical use. It isn't because they care about the health and well being for the people, it is a nice way to earn big bucks and become the first to do it in SE Asia. They know that their reputation and tourist attractiveness is dwindling, so this is like a get out of jail free card for them

    Wow!

Tourism numbers and revenues must be taking one hell of a hit to do this; it is a refutation of everything the Junta has been doing or saying for years.

There is a great deal more to this story; I am looking forward to finding it out.

I keep saying this, because my Thai gf works in tourism here, yet when I bring it up I get donks linking me to government online statistics that paint a picture that everything is hunky-dory

What you quote was an automated response, because the precise term cannabis oil is nto on the FDA list. Please note subsequent posts with specific response, by email, from the FDA itself. CBD oil is currently illegal in Thailand.

Once the bill next month passes making actual cannabis oil legal for medical use by certain people, what will that mean for CBD oil, which contains trace - nil amounts of THC? Would the punishments still remain the same for importing CBD?

    2 things

First the sender has to initiate if there is a problem not the receiver.

Second, in my experience,, the issue is often the Postman not the Post Office. Get yourself a PO Box at the local office and I doubt you will have any issues in future.

    PO box, great idea thanks!

  13. I have never really had issues with receiving mail from over seas since being here from 2010, but recently I have. There have been 3 separate packages from abroad that haven't arrived here, all of which didn't have tracking (2 of those were not my choice)
I've gone to the post office who have said they cannot do anything about it without a tracking number, so what can I actually do? It seems that someone is taking my mail and it's really frustrating seeng as I now don't have peace of mind to get anything sent to me anymore. I live in Hua Hin btw

I Have lived in worked for two companies Laos and two companies in LOS.

Based in VTE ...dirty, corrupt, expensive and becoming dangerous.  But some cultural history and events to enjoy.  Crime on Farangs increasing.  Police not as aggressive towards Farang as LOS , but never miss a chance to pocket some money.

Not uncommon for neighbor or hotel staff to turn you into police if gal in your room.. Police split the fine with them.

Once out of VTE, it is a different Country.  Nice, quiet, little bit more affordable...but increasingly austere as you get off the road.  Very sad to see what the Chinese are doing in NW part of Laos.  Overall, very little regard for the environment by Government.

Based in BKK...Not as dirty, still corrupt, becoming more expensive and can be dangerous if your not aware of ur surroundings.  I have been assaulted by taxi/tuktuk in both countries.  Development in LOS has little regard for environment.  I get mixed feelings about anti-farang in LOS then Laos.   I think just more Thai than Laos encounters, so great chance for discrimination.  Once out of the Cities, I have always had good encounters with Thai folks.

In SE Asia since 2011.   Long time Thai companion.

I've been to Vientiane I think 7 times now, I was there for 6 days this most recent trip, and I've never had any trouble whatsoever. I've heard about violence there, but literally have never seen or come across it. The city / town has always seemed very safe to me. And yeah I have made trips back from a bar at 11-12 to my hotel, walking. So maybe I've just been lucky? Not sure. I didn't find it any more dirty than most places in Thailand, a lot of the areas are very clean and polished actually. But there are very dirty areas much like in LOS. I did notice how few police were around, and how non-threatening and or overbearing they are.

Like you, I've stayed in Thailand for the majority of my time, so that says something. It would be nice to mix together aspects of both countries into one nation lol

i found the ops story interesting. im about to make my first visit to Laos, in two weeks time.

i DONT  agree that thais 'hate' farang..many thai women 'genuinely' prefer farang men....

sure, most of them see farang as a cash cow...

yes thai women are great liars----saving face teaches them that, from a very early age---such a pity..

I was actually referring to Thai guys more than Thai women. And by many I meant that it's a small % of the population, but even 1% of the nation equates to somewhere around 700,000 people
Enjoy your trip to Laos though, where exactly are you headed?

My wife is Laotian and we have a house about 20km from Pakse on the banks of the Mekong. Lovely but nothing to do there. The legal situation about marrying, work, and the fact we have a child, makes living in Thailand essential.

Sent from my SM-G930F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

I visited Pakse a couple of years back, mainly for visa / stamp purposes. For the entire time that I was there, I didn't see a single farang! It must have been around 4-5 hours, and it isn't too small of a town either. But you're right, there isn't much to do there at all. It felt very isolated and remote. Beautiful scenery though.

I appied the ED visa and they didn't ask me about the bank statement.

But person who have service to take photo and copy passport,  they asked me that you don't have study score paper from school and paper from police.

They said you will have problem because you don't have 2 paper.

Do you think did I need it or not?

    thank you

They are trying to make money from you. If you have your documents from your school, the school will have made sure to add all needed documents. In fact, 3 years ago one of the touts at the front of the consulate in Vientiane said I was missing a document and needed to pay I think 5,000 baht for him to get it for me. I decided not to and sure enough, I received my visa.
Basically if you have used a good enough school in Thailand, they will have given you all of the relevant documents

If you had lived in Laos 99 per cent of the time, and went to Thailand on a trip / holiday, I wonder if you would still say the same?

It's funny how a break from the norm can make us feel more positive about our surroundings in general.

That's a good point, visiting somewhere is different than actually living there. I've visited quite a few times though.
