  1. thank you for the info. I am waiting for my tax refund to get approved and then probably have to do the same thing (opening a Krungthai account)
  2. I am hoping more people can add their personal experience here. I am also due a tax refund (waiting for the confirmation) and don't have a Krungthai account. Does the account have to be in my name? or could I give them my wife's Krungthai account details?
  3. Being in my early thirties I am from a different generation and Ubon Joe is a great example of how to be generous without expecting anything in return. If, in my future years in Thailand, I can be of some help to just a fraction the number of people that he helped, I can be content. He truly was inspirational.
  4. Thank you very much for the useful advice.
  5. I am about to move into a new house (rental) and was thinking to get a couple of battery-powered smoke detectors from Lazada. (as the house doesn't have any) Is this a good idea? how much should I spend for a decent one? what about CO detectors, also needed?
  6. We just bought a new Veloz (Premium version) and drove it from Bangkok to Chiang Mai with all our belongings. There was a 3 months waitlist when we made our booking in September. I have no major complaints about the car. It drives nicely and I like the safety features. Averaging around 16km/L so far. One common complaint is that there is no cruise control, not sure if comparable Honda or Mazdas have it.
  7. on the topic of credit cards. What is everyone's experience with the yearly fees? Usually the fees are waived if spending over a certain limit, but last year both my cards offered to waive the fee even though I did not reach the limit (after I called them up) due to Covid. Not sure if the same is possible this year.
  8. Does anyone have any recent experience (in Bangkok) with obtaining a medical certificate for work permit from a local clinic, not a hospital? (for work permit extension, not initial application)My agent says that the labour office only accepts certificates issued by hospital now. Any truth to that? Usually, obtaining the certificate in a clinic is much faster and cheaper. Hence the question.
  9. Sorry to revive this old thread. Does anyone have recent experience (in Bangkok) with obtaining a medical certificate for work permit from a clinic, not a hospital? (for work permit extension, not initial application) My agent says that the labour office only accepts certificates issued by hospital now.
  10. I just ordered a new Toyota a few weeks ago. We checked out a few different dealers and the offers were somewhat different in terms of financing rates, discounts and freebies (but not hugely). What also helped me decide was to join a couple of facebook groups related to the car I was buying, where people post their experience and whether the dealership honored their promised delivery time.
  11. I was aware of this requirement. And I have done 90 day reports at CW in the past. So I didn't think that was going to be an issue. But unfortunately it was. I am wondering how someone who is traveling frequently enough to not be needing 90 day reporting would go about getting the Residence Certificate then..
  12. TaoNow, Thanks for your reply. I went to Chaeng Wattana this morning. I did have a printout of the acknowledgement page of the last 90 day report (online). But unfortunately for this immigration officer that was not good enough as the 90 day report was "too old" (about 1 year old, I have since traveled in/out of Thailand several times, so 90 day report was not needed). So they told me to either wait 90 days, do a new report and then apply for the Residence Certificate, or get it from the embassy instead.
  13. Did anyone recently get a Certificate of Residence at Chaeng Wattana / MTT and can tell me the list of required documents? Specifically, do they ask for a copy of the lease or not? (mine is expired..)
  14. Sorry to re-activate this old thread. I am curious about any recent experiences of giving birth at either Sriphat or RAM hospital in Chiang Mai. Especially when it comes to: - natural birth encouraged by doctor - can father be in the delivery room? - epidural available? - total cost
