glad you got it, many things have changed over the past 10 years, at that time anybody could also open a bank account, now almost impossible for an expat to do that, btw I do have a TIN that was given to me 14 years ago, was just commenting on the post as many people keep repeating the same messages and there is no end into it as currently is very difficult to get a TIN, I did visit the 3 tax offices that I mentioned as I have plenty of free time and was curious as to why so many posters keep running in circles with their comments and questions, thus decided to investigate and reported my findings, I do know/understand that other provinces may have different requirements but these 3 told me the same thing

it all depends on the time of the day, I use Japan, very fast, but some adds pop up sometimes, Australia Sidney one it's ok, Portugal good, Iceland not bad, sometimes Turkey, avoid any from Singapore

I have been through all the unnecessary steps, including that one as well, and was told (by the 3 tax master at the 3 provinces I visited) to get tax refund one needs to be on a tourist visa, and apply when leaving the country, I explained to them that I collect a small interest from a term deposit account and was told that could NOT ask to be refunded the tax whithheld by the bank, been there done that, maybe the other provinces have a different view, but these 3 didn't give a damn about my request for a tax ID

after 262 pages of posts, there is not a single one providing a plausible answer to the issue at hand. Did anybody try to get a Tax ID number or do all of you have a tax id number, because I did try to get one at 3 different tax offices in 3 different provinces, and they ALL told me the same thing, in order to get a tax id number one needs to have a work permit, I am retired thus no need for Tax Id number, I did explain to the person in charge that there was a consensus going around claiming that retired expats would/could be forced to file tax returns, all 3 provinces (Phang Nga, Krabi and Trang) said exactly the same thing, they are/were not aware of any changes to the taxation system.
