September 2020 , not a single vaccine was approved , so any signing of a deal might end up throwing money down the drain .
Disagree. The countries doing best now are mostly ones that placed bets and made investments in multiple candidates. It's just like insurance.
Thailand placed a bet that it could essentially lie to the world and trick tourists into coming back by proclaiming "Thailand is Covid Free" all whilst not testing. Recall?
As for resource, Thailand is NOT a poor country. Most of the people, however, are very poor. The government had plenty of resources to make investments in vaccine candidates which would have had them well up in the queue.

They will be mostly Chinese nationals working here who can only return to China if they take a Chinese vaccine as China does not acknowledge other vaccines.

Yeah. I hate to be unpleasant but, aside from people visiting because they have family or close contacts in Thailand, you'd have to be (well, probably be) pretty thick to take a vacation in the middle of a raging pandemic.

Yes, because they know that if the number is not in the headline, there's no possible way anybody can ever find out the actual figures - oh, hang on a minute ...
Also this is not "the media" - this is an online discussion forum.
Wow. You are 0 for 2.
1. Most people, across the globe, read ONLY headlines.
2. Forums ARE INDEED media.

Just now, cyril sneer said:Maybe a new tactic to make people click the article rather than just see the number
I reckon the number would be far more likely to get clicks. FAR more.

Whole society is an absolute mess.
I note nearly all the voices of "Thailand has done so well" have mysteriously logged off the forum.

Has the media been instructed not to headline any numbers above 10,000?
2 days in a row. No number in headline. So odd.

Thailand on Saturday (July 17) reported 10,082 new COVID-19 cases and 141 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.
Why no number in the title thread? Seems strange.

Tomorrow's reported Thai numbers will be 3 new cases and no deaths. Cannot inconvenience the HISOs with travel restrictions.

The article says how China coped. From Reuters not China Daily.
China is lying and hiding the truth as it always does. Everyone with a little bit of brain knows this.
As for Reuters, China has been manipulating foreign media for years now. Look at what happened with their manipulation of the WHO.
These silly reports from China are not more believable than the case numbers in Thailand with among the lowest testing rates in the world.

Very important as HJs and the like are essential services during these stressful times.

Little off topic. Has anyone noticed steady increase in Vietnam cases.
Are they planning lockdowns in Saigon etc.
I've been told by a friend with family there that Vietnam is effectively in lock down already. Vaccines being prioritised on young as they contribute to economy more. They are leaving the vulnerable/old to their own fate.

It feels like there have been more announcements like this than the number of actual vaccines in the country. So strange.
Anyway, perhaps their AZ production will save them if they can produce it quickly enough and decide to restrict (or forbid) exports. Many other countries are doing the same, so, bad luck for the countries who are totally reliant on imports.

Not saying this happened but there has been official Chinese government documents submitted on research into viruses that target certain races for 10 years at least (that we know of).
(This is not a conspiracy the documents are out there as sky news reports)
Yes and now we know the Chinese have been gathering DNA of populations all over the world, setting up genomics labs in many countries.
I'll call it now that in the next 10 or 15 years, a leak of a gene targeting virus will occur. They would likely pick Africa as a testing ground.
China is an extremely dangerous country

I gotta say if the mRNA vaccines do turn out to cause any long-term harm, the Chinese will have a coup.
Anyway, for now, let's hope the non-China world is right.

China won't be happy with this kind of information.
Expect 2 or 3 "studies" in the next couple days that suggest the antibodies last for a hundred years.

China is technically far ahead of the West in 5G. However, the West led by kindly Uncle Sanctions has no doubt successfully applied pressure to Thailand to accept Western solutions.
They'll be behind the technology curve, but they won't ****-off their temperamental Uncle Sanctions and incur his wrath.Yes, this is mostly true though it does not mean what people usually think it means.
What it means is that China chose to prioritize this before western countries have. Doesn't mean we can't beat them easily.
US, Europe and Japan are now working on 6G already.

Everyone helps the Thais, except themselves. For a nation so proud, they seem to leave their fate to foreigners almost every time.
The US donated far more than Japan, but no op-ed. I wonder why (I don't actually).

Your contention is that the numbers are being managed. Apart from the oft repeated statement that there isn’t enough testing, how are the numbers being managed?
I suspect the Thai government is deliberately underreporting the numbers to be below neighbors like Malaysia and also so as not to cause panic with 10K+ numbers.

They are managing the numbers again AND not testing enough.
There are probably multiple times the number of daily new cases.

And, probably some semi-random rich Thai-Chinese Puyai's nephew just out of Thai uni. Thailand is nothing but a playground for these people. They'll produce some questionable vaccine whilst making sure to get their individual vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna..
