This article begs two questions. The tourists having just arrived from the airport must be aware that they had baggage. How could they forget? The taxi driver should have noticed the luggage and returned to the hotel with it. Why wait until contacted by police?

With respect, for reference (basic):
Lotus Supercenters were set up and operated by the CP Group in 1994. In 1998 the British Supermarket chain Tesco took a stake to create Tesco Lotus. In 2003 CP Group sold most of its shares leaving Tesco Lotus to rapidly expand throughout Thailand. When Tesco decided to pull out, in 2020 CP Group submitted the winning bid to purchase Tesco Lotus (Thailand) and Malaysian Tesco operations. During rebranding in 2021 by CP Group, Tesco was dropped and Lotus's was introduced. CP Group also own MAKRO in this part of the World. (Wikipedia)
Thanks for your answer. It does not explain why it’s now called Lotus’s and not Lotus

That's not strictly correct. There is nothing in the immigration rules that specifically states that you cannot do what the OP is suggesting, that is to stay 179 days, leave for a couple of months, and then return to UK to stay for a further 179 days. But, the bottom line is, when is a visit not a visit ? The UK govt view is that a visit is not a visit when the visit visa holder is using the visit visa to live, or to try to live in the UK (which requires a settlement visa) . The immigration rules for visitors state, amongst other things :
V 4.2. The applicant must satisfy the decision maker that they are a genuine visitor, which means the applicant:
- (a) will leave the UK at the end of their visit; and
- (b) will not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK their main home;
Normally, an ECO or Border Force officer will accept that a visitor can spend a maximum of around 180 days in any 12 month period as a visitor. Spending more time than that will cause the decision-maker to wonder if the visa holder is actually "visiting" the UK or is a de facto resident. Bear in mind that the decison-maker doesn't need proof that you are not a genuine visitor, as the onus is on the visa applicant/holder to satisfy the decision-maker that this is so.
Thanks for your comments which are much appreciated. Sorry for the delay

That is very disappointing and imo unfair.
Which immigration office?
Hopefully you can obtain records of transfers from abroad.
It’s the Hua Hin immigration. I am going to try to get the information but it’s not easy. I will keep you posted. It’s also worth all long term retirees to be aware of this problem. It is interesting to know if anyone else has had the same problem

Please report back with info about the process and how it went.
Had a pm this morning someone applying for non O marriage.
The io wanted activity in the account on day of application.
Suggest you make a 100baht deposit at same time as applying for bank letter.
Went on Wednesday and my application was refused. My exempt visa was renewed for another 30 days. The reason being that the 800,000baht has been in my account for many years and they need proof of 800000b being transferred from abroad within the last year or maximum two years. I am now trying to obtain a bank statement to show transfers from England amounting to 800000b which I transferred for living expenses I will keep you posted. If you have any suggestions please let me know

Yes I will report what happens. I have had 800,000 baht on a deposit account for many years but as a precaution I will do as you suggest and withdraw some of the accrued interest. Thanks again

You can enter with a tourist OR visa exempt and apply for non O marriage or retirement (if you meet the requirements) at immigration in Thailand.
Just be aware that to apply for your non O retirement you need apply with 15+ days remaining on your permission of stay.

If married to a Thai you could apply for a extension of stay based upon marriage that does not require the insurance.
Phuket doses not do a change to a non-o visa from a OA. They waive the insurance for those that got their non-oa visa several year ago.
Thanks Joe

It's now dead. Good news.
You can obtain a non O retirement at immigration office.
You need 800k in your Thai bank account on day you apply.
With that 90 day permit, allow the money to season for 2 months then apply for 12 month extension.
The financial requirements are exactly the same as extensions from a non O-A.
The only difference is that extension to non O does not require insurance whereas from non O-A insurance is required.
Thank you Dr Jack that’s most helpful. I intend applying next Wednesday

I obtained a retirement visa O-A in 2014 and have extended it each year. I have just returned on a visa exempt as my retirement extension was due in March but I was not able to return from England until last week. My question is should I renew my O-A extension or should I apply for an Retirement O visa to avoid future insurance requirements. If so how do I do it? I thank everyone who answers

Just another case of calling a visa exempt entry a visa on arrival.
A visa exempt entry is for 30 days and a visa on arrival is for 15 days after applying for it and paying a 2000 baht fee for it.
See this list for both of them. List of countries for visa exempt and visas on arrival dated October 2021.
The UK is shown on the 30 day visa exempt entries.
Thanks for your reply. With visa exempt can I use fast track entry channel?
i did have a retirement visa which ran out in March which I intend to renew. I have annual insurance and 800,000 baht on deposit still -
Can an Englishman enter Thailand and obtain a visa on arrival? Looking at the countries allowed list I don’t see England?
Many thanks

My Thai partner has a 10 year visa for the UK. She is allowed to stay 180 days per visit. Is that also the maximum per year or can she leave after 179 days and return 2 months later for another 180 days. Your advice is very much appreciated. Thank you

Thank you to everyone for your comments. The plan now is for her to fly to England unvaccinated Stay at home for quarantine and then use my local doctor to arrange the jabs via NHS. The reason for having the NHS involved is so we can get a vaccine passport for travel to the USA and back to Thailand

I had exactly the same thing happen Monday night/Tuesday morning, almost 80 debet transactions of Baht 34.15 each on my Bangkok Bank debit card. I have never used the card online or to pay for anything in the shops, the only time the card have been used is in Bangkok Bank ATMs to withdraw money. The only way anyone would have been able to get my card details is if they worked in the bank or in the company producing the cards or have hacked into the bank/card company's systems.
The officer at the bank informed me that the transactions was from Google's payment systems and originated in a game named Garena.
My partner suffered like you. 55 withdrawals in less than 24 hours and Bangkok bank told her the same when she cancelled her card. She never uses ATM but did use it online to buy an item in the game Hayday

My Bangkok Bank does SMS notifications for withdraws over 500 baht, one year 170b.
Bkk bank only report withdrawals of 1,000 baht and over. So I would not know if anything under that amount was taken. That’s why I go on line and check my balance twice a month
