Errata....that should be THEPRAYYA ROAD.
Chanya does not do PCR tests. Only ATK ones at 790 bahts.

Even bigger joke is that if I nominate Novatel at the airport, I won't get a Thailand Pass unless I show proof of a 600 metre taxi fare and a pre-paid ATK. What would that be, 1000 baht? What's the point....
How would one book a taxi in advance from outside of Thailand? It's not like taxis provide an invoice or copy of a reservation if booked ahead of arrival. Wouldn't an airport pick-up by the Novotel be okay?

These people are not interested in easing the way for mass tourism, and don't give a darn about the plight of millions of unemployed and desperate tourism workers. The truth is that the hi-so autocrats who run this country have always looked down their noses at foreign visitors in tank tops and shorts (something no Thai gentleman would be caught dead in except at the golf and country club in their gated communities). And I fully expect them to tighten the screws further on foreign retirees. They also look down their noses at Thai women who marry foreigners and their spouses, so don't expect any respect or admiration there. We are going to have to face reality and decide how much b.s. we can put up with, or look at other retirement destinations. Retiring in Mexico is relatively uncomplicated and there are no penalties for being a foreign resident. It's also cheaper than Thailand.

I believe you only need the cover for the duration of the permission to stay you get on entry, so assuming you're planning on coming in on a Non-Imm O you'd only need the cover for the initial 90 days.
At most (e.g. Elite Visa / Non-Imm OA) you'd only need the cover for 1 Year.
Does the Elita Visa require this insurance? I had thought not.

THB 3 million is less than $100,000. That seems quite a low threshold to me. Both of my health insurance policies (one international and one Thailand-based) provide more than that. Am I confused about the fuss that this is creating? Asking for a friend.

I don't have a US residence, but I vote in the precinct of the county election board of the county where I last resided in the US. When I'm gone, my estate (outside of Thailand) will be handled in that state as well. The Americans I know here are probably all voting. I don't see writing to representatives as efficacious.
Well, I know what happens if one's congressional representative is pro-active. Their staff forward a "Congressional" (as it's called) to an office at the State Department that deals with Congressional affairs. The office is *required* to respond to the Congressperson after clearing it several levels above them, but "Congressionals" are known to make people at State very nervous and they react quickly. A pro forma reply would be drafted to respond to the message, and the congressperson's office should send it back to the corresponding constituent. That's where it usually ends, but at least someone has paid attention.

It was an odd question, sorry if it upset you. I was asking a question unrelated to Covid. Just wondering if I make it to 65 and get cancer for example. Could I fly home and get treatment covered through Medicare? Just ignore my tangents ????
If you are signed up for Medicare, of course you can. If you're not signed up for it because you've never paid into the system, you won't. Unfortunately a lot of expats have never paid in, and thus are not eligible. Medicare will pay for my Modern or Pfizer vaccination when I go back in August.

You are right, talk to your Representatives & Senators
But given that the entire American expat population in Thailand is something less than 90,000, spread those across 50 States, hmmm, not sure how much voting clout that equates to!
Almost none. And that's why no appeals from such a small community will carry any weight. But I've seen congressional representatives act on a single letter from a constituent. What they do is forward it to the State Department, who are required to respond with 24 hours with a reply. It gets someone's attention, and that's probably all it does. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman is on her way here this week (not Blinken), and if anyone knows anyone attending (all in house embassy people usually), they could ask her a public question about this. She'll have a blank look and will turn to the embassy public information officer for a response, who will in turn give the official answer. "Wait for the Thai government's plans."

Quite a while ago I suggested a GoFundMe page to raise money to buy a full page ad in Washington Post. I could of course be an open letter to Biden. He's quite sensitive to negative publicity. Such a public letter would let the whole world know that Biden has received this letter.
A much more effective action would be to write to your Members of Congress (Senators and Representatives) that you vote for in state elections. Whoops. I wonder how many people who live here are eligible for absentee ballots by having a bona fide home in the U.S. (I do, and vote). We not Blinken's constituents, and while we are Biden's, I wonder what the actual voting rate is for presidential elections from Democrats and Republicans Abroad. Anyway, I am wasting my time and your reading pleasure, because it's never going to happen. As soon as I renew my upcoming visa extension, I'm outta here to get vaccinated in the States- an option that is open to any of us.

Said the chair of Democrats Abroad in Thailand, Paul Risley.
“What are we, chopped liver?
“These are vaccines, offered for free to all in the US, and most of them have been manufactured with taxpayer dollars.”
I wonder if he knows how few of the expats here actually pay U.S. taxes. I do, but most probably don't.

An interesting item of note in an article from a Guam newsite says "that the Thailand government is trying to compete with Guam and asking the U.S. government for thousands of USDA-approved vaccines in order to vaccinate the thousands of American expatriates in Thailand." Has anyone heard anything about that here?

https://www.fieldprint.com/ is a way to get an FBI criminal history record. It requires submission of electronic fingerprints with a turn-around of less than 48 hours in my case. I doubt it is required for a COE but it is required for a Non-O or Non-OA visa application in the U.S.

I am interested in resales of Thailand Elite Visas. Purchaser/members can apparently resell their membership for a 20% fee paid to the program. I don't know whether that applies to all categories of Elite Visa (5, 10, 20, lifetime), and I am only interested in purchasing a resale 5-year membership. Any referrals or comments most welcome.

Thailand could starting ramping up back to mass tourism this summer if they simply announce that they will accept verifiably fully-innoculated visitors on the pre-pandemic visa terms (i.e. no tests, no quarantine, no paperwork, no special insurance etc). Each visitor would need to have credible verification that they received their final jab at least two weeks prior.
400 million people are fully-vaccinated, while another 400m have received a first jab and are waiting for their second. The supply is growing and we expect to have a billion fully-vaccinated humans by the end of June.
The current hold up is the official verification schemes. Israel launched theirs in February, the UK launched theirs earlier this month, and the EU are beta-testing theirs, individual governments will probably roll it out during July. All national schemes will provide the basic info that Thailand needs to know that the holder is not a biological threat to Thailand: date of shot(s) and type of vaccine(s).
To have any sort of high season this year, Thailand should announce during June that, from the second half of the year (July 1st), the doors are wide open to fully-vaccinated tourists who arrive on planes carrying only fully-vaccinated passengers and crew. They won't get anywhere near 2019 levels this year but it will be a start, will give them some sort of high season, will kickstart a complicated industry that has stalled badly, and will pre-empt local competitors eager to leapfrog them.
Absolute first rate common sense. Unfortunately that's a commodity in very short supply in official circles here. Bold, pro-active action would salvage something for the remainder of this year.

Yes, I read on the US Consulate website that's what they are saying but wanted some actual experiences. I'm getting in a tight window for my extension renewal and wanted to be sure I receive the new passport before my extension renewal date.
Do you know, do I need to have a passport with 6 month validity in order to renew my Thai visa extension?

We're considering the same thing. But need clarity as to how we'll get back into Thailand before making any commitments.
Airfare is really cheap right now. We found flights to Denver for $800!!! RT with NO change fees.
Who's flying to DEN for $800 RT, please?

Royal Thai Consulate-General
Royal Thai Consulates-General are different from Honorary Consulates. In the U.S. there are three (New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles). All will continue to issue visas and provide all other consular services. -

Anyone who thinks that the U.S. Embassy or the Pacific Command is going to fly in an Osprey loaded with enough vaccines for the tens of thousands of American citizens living in Thailand to line up outside the chancery to get vaccinated is smoking something that I am not. The liability issues involved would be monumental, to say nothing of the security issues of having that many Americans in the same place at the same time- even if stretched over a few weeks. Yes, in the case of civil insurrection or a civil war where the airport is closed and there are no options for Americans to self-evacuate, the USG does mount rescue operations to retrieve U.S. citizens at great risk. I was involved in one in Lebanon that was extremely risky and logistically complicated, and it went largely without major problems, but this is an entirely different matter. U.S. citizens in Thailand have the option of returning home to the U.S. and getting vaccinated there, which is what I intend to do.

Under the current requirements to enter Thailand during the pandemic, if entering on a new Non O Visa based on retirement, or on a re-entry permit on a retirement extension, the 400/40K Health Insurance is required for the duration of stay granted on entry.
For entry from a new Non O Visa based on retirement, that would be for 90 days.
For an existing extension based on retirement, it would be until the expiry date of the extension.
If entering on a new Non O Visa based on marriage, or a re-entry permit on a marriage extension, then the 400/40K Health Insurance requirement does not apply.
All entries require the 100,000USD Covid Insurance.
How does someone located abroad (in the U.S.) buy the required insurance and pay for it in advance? How much will it cost someone 60+ years old? I bought mine here in Thailand where I livel
