  1. I stock up on all kinds of good stuff to eat. I only go out in the car. Unlike alcoholics, who always seem to have no booze when it is an alcohol ban day, and whinge about the cruel world on ASEAN.
  2. Calls to Australia with Thai service providers such as TrueMove are quite cheap, I rarely spend more than 100 baht making appointments etc. For calls to friends, there are plenty of choices with a WiFi connection or data plan. I only use WiFi. There is WhatsApp, LINE, MEET and ZOOM. MEET and Zoom are probably best in terms of video quality.
  3. I can remember a portable BP monitor at a Chiang Mai dental clinic which gave the usual white coat reading, which had the staff in a flap. They calmed down when I pointed out the date on the calibration sticker on the back, which was more than 5 years old.
  4. My body won't have to move, the village has a crematorium. She also has a Thai lawyer to do the probate. We have enough in a joint account for her to live on for more than a year. I don't know what dealing with the Oz embassy entails, and don't particularly care either. Tell me what it is they do which is essential.
  5. I use a wrist monitor, it reads close to a doctor's instrument. I have severe white coat syndrome. I took a week's worth of readings to my local GP. Average 125/65. I am not on any blood pressure medication. In his presence, the wrist monitor read 184/ 95. His reading was 191/99. That does have me wondering how many doctors are prescribing BP medication unnecessarily.
  6. IMO my GF will not be fazed at all by the task, she has proved to me multiple times she can negotiate the intricacies of Thai officialdom. As for Australian bureaucracy, they can kiss my hairy butt.
  7. I have a friend in Chiang Mai who does an hour of gym work every morning without fail. Has done for many years. I would not say he is buff. However, he is 93 years old.
  8. Extrapolating longevity in mice to longevity in humans is hope, not fact. Every species reacts differently to inputs.
  9. Each to his own, I like the thought of resting in a place which has given me so much enjoyment over decades, and where I maybe watch over new generations of golfers.
  10. A funeral in my GF's village is about 30,000 baht, including monk rituals. I don't know how much of that is the actual cremation cost. It includes food for mourners. I have told my GF nothing fancy, whether she listens is another matter. I want my ashes scattered on any golf course, probably easier to do that in Australia. Here, the fear of ghosts is still a factor.
  11. Visa is more popular than Mastercard, market share is 48% vs 36%. Acceptance also varies by country. In the UK, Mastercard comes in third behind Visa and PayPal.
  12. I'd consider buying a beer at a bar, in exchange for getting access to a toilet, a cheap price to pay if I was caught short. I have yet to see a service station in Thailand which did not have free toilets. Actually, his body shape is disgusting. Waist is bigger than his bum by a good margin. I don't understand how people can let themselves go like that.
  13. I asked Gemini the question - is methamphetamine ( yaba ) addictive? Yes, methamphetamine is highly addictive. It's a stimulant drug that alters the way your brain processes reward and motivation. Methamphetamine use can lead to a powerful compulsion to use the drug again and again, even when it has negative consequences. Methamphetamine addiction can develop quickly, even after just one use. The risk of addiction is even higher for people who start using meth at a young age, who have a family history of addiction, or who have mental health problems. AI has its flaws. However, I think I'd put more trust in its information than yours.
  14. I'd suggest putting a PM 2.5 meter in the car as well, then the OP can see if the gadget actually makes a difference.
  15. Alcohol also removes inhibitions. What is unacceptable conduct when sober becomes acceptable.
  16. In your experience, what percentage of the prisoner population could be regarded as having above-average intelligence?
  17. Please cite crimes and violence committed under the influence of a couple of double shot espressos.
  18. The risks of combining alcohol with antibiotics are as follows: Increased side effects such as irritation of the stomach and intestines. It's why antibiotics are usually taken with or after food. Reduction of the effectiveness of the antibiotic, due to chemical interactions in the liver and kidneys.. Impede healing from trauma. There are several antibiotics which can actually increase the risk of hepatitis if mixed with alcohol. I suppose when a poster is an alcoholic, any excuse will be seized on to avoid abstinence.
  19. If your Mrs. is using yaba, in your shoes I'd be watching my back. It's well known for causing psychosis.
  20. 100% agree, same here. Same reason many Burmese seek work in Thailand, they earn three times what they can get in Myanmar. Rents in Australia may take about 60% of age pension income. In Thailand, it's less than 15%.
