When bribery takes place, there are 2 persons involved: the one who gives it and the one who takes it. Both are criminals.

In your case, the officer got rewarded for scamming you.

Why is bribery so common here? Because it is widely accepted and hardly pursued. And because of the giver feels that it is easier for him and quicker to go that route. That sets an immense goal for the officials to make things more slowly, more complicated, even unavailable, it there is no money coming to them. So finally, with every single act of this kind the bribery becomes more prevelant.

That can be reduced by people that stand up and do not pay, but even complain as well on the official way an well as in public. But that is the hard way to go. I know I am dreaming.

Bribery is often, quicker, easier and cheaper. Hence handing over money to police after being stopped for a fake traffic violation. I was stopped once and procrastinated for so long he gave up and went after someone else.

Forgive me but why else do you need to visit Vientiane if not for reentry to Thailand. Am I being ignorant, do people actually visit Vientiane for other purposes?

Does this not put a major dent in the hotel economy in Vientiane?

Maybe I'm just not aware I just did mot see many people doing anything but get Visa's whilst there twice, previously.

I went there to hire a car to drive to Luang Prabang (a few years back) Quite an interesting city too.

200k + Birds nest soup is very very expensive.

Made from edible bird nests, called the “Caviar of the East,” bird's nest soup is extremely rare and extremely valuable. The main ingredient, the nest of the swiftlet bird, costs anywhere from $2,500 to $10,000 per kilogram, resulting in a single bowl ofsoup that will set you back anywhere from $30 to $100.Feb 21, 2018

The law (not really law, but the official rules regarding fees in national park) defines a price for Thai citizens and a price for foreigners (doesn't matter which kind of visa, even foreigners with permanent residency status). You are a foreigner, so you are supposed to pay the foreigner price.

I do not agree with this regulation, but that's how it officially is, so they just followed the official rules.

Which Thai law do you want to explain to them?

It is written in the Thai Constitution. All must be treated equal etc.

  5. I have been reading about this TM30 for awhile. I live in the UK, but married to a Thai. When we visit Thailand we, me and two sons stay with her parents for a week or two. Do they have to register us? According to Thai law our two sons are Thai, as one of their parents (mother) is Thai. Do they need to be registered (they only have British passports)?

you will need a heater installing, the odometer reset from Km to MPH and and an MOT, then pay the import tax and VAT  then you will be ok

You don't need to reset you speedo. There are no laws in the UK about MPH or KPH. When I had a car in Thailand, a VW Passat, it had a heater, re-registering only costs £55, an MoT can had for about £30, there maybe some import dutiy to pay but as second hand car won't cost a lot.

  7. Hi there

I am new to this forum so what I am about to ask has probably been done to death. If my request for info can be redirect to the right place, fine.

I will be arriving with no visa and expecting the 30 day tourist visa on arrival, I have heard that you can request 60 days at immigration. Is this an urban myth or not?

I have Thai wife and have lived and worked in Thailand on and off over the past 45 years, but on recent trips it has just been for 2 or 3 wweek's holiday.

    Thank you
