  1. No one really seems to know for sure, the one or two people that claim to know the ins-and-outs of the passport linking system based on experience in other countries admit they can't explain many of instances and stories shared here or even their own experiencing passing through immigration - the reverting to manual nung, song, sam counting and paper flipping with this automatic linking system etc.. or how some people manage back to back tourist and exemptions for dozens of years without a single iota of questioning, and others don't..  It seems pretty random at best.

One thing I do notice is the immigration officers in the premium lane queues seems to move people along with much less hassle. You can fly from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok with Malaysian AIrlines or Thai in business class on many afternoons for 6000-7000baht one way, which will give you a premium pass - they hand them out on the plane when passing around arrival cards, if this doesnt work this has the added benefit if they do deport you they probably will just return you to Kuala Lumpur, although I'm not sure what your option would be at that point.

Maybe better to try and get the record expunged in Australia

  2. I paid 18,000 some years ago for this service in roughly same scenario so it seems about right - although still doesnt make much sense - at that point foreign embassies were still issuing one year non-imm B with right paperwork though and it was a lazy option presented by the accountants, leave with this paperwork and go Penang, or pay 18,000 and we'll sort it with local immigration, Penang would of worked out close to that if you avoided the mini buses from hell, and flew, and stayed somewhere that wasn't a hostel so it wasn't a hard sale.

  3. A few of these places have opened near me (outskirts of bangkok) in recent months, a bit more character than say sante fe, but I'd be worried about saturation, seem to have more 69baht steak houses than 7/11s. Agree on the rent issues, if popular your landlord may hike it up dramatically, limit your investment to things you can pick up and move to another premise

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to pay an agency to do the 30 day extension for you?  Or do you have to show up yourself?

And are there any funky paperwork requirements?  It's looking like I may have to do my first extension since some tasks are pushing me past my 30 day deadline for getting out of Dodge.

I'd rather just pay someone to do it for me, but...

There are loads of agencies that do 90 day reporting for people with prices from 400baht to 1000baht Ive heard - asking any old timer in your area who he uses, however I've not heard about them doing the 30 day for TV extensions but may be available for extra $.

It shows a red square in the middle of their screen with a number in it. My last number was 22. Dont know how it is calculated. My dissapeared after i got new passport.

It's funny that, and similar to practically everyone else's experience and yet the ThatVisa i hate everyone else haters  will tell you that it's automatically linked at the kiosk with no manual intervention or separate lookup is required... ?

Its the owner of the house where he is staying ,that has to pay the fine,

in this case with his money.

    regards worgeordie

Why would Somchai care?  He will just ignore the fine, if he's ever even reached with it other than hearing from his tenant, unless of course tenant uses moving out as leverage. I think multi-unit owner and justrictic managed condos in bkk are probably a bit wiser to the rules and more leary about immigration for sake all their tenants.

Reality is 90% of time mugging's farang pays the fine and registers the owners details and owner is none the wiser, and immigration are all too happy,  hence why many  (or maybe just me) care about the penalty.

  7. With the recent overstay I would fly back in Chiang Mai from KL to be on the safe side, no denied reports from CM as far as I know, also at least then even if your denied the worst they can do is send you back to KL (at your expense) - No direct flights to UK from CM. Make sure you have 20,000, a hotel voucher, and a ticket out of thailand within 30 days

How dare you deny us law-abiding residents the joy of telling you law-breaking young one how stupid you are!

Indeed, where will us bitter bar stool losers get our kicks if such things are disallowed. Please remember overstayers are second after digital nomads for rising our blood pressure because "it makes it difficult for the rest of us" 555.

  9. HH has GrabTaxi now, Samui doesn't - if you haven't got a car, or kids are mobile, this can be deal breaker

HH has a songthaw service, that follows set routes and set prices - unless after hours or commissioning for yourself

HH has an AOT owned international airport with flights to KL and more on the way. A return flight to KL prices out cheaper than a single flight from USM to BKK

HH has a excellent bus service to the BKK, all big business class style seats, clean, uneventful, bus station is out of town, but complimentary minibus to clock tower, and use GrabTaxi to the bus station of outbound.

HH has a railway station although almost always slower than the bus

So summary transportation is hands down better in HH

Bar prices are roughly the same

A decent meal is cheaper in HH

    Beach is nicer in Samui

Bluepark shopping center is roughly the same as the new one in Samui in terms of shops
