May I ask you to verify that your letter has Covid-19 wording?
I'm with Cigna also but the letter they sent me just shows an evidence of coverage for all reasonable medical conditions, no specific mention of Covid-19.
btw what is the country of your policy?
Yes definitely a large heading saying Covid-19. I bought through a Broker in HK but it is underwritten in UK.

Then explain why the IO writes "Retirement" above his stamp whenever I enter LOS

Well as an over 75 on retirement extension, Non-B, I was hoping that I could visit family in New Zealand this coming Christmas. I will cancel that idea now. However there is nothing forthcoming that informs us just how long these regulations are going to stay so theoretically next year could be a problem too. Worse still, I wonder if they will remain as part of the 'new normal' in which case it would mean that I, and others like me, would be basically unable to travel abroad and return. In other words we stay until we are told we can't or we leave voluntarily making sure we take our assets with us. (Travelling abroad and unable to re-enter how would one access assets left here (800K in the bank etc.)?
The view I am taking is that I leave for my house in France and take all important papers with me. One day Thailand will reopen borders for tourists and then we come back, cancel the retirement visa, repatriate all savings and only travel in on a 30-day TV. The retirement visa should be renamed 0ne-year TV with a multi-entry option if purchased.

What company is providing "covid" insurance? I have personal medical cover worth a million US but I doubt it covers pandemics...
Me too, and it is with Cigna and they have sent me a Certificate today showing I have Covid-19 cover of US$1m. Worth writing to your Broker or Insurer. If you have had it since before Feb 2020 you may be pleasantly surprised.

My gripe with this is that they market a one year TV as a Retirement Visa. It is longer than the normal TV because you put money in a Bank and leave it there. So idiots like me actually think, "Ah, I am getting a retirement visa so I can retire to that country and it becomes my home in later life". Completely wrong. I need to get to Europe and probably can, but then cannot get back to my retirement home where all my belongings, important papers etc. etc. reside. I feel even sorrier for the Elite Visa holders who are no better off. What a con. Someone should be there on the internet so when someone googles retirement in Thailand there is a big buzzing sound and a warning that says there is no such visa and be prepared to be locked out at the drop of a hat, whereas rich Medical Tourists will be welcomed back with open arms.

I am Dep Chair of the Board in my Condo and we all have a respectful relationship. I am able to influence things a bit but accept sometimes the decision is driven by the local authorities. Whilst they knew I was disappointed by the original closure I accepted that. When I saw the owners of a Condo opposite had allowed swimming to recommence I asked them to open our pool and they did. They had also kept the fire door open for me to spend time on the rooftop when claustrophobia crept in earlier in the lock-down. I think the secret here is to know the situation by getting the right news (even TV but also The Nation etc.) and by asking politely. They know I wont take any rubbish from them so we have this mutual respect that seems to bring the 2 cultures a little closer together in these matters. There shouldn't be any completely closed pools at this time (certainly in BKK).

Which is why you put retirement visa in '' It means nothing, just a term used to allow one over 50 to stay here for a whole 12 months. Ever wondered why there isn't a residence visa available like they have in some neighbouring countries?
Agree, but a quick look in my passport shows the IO writing Retirement within the stamp. To my point, don't market it as a retirement visa if they don't intend that you actually come and retire here. Call it a one-year visa and have done with it!

It makes zero difference, we are still people and we are married together. I am on a retirement visa and this is our main residence. Our home is in Bangkok. That's it. If Thailand doesn't acknowledge people in our situation they should not market a "retirement visa".

Thais will definitely gather in larger groups once alcohol is available. Some I know already are meeting up at a couple of restaurants where there are private rooms etc. where alcohol can be served discreetly. There have been a couple of big nights this week with 10-15 people getting together. You have to remember that the regulations are not aimed at the lone diner who just wants to enjoy a couple of drinks with a meal.
Yes but it is the people it is not aimed at that suffer, and those that it is aimed at that ignore it or find a way around it.
Either way, it makes it a complete waste of time.

I really don't care about Tourists entering the country any time soon. That is discretionary travel. What really miffs me is the fact that people who have legally made Thailand their home (married or retired for example) cannot get to their homes and family because they are classed as mere tourists. FGS, if you dish out a retirement visa and actually call it a retirement visa (see stamps in passports) then why cannot these people come back to what is maybe their only home, even if they have to quarantine for a couple of weeks?
This needs fixing now, not in 3/6/12 months time!!
I actually admire what has happened here, but this has definitely slipped through the net.

Do you have any idea as to how much a serious accident can cost an uninsured tourist in LOS? No average tourist would have enough money to cover it. How many million baht do you have available to cover something serious?
Having spent 48 years working in the Insurance and Banking industries, believe it or not I know exactly how much it would cost, plus all the other costs that you wouldn't even think about.

It still amazes me that people pop up on this site claiming that all tourists should have travel insurance. If you can demonstrate you have money in the Bank to cover any costs that are offered by a Travel policy then why should you have to pay a premium. These people are referred to as self-insured! If you cannot demonstrate this, then fair enough, insist on insurance. Not everyone lives hand to mouth and many people have actually saved during their lives for just this kind of problem. Some mass judging going on IMHO.

My wife is stuck in Jakarta and me in Bangkok. We WA or FT 5 times a day which brings some level of normality. It is not having an end-date that is killing me. Good luck, every day is one day nearer to being back together again!

I have not seen anything about these reporting restrictions. Have you got a link to where they are announced?
Or a link to the Royal Gazzette when it was made law?
I know a couple ER doctors at Samitivej (Head of ER) well, play sport with them 3-4 times a week and neither of them have ever mentioned any restrictions. I will LINE one of them now specifically to him.
Same Hospital. It is private and caters for Japanese, Thai and Ex-Pat. I have had in-depth discussions on CV with my Specialist and I can tell you he is not being gagged by anyone.

I visit a Hospital twice a week in Bangkok for Physio. Yesterday it was deserted. When I tried to book for next Saturday I was told it depended if there were enough patients to warrant offering the service. They tell me they have no CV patients at all. It does kind of suggest that there are not people dying on the street and tens of thousands are ill and not being tested. CV doesn't differentiate between rich and poor. I am sure that it is a different story in different areas but I can only report what I see.

I just asked because I traveled a great deal.

I really hope that these numbers are accurate and even if they are not that a trend can be monitored.
Yesterday as I left to go on my bike to the Supermarket the Condo Security were trying to tell me that Thai TV was reporting a 24 hour Curfew from yesterday. I stood in front of them and googled it to find no mention whatsoever. They were clearly unhappy as I went out and kept saying "Curfew, Curfew".
Today we are told that the Regional Governors are being told to prepare for a 24-hour Curfew, whatever that actually means in reality. I suspect, like elsewhere the thumb screws are being tightened to make sure we all behave. I am OK with that. I am not OK with a total lock-down with a death rate of 50 (in their own words) of which only around 25 are from the general public.

How can you tell if there are no covid19 cases?Just curious as how you can tell by just looking or if you have access to medical records?
What I meant was that when I ask the nurses and Specialists if they have any in-patients being treated for CV the answer is none.

you don't have to believe any numbers, you just have to go to any
thai hospital and see if it looks like a corona outbreak hospital.
there is no way to hide or deny when the outbreak happans.
the hospitals are just full of people coughing and acctually dying everywhere.
people cough blood and fall dead in the streets, shops, offices.
this is happaning right now in new york.
this is what happaned in wuhan china (only when it allready happaned,
the chinese governemt started to act).
and this is NOT happaning in thailand.
maybe the weather? maybe the good spirits? maybe another lighter mutation
of the virus?
let's just hope and pray it will stay this way, and go away in may.
I go to a Hospital in Bangkok twice a week for ongoing Physio Treatment. For the last 4 weeks the Hospital has become emptier and emptier. No CV cases at all. They are ticking over and sent specialist staff home. Too much scare mongering going on typical TV style. It was obvious that as the cities emptied the virus would go to the countryside where the locals carry on as normal in some cases. They need to control the spread of the virus in these places before they can even consider opening up the cities again or even let tourists back into the country, which will see a mass re-population of the cities from the countryside.

Can you tell a little bit about the procedure, was it a blood test from tip of the finger or a swab from the nose?
It was a blood test from the tip of my finger. I had to put some in a little plastic test kit and then the nurse added a liquid. Five minutes later there was one line (if positive there are two I believe). Cheers

Where was that? Which test?
Just so you know, antibodies only develop after the infection. So what you want is a positive. It would mean you're asymptomatic or already recovered.
Thanks I knew that which is why I was hoping for a positive. I had some of the secondary symptoms like loss of taste etc. I had the Antibody test at Medconsult in BKK. From tomorrow everyone has to undertake the test themselves, sourced by the Clinic, just to keep a distance. It just means I have to go on being very careful.

Did he give an inkling of why?
All I see on this thread are number of cases, but not number of tests? Without tests (positive AND negative) who knows what real damage is out there or when it will be safe to go out.
He didn't, but the fact I could have one of the first tests ever for antibodies (and the kit was made in Thailand) suggests that they are ramping up here in the Kingdom. It did seem to work very well. Cost TB1,250. It wasn't the result that I wanted but it was, or seemed to be OK. He did mention that the constant high temperatures also help things here. I don't know if any of this is true, but there is such a dearth of positive news that even little bits lift the spirits.
