How do you intend taking the $$$ home?

There are limits on how much cash you can carry, I'm not sure of the exact numbers I'm afraid.

It might be wise the transfer from your bank or use one of the money transfer apps rather than carry cash.

Yes, I plan to transfer it using the apps.

In no way I ever intend to stand in those crazy slow moving superrich queue unless I have HAVE to . I often wonder why they are always crowded!

  2. Thanks for the input! @Crossy @Moonlover  I already got the multi re-entry stamp while renewing last time.

My only concern is that if I withdraw all funds, it may lead to issues with the airport immigration system upon departure, as I did not maintain the minimum 400K as required.

However, as you mentioned, it is only checked upon renewal and not at the airport immigration system, so it should be okay.

  3. Hello All,

I wish to move back to my home country for a while. I don't plan to return anytime soon (never say never though...). So, I have decided to close my bank account or at least only keep the minimum balance and withdraw the rest of 800K.

My current Non-Imm O retirement extension is valid until May 2024, and I wish to fly out in December 2023. I am just curious about what should be the correct approach to conclude this visa. I can think of the following options and would like to know your opinions.

    1. Withdraw most of the 800K from the bank account (leave the minimum balance like THB 1000) and leave the kingdom, letting the visa expire in May 2024.
    2. Cancel the visa by visiting Chang Watthana, get an extension (of 7 days), and formally close the bank account and then fly out.

I am not very keen on doing it the second way as it requires time and money. Also, I would lose the visa in case I have to visit back before May 2024.

However, there is a law to keep 400K as a minimum balance in the bank account, so I'm not sure if I can do it the first way too (i.e., withdraw all funds before leaving).

    Your opinions are welcome.

Actually they DO take checking the type of insurance REALLY seriously and the can log in to the website that shows IF you're insured by one of the 12 approved thai insurers for the required 100K USD coverage.

I think right now the cheapest premium you can get is thru LMG with one million baht deductible (basically it's insurance just to tick the box that you have it as you pay the first 33K USD of any claim ???? )

In addition to the paper you bring from your insurance company showing your coverage and the dates it's in effect, while you are waiting for your passport to be returned Immigrations logs into the TGIA website and checks that it's "registered"
Here's a sample of what data they show when they look you up. This one is from a friend who got his OA extension just before the changes to the insurance where it went from 40k/400k to 100kUSD and the old 40/400 was accepted.

This is true, they did verify my data from TGIA website and they do take is requirement very seriously for extensions based on OA visa. But it's limited to checking dates, policy type, sum assured and authenticity only. They do not check exclusions, mandatory deductions etc... Just a checkbox in my opinion.

Ops, I nearly missunderstand you, considering the wording of "extending your Non Immigrant O-A"...

So you did NOT at all extend that O-A..... That you can only do by passing the boarder....

What you have done is that you have made an extension of stay based on your period of stay/permission of stay.... Nothing else.....

I am not sure about technicalities of this, but the process and requirement of normal extensions of Non Imm O retirees and Non Imm O-A retirees is different, so imo highlighting an "O-A visa extension" case in the thread title made sense.

If yes, it means without money in a Thai bank you can stay maximum 2 years with the OA-visa (leave Thailand before the end of the first year and come back shortly before the end of the first year).

    Is this correct?

Actually this is interesting, I also believed the same that everytime I re-enter the country I get another 1 year as long as my OA visa is valid, but for some reason that did not happen.

When I entered the country for the first time they checked my insurance date and stamped a "O-A entry" with that date (its entry date + min of (1 year OR upto insurance date)). After that, whenever I re entered I never got any other extensions OR any different date at airport immigration. I had a multi-entry OA visa. I entered thailand from both DMK and BKK.

Would you tell what your age is and what the insurance cost?

Age 57, insurance cost is around THB 8K with very very high deductible and exclusions, effectively its useless, only good enough as a PA insurance I guess. I didn't bother getting a proper 3.5M SA THB insurance which has no deductible because no insurance company will accept me without heavy underwriting process. Even if I pay a very high premium, there will be a lot of exclusions. I will rather get another reasonable SA insurance with affordable premium.

Since my original visa is OA I have no option regarding insurance, those who have non-o (retirement) are excluded from this insurance requirement. I do consider changing my visa type in future to avoid this cost.

@HerewardtheWake I do not qualify for LTR due to income limit. But yes, its an attractive option for long term stability (somewhat). Also note that there is insurance requirement for LTR, insurance renews every year so the visa also needs to be reviewed every year. Effectively, I still need to visit immigration every year and also need to buy the insurance every year. So, the effort is same as my current OA visa

Do it at airport. There is no risk.

Which airport will you depart from?

Suvarnabhumi, I am just worried, god forbid something goes wrong and I don't get enough time to go through the process of getting one reentry stamp before departure!

I have enough time now, will visit immigration happily. Getting this OA visa was very painful given all official rules are clear as mud, don't want to through it all again..

Your permission to stay stamp is May 2023, your OA visa sticker expires Dec. 2022. If you leave next week and return in early 2023 ( JAN-FEB ) you will need a re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay stamp alive and be stamped in again on your return to May 2023 because you would be returning after OA visa expiry ( DEC 2022 ). If you were to return to Thailand before OA visa expiry ( Dec 2022 ) you would get another 12 month stamp providing you have health insurance for the year as well or the IO will stamp you in to the expiry date of your health insurance.

    Thanks

  8. Hi there, I entered Thailand on May 2022 using a multi entry OA visa. This visa sticker has "valid to" date till Dec 2022.

Although, for some reason the immigration stamped my passport with can stay till "May 2023", I assume it's because they issue "entry date + 1 year"

Anyways, due to some reasons now I have to go back to my home country next week and then I might return sometime early next year (Feb). The question is, as my multiple entry sticker visa has valid till date of Dec 2022 but my stay until stamp is "May 2023", is it possible to get a multi entry stamp from Dec 2022 till May 2023 now and use this same visa for my next stay?

Why 3.5 million insurance? I remember it was 400/40K insurance. When did that become 3.5 million? I used to get OA when there was no insurance requirements and when they made  insurance requirement, I switched to an agent to convert the visa in to extension by paying 15K (no insurance required) and did so for the last two years but now re-entry permit has expired. I have to restart the process. Not sure if I get a Non-O or enter visa exempt (Or TV) this summer.

The rules have changed now, if interested in details have a look here.

  10. Hello ???? I got a brand new OA visa last year in December. For some reason the embassy asked for 400/40K insurance while issuing it, I obliged and provided the same (which turned out to be a mistake)

All happy with this new OA visa, and after getting around all the hassle of booking Thai pass with 7 day quarantine I finally landed in BKK airport just to be stopped by the immigration and telling me that embassy has made a mistake and I need a 3.5M THB insurance. It was pretty evident that, even though the mistake was made by the embassy, airport immigration was not willing to budge on this one. Ultimately they did not agree with me and I have to enter via visa exemption and then return back to my home country. I did went to CW immigration during my stay but they weren't helpful either and asked me to re enter the country to use the O A visa and a proper insurance.

Now, after a couple of months I plan to re enter Thailand on this visa, I already purchased a LMG Long stay 3.5M insurance from an agent but this time I don't want to get into another hassle hence looking for advice and experience.

Is this all I need now? This useless OA insurance certificate which states that I am covered for 3.5M THB? Is there anything else which I should know before doing this second attempt? What all documents is expected from me to be carried at immigration?

TLDR; entering Thailand on new OA visa, look for advice if I have correct insurance and suggestions/experience with airport immigration. Was not allowed to enter with this visa earlier because of incorrect insurance (which for some reason embassy approved)

  11. A colleague of mine is trying to get a job in Thailand. His employer mentions that all previous job experience letter should have a signature on them else they cannot be submitted to BOI office for BOI approval letter (which is required for visa application later). They also confirmed this with BOI immigration officer.

One of his ex employer only issues digital experience letters with no exceptions and if anyone whats to verify the authenticity of document, then they need to email the employer (a huge US corporation)

Even after contacting multiple people in the company, no one is able to provide a signed experience letter and instead recommending to ask BOI to email them and get it verified instead.

what are his options in this case? Is there any way to get this certified from some other agency in Thailand or elsewhere?

He he has a 15 day entry from a VOA he will have to leave the country before his current extension ends. A visa on arrival normally cannot be extended for any length of time or change to a non immigrant visa.

Actually he already has a covid extension (valid till march) over his VOA.

What I am wondering is, since now no new covid extensions are issued to people who have VOA or Non Immigrant visa, what happens to people who already got a valid covid extensions before the announcement. Do they all need to leave the country immigration now? Even though the old extensions are valid for few more weeks

  13. A friend of mine has a VOA 15 days(Indien) and a covid extension valid till March.

I just came across the news that VOA and non immigration visa holders cannot apply for new covid extension.

What does this mean for people who already hold the voa+ covid extension? I understand that they cannot apply for a new one going forward, but what about validity of existing extensions which are already stamped on their passport? Are they also now rendered invalid?

Your friend should just visit the nearest Immigration Office and ask. Tell him to bring all his personal stuff with him.

P.S. The cost of the Covid extension is 1900 thb. If your Indian friend paid , let's say, 500 thb to the agent - chances are pretty high his Visa is fake.

He paid way more than that to the agent! More than THB 10K for their service  ????

  15. An Indian friend of mine came to Thailand on 15 day VOA and then used an agent to get a covid extension for 60 days.

For some weird reason, he is not very trusting of the agent who got this done for him. Even though he has a visa extension stamp from an immigration office, the stamp doesn't mention any thing like "covid extension" or mention any reason why this extension was provided. It only mentions the date( 60 days from his voa expiry) till which he can stay.

Is this normal? Anyway to verify that this is a valid extension?
