I speculate that the govt could sack 1/4 of all govt workers across all sectors and still function properly. Its a classic walking into an amphor office, for example, and seeing so many people sitting around with empty desks.
I agree with the above but, as far as I know, manning levels are based upon the size of the Amphur. The police manning levels are worked out in the same way.

Peuple seen scared to use that number, no idea why.
'Peuple' shouldn't be, although I do get my missus to phone. The people are apparently very friendly and upfront. Just to make sure my wife gets the correct advice she'll wait and phone back later and ask the same question to a different operative to ensure the first one was honest. As we all know Thais are not always honest with the truth.

Why doesn't the OP contact the 'Help Line 1178' and get their view on the matter. Any advice on here isn't gonna help you, other than mine. Get proper advice now if you think you've been badly done by. Don't forget to ask for the name of the person on the 'Help Line 1178' who advised you.

They've been using used A4 paper, one side printed on, for years. There was someone that posted a few months back that immigration never returned to him any copies that he'd given to the officer surplus to requirement. He knows now where they went.

This is exactly the reason my wife and I have learned to NEVER ASK THEM ANYTHING as we have been given the wrong advice many times in the past only to show up again and be told that "we did not say that". It seems to be some sort of game that they are fond of.
Similar to what happened to me tuther year. On applying for my extension/visa the officer told me I didn't need photo's next year with my application as they could do it with the camera on their computer. When I didn't give the photo's as per normal I told him the officer, I pointed him out, who told me this. The officer denied saying it. Luckily my wife had some photo's and I used those.
My belief is that give they give misinformation to try to drop farangs in the do do. Resulting in tea-money being paid.

Did my 90 day report online tuther week. No problems then and none prior.

Fine that's good UJ but initially you was saying I was wrong due to an out of date link that you posted. Everything I've said/wrote on this matter is true and honest but all I get are some that because you didn't confirm it as being <deleted>. We all make mistakes.

My letter was on British Embassy headed paper and signed by a British consular official. I got it last year when I picked up my new passport from VFS.
Can you give us a link to that 'British headed paper'? Christ, I try to help and all I get is people trying to shoot me down because I go against what a certain mod says. Siht (anagram) I just feel like walking away and saying get on with it. UJ why don't you just admit you gave wrong info and put it to bed? Thanks.

I was referring to the requested letter that some IO do not require. It makes no difference if new or its a second passport, still same procedure to transfer the stamps
You need to rest your horse and sit and have a spliff.
Thanks again for confirming what I've been saying for nearly 4 pages. And you are right in that I'm needing that spliff. It comes from posting on this forum. Don't seem to get it on others.

I have not received a new passport, I have two passports and one is full.
So you didn't need to get a new passport as per what the thread is about? And you leave telling us that you have 2 passports until page 4? This forum just gets better.

Well found. Hopefully this puts the matter to bed!
Well found????? The link is 2014. Out dated.

2. Sign some forms they printed
3. Copy every page from my passport that was full, and 1 page from my 2nd passport.
4. Waited a couple of hours and all was completed free of charge.
Thank you for confirming what I've been saying for 3 pages.

No I'm not confused. I've said the same thing over and over again since dot one. Someone is confusing things by posting out dated links.

If indeed the letter you get from VFS global satisfies them that is fine. But certainly not the forms you previously linked to:
Which you sign yourself! That does not match what I saw used for Jomtiem, signed by a consular official, and having a UK Embassy letterhead.
Actually plenty. Many differences around the country.
It's not a ****ing letter, as such. It's a form which you have to fill out and give to immigration. You don't ****ing sign it. I don't care if that doesn't match Jomtien's office. The way I've informed you is the current way to do it at any office. Embassies do not get involved in passports anymore. It's done by VFS Global. Do you have learning difficulties by the way? I could write slower if it helps.

Because your experiences may not apply to other offices, and you are avoiding telling us where you did this. It would be very useful if you did, but alas, you believe all offices behave exactly the same.
What does it matter which office? If you go to any office just follow the procedure that I went through. Doing it that way, at any office, will get you through. Without being conned. Now you can thank me for being so helpful.

They required the supporting letter from my embassy
There is NO supporting letter. There is a form, supplied by VFS Global, that you fill in to give to your local immigration office. Who then will try and scam you for 500 Baht, to which you refuse to pay, and they end up doing it free of charge after telling them the immigration 'Help Line' says I don't have to pay.
Now if I'd been a certain Mod and I'd told you this then it would be gospel and all would be fine. But who am I? Only someone who did it a few days back and had the decency to come on here and be told I'm wrong. -

They tried to charge you?
Some offices do. Some offices don't. If they try it on just say the immigration 'Help Line' says there is no charge.
3 hours ago, jacko45k said:Why don't you do something useful and tell us where you performed this, then we know the requirements at that particular IO? Including the fact that they try to charge you, and if you stand firm you can avoid it.
It is the rules across the board. How's that for being helpful? If I'm wrong I'm sure some Mod would have corrected me by now. And If what I say is wrong I will undoubtedly apologise. But I'm sure I won't have to.

This is not what we were discussing. Immigration will require a supporting letter to make the transfer, to confirm in their mind this is a genuine new passport for the same person.
Immigration WILL NOT require a supporting letter. For Pete's sake I only went through the process less than a week ago. Your last post is also tosh. It's wrong information. Just cuz someone on TV posts it doesn't make it true. We all make mistakes. But in this case it's not me that made it.
The so called 'embassy letter' is a form that you personally fill out and give to immigration and is issued by VFS Global. How many times do I have to repeat this?
50 minutes ago, Orton Rd said:Pretty sure I downloaded this letter from a link on here four years ago, there was no need to get it signed.
You are correct it does not have to be signed. Not even by you after filling it in.
-
Exactly. Cuz the UK embassy, among others, no longer get involved in the issuing of passports.
-
You'll find the form on here https://www.thai-consulate.net/thai-forms No signature and no embassy letterhead.

I'm open to correction but I don't recall any personal signature by any consular official.

No it is not. It is issued from VFS Global. And it isn't a letter but an application form requesting your visa/extension stamp to be transferred from your old passport to your new one.

Which Embassy do I need the letter from?
None. Passports are issued through VFS in Thailand so go and get the letter there. Or maybe they issue them in the UK and you can get one at the same time you get your new passport.

Get off your moral high-horse. I personally like having an option to a bureaucratic nightmare even if that means petty-corruption. I don't know what rights you think you're protecting because you have none here.
After nearly 15 years of immigration officers trying to skank me I've had enough. You say I have no rights here. Well you are wrong there. We all have rights that's why they have help lines to assist in not being skanked. You seem to be the kinda person who, if an immigration officer asked 'give me your watch and let me pork your missus' you'd duly comply. God help us if we were all like you.
32 minutes ago, ubonjoe said:Nothing more than having a letter from the embassy.
The letter is now issued by VFS Trendy House when collecting ones new passport. Just a simple case of filling it out yourself before going to immigration.
