  1. I just read that the guy had a history of mental illness. If that is the case then cannabis could have send him over the edge. But its not proof of anything plus if you know you have mental illness you should not take it. That is just stupid. Banning cannabis because of it is like saying we should ban alcohol because there are alcoholics. There will always be stupid people. But in the article it stated the guy was already acting strange 5 days before. Looks like a mental breakdown to me.
  2. Dont forget that cannabis can be in the system for days/weeks without having any effect. So its easy to find cannabis in the system of someone who uses it. Does not mean he was stoned at the moment or that it influenced his actions.
  3. I just the Bangkok post, but lets just keep the drunk driving out of it. We all know it happens a lot and that science says alcohol has more bad effects on driving then cannabis (but both should be send to jail if they offend IMHO) You must get pretty close to people to see facial expressions like that. I wonder about your concept of personal space. I can see red eyes for instance from further then a meter or so. Facial expression that is new one as you have no idea what their standard expression is so i call a bit of BS on this. Unless your idea of personal space is off. I also wonder where you see those people sitting. I mean the drunks i see are usually of course in recreational areas of bkk not really on the normal streets. But you can see and hear it from a distance. No need to invade personal space. As for going out to get their stuff conflicts with that you see them sitting. They would be walking. But in Bangkok you can get it by delivery already within half an hour. So people dont need to go out. Im call a bit of BS on your story especially the facial expression and red eyes are even harder to spot (just checked the mirror to see how my eyes looked its hard to see and then im staring from 1.5 meter and really staring.
  4. Lets agree to disagree (not about the accident part as its clear that a drunk driver makes a better story. However most deadly accidents are reported) How do you spot someone that is burned ? I think it really depends like how burned someone is. But most people who are burned are not walking around. They are relaxing somewhere. (we are taking cannabis here not other drugs). Canabis users in general and I know many do it in a relaxed surrounding. Usually ones own home. Because unlike people drinking in most places your not allowed to smoke.
  5. He jumped. But i think its the water he took before jumping. The conclusion that alcohol and weed killed his.. maybe.. but it could be his way to cope with depression or it could have caused it. No way to know for real. I mean some people do respond bad to substance abuse. Could have been either the cannabis or alcohol. Or both.. or who knows his gf stole his money and he jumped because of it. So many speculations. When i use canabis im fine. When my GF uses it it sometimes affects her badly. So she does not use it anymore. Just like you got people who are nice after drinking and those that turn into agressive idiots.
  6. Lets put it differently i dont see many car crashed but i read about them and many involve alcohol. I do see a lot drunks and they are easily recognizable unlike people who are stoned. Stoned is in general harder to recognize especially from cannabis. Yabaa has more tells. Canabis i could be stoned and walking around you would never know as it does not impair movement. Also no slurring of speech ect.
  7. I wonder where you go and so on because i never see them. I do see a lot of drunks and car crashes involving alcohol. If they want to ban something alcohol would be better to ban. You can sometimes recognize if someone is stoned by their eyes. Its much harder to see then a drunk person as it impairs movement. Do you look up close in their eyes or ?
  8. The whole helmet discussion is pointless. Talking that its the fault of the police for not enforcing. You don't wear a helmet to escape fines, you wear them so you dont end up like this guy for example. I lived a bit more rural before almost no police checks but I always wore my helmet. Those who don't wear helmets should accept the risks and don't moan about it and <deleted> the blame.
  9. I think there are just a lot of Brits and yes they read English newspapers. To be honest I think the UK press is different from the Dutch press. I never read anything about accidents of Dutch people. I am pretty sure we are not bullet proof. But I only read one of the big national newspapers. Maybe it just pops up more. But I often read on this forum how members hate insurance agencies. So maybe they also buy less insurance in the UK. Plus people from the USA seem to be more on the ball with their healthcare insurance. Probably because of their country. I doubt there are many on Asean Now redaction that read French / German. Not to mention the effort they would have to put in translating. So IMHO those are the reasons. Different kind of newspapers in the UK and the language bias.
  10. I once send a GF to a language school it helped a lot. You are a teacher have you never thought about sending her somewhere to learn a language ?. Doing it yourself is possible but hard (maybe not as a teacher). IMHO without one party having good command on the others party his or her language relationships will be shallow. But I am not judging some like shallow and dont need more.
  11. So funny indeed. All of the GF's i been with liked diving its a common hobby. Traveling can be too. Maybe your just stuck in the past. I was quite respectful with your opinion but you seem to be combative as ever. So no need for me to hold back either. Your exactly as the group in my fathers age you might be older and yes it was uncommon then. Guess what old dad regrets it a lot. Its important to have common ground how else can you have a relationship.
  12. I like conversations with my GF and no we are not discussing complex topics. I mean we might discuss the war in Ukraine or something. Maybe some <deleted> that happened at her work or mine. Those things don't cause us to argue. I am not sure why you think that conversation leads to arguments between partners. We are all different some just like their partner for a conversation and so on, others like you don't care about it. You have to find out what you like and go for it. No need to conform to others. What you describe as a conversation is the most basic and normal form. But if you have GF that has real limited English a conversation like that will be dead in the water too. But the topics you mentioned are of course the majority of conversation. I found that many ppl don't like deep conversations. My GF is from Singapore her friends are too, all Expats and good in their field. I tried to start some conversations but they don't seem to like deeper topics as they have to give an opinion. There was one exception a smart guy with broad knowledge. I think most people are NOT discussing heavy topics. But even for basic topics its useful to have good language skills. What i like about smarter / independent GF's is that they can share in the tasks. Last time i wanted to go to Laos for a few days. I told her you book the tickets and hotel. Later tell me what it cost and ill pay half. I could have done it myself but she could too. Last time she booked a live abord diving trip for us. Everyone likes different things, and it takes time to know what you want. Then it takes time to find a gf that fits. All i can say don't rush into things.
  13. Only normal if you let it be your norm. For me its absolutely not normal. I try to find a girl with good English and shared hobbies instead of the most pretty one. Works better in general (in my case). Not perfect of course otherwise i would not have divorced my wife. But it had other reasons (her wanting kids). But enough normal conversations and shared hobbies. That is the way I like it others might have other idea's just like the OP. Does limit the selection of GF's a lot as not many speak good English and then finding common ground. Not impossible but harder. But even though the one I am with speaks perfect English (Singaporean), that does not mean we do everything together. Id go crazy if that was the case. We do watch TV together at times if it is something we both like. I read my books alone. Sometimes we play some games on computers. She has her own friends and I certainly dont want to be with them all the time. They do also speak good English as they are Singaporean but still I hate all the social obligations. Being together IMHO means having a common language and common hobbies but not doing everything together. For others it is having a sexy gf and that is it. I wont judge whatever works for someone is their choice. I just disagree with the is a normal marriage. Maybe this the kind that is more common in Thailand.
  14. Tennessee law already says that religious leaders do not have to officiate weddings they object to. Critics say the new bill goes beyond that and would empower county clerks to refuse to certify marriage licenses, meaning that LGBTQ, interfaith, or interracial couples could be unable to get married at all, rather than just needing to find a new officiant for their ceremony. If it was the way you said i could agree with it that is how it goes in the Netherlands. But now we are talking about country clerks. Those are government officials.
  15. I don't think tattoos make someone bad, but getting blind drunk and starting a fight does. Would someone without tattoos who started a fight or got blind drunk annoying people be a good tourist in your view ?
  16. You still think there are fair fights.. maybe when you were young (im assuming your older then me and I am almost 50). But even when i grew up in the Netherlands there were guys that looked for fights when they had a huge backup. The idea of a honest fight is long gone. If it ever existed.
  17. Some people still seem to think there is a lot of difference between countries. Though i believe there are general cultural values per country. But every country has criminals and idiots and unfortunately they have passports and travel. I don't know what to think but drunk people in general make bad decissions so him starting the fight is not an unreasonable assumption.
  18. Wow, I never thought id see the day id agree with you. Totally agree. Shooting a dog goes too far. If there is a problem talk first and between talk and shooting there are other options (not that i condone animal cruelty) but scaring it of an other way would have been the preferred option.
  19. This is a donation / sympathy article. Not an article to get the facts straight. They havent interviewed the insurer. Not sure if they would even comment on a case like this (privacy and all). This is really one sided so they don't want to give the reasons as it might reflect bad on them and not fit the sob story. Because if they lie the insurer might sue them or bring out the real story. So better to keep quiet. In cases like this there is quite often more to it people always like to pain themselves as 100% in the right and the big bad insurer is wrong. I too would like to know the reasons.
  20. Exactly, he is free to say what he wants. The publishers are free to drop him if he insults part of their public. Its just stupid to say stuff like this when you sell services. Part of the public wont agree and it will cause problems. This could impact the newspaper. He decided to speak out, the paper decided they did not want economic problems (loss of sales ect) and canned him. I have my ideas too about certain people but i wont tell those to my clients. I got a few highly religious clients. I wont tell them what i think of religion. That is bad for business and it does not impact how i treat them. But if i tell them im sure it wont be good.
  21. I have given up on Thai stuff. I just read it and forget it. I still love it here but the corruption and dangerous roads are a concern. But I now accept it as part of life. I dont think it will change. Nobody really wants change they still want the easy way out so they dont mind corruption. As long as this attitude does not change it will stay dangerous.
  22. The ones whos version is backed up by CCTV (if available). Otherwise its hard to know. Like MarcusL said, probably somewhere in the middle.
  23. Not sure if you ever done trekking, but it goes quite slow. Also i wonder how they measured the 3km as it wont be in a straight line. I did some trekking in Khao Yai national park and it was quite intense. No real paths (we had a ranger to guide us). Even the ranger with his GPS lost track a bit at times. Going into places like this can be really confusing and travel is slow. But 3km at 2.5 hours is indeed slow. But just wonder if it was 3km in a straight line.. (not sure how other to measure distance in winding paths)
  24. Who says he did not want his wife to have this. If you get married it can (i know in my country it will) have repercussions. If you dont want that then dont mary or get a better will made after marriage.
  25. Drunk driving (or other drugs) and killing someone should be considered murder. Maybe then people learn something. Its ok to get drunk or high but its absolutely revolting and selfish if you get in a car.
