Cost depends on the basis for the extension, and whether a change of visa status from Tourist to Non Immigrant is needed first. It also depends on whether you need to circumvent some of the customary requirements for the extension is question. 3-5k baht would be the cost if you can meet all the normal requirements. If there is an issue with the financials, you would be very lucky to have change from 11k (retirement) and that is a simple one, not requiring cooperation from the officials at division headquarters.

Thanks for your response. I have an elite visa and it should be a very straight forward process for them. I just want to avoid having to do it myself. I would like a tried and true service that has a good reputation with people on here.

I attempted to purchase a phone from AIS's site and it seems I need a Thai ID in order to purchase it with a plan.

Is it possible to do this with my passport as an American?

It will save me about 5,000 baht and I plan on getting a contract with AIS anyway.

Is there a way to do this or a good alternative way of buying a phone online, or do I have to go to their store? Thanks.

  3. I recently arrived into Thailand in mid October and was only given a 30 day exemption and I had to do a 11 day quarantine.

Is this normal or was there a mistake? Most people receive a 45 day exemption prior to this.

One way or the other, I am arriving at the conclusion of that exemption and will need to get an extension while I await the processing of my longterm visa.

Should I apply using the TM7 or is there a new way to do this in 2021? (I haven't done it since 2020)

    Thanks in advanced.

You would need to check with the Thai embassy where you are stay or the designated one for it if there is not one there.

Some will do them for non residents of the country they are in and others require them to be legal residents in the country.

List of embassies and official consulates is here with links for their websites. https://www.thaiembassy.org/

Okay, I'll give it a go. Thanks.

Can't imagine why anyone would come to Thailand in current situation.

I am not living in my home country anyway. I mostly want to come there for a beach view, different (better) food, and to see some friends. I don't mind all of the restrictions within the country, as I've already gone through it here. But you're correct, it isn't worth it for a short period of time. Within 6mos things should begin to ease.

I wonder if educational visas are an option from within the country? I have never gotten one.

Immigration and all other government offices will be closed to today. Also all main bank branches will also be closed.

    It is a official holiday.

    Thanks.

I went in today when it opened and it was pretty much a madhouse.

To their credit, the employees managed to get me through the system in under 2 hours while the queue was all the way out of the door by the time I left.

Cheers to them and thanks everyone here for saving me a trip yesterday.

  7. Hello TV,

I arrived to Thailand about 3-4 weeks ago and did not do a TM30 within 24 hours of arrival because I thought the hotel did it for me.

Now I have about a week until I need to go to immigration and ask them for a Visa Extension.

What documents do I need as an American under 40 to get a visa extension in Jomtien and what is a good way to go about getting them?

    Summary:

    -American under 40 years old

-On Visa Exemption (Tourist) and did not complete a TM30 myself

-Want to get a Visa Exemption in Jomtien and need the documents

What's the best way for me to go about this?

Thanks for all of your help.

The number given by google is the main embassy number. Tel: 202-944-3600

Did you call the consular section too? Tel: 202-684-8493

Yes, I've tried both. Many, many times. Not even the operator will accept the call.

Sometimes it will be busy and I will choose to hold, but then it will say there's nobody to answer the call. It's like they're actively dodging my calls.

And the Chicago embassy gave me a different number that's supposed to be "the new number".

Royal Thai Embassy, Washington DC: 202-640-5658

in case that helps anyone (not that they answer).

I've tried every number several times at every time of day: morning, after lunch, just before close, etc. NEVER once got an answer in DC. Only in Chicago.

The website says they take a minimum of 15 business days to process mail applications, so something must have gone wrong if it's been over 5 weeks. You could try contacting the Embassy rather than the consular section.

I've tried every number many times. The only one that has answered was the Chicago embassy and they said they couldn't even give me a status update for what goes on in DC. I'll give it another shot and use every option they give me when they re-open after their lunchbreak, like I did with the DC office though. Thanks.

I have a feeling their rating on Google would be very close to 1 star if not for the many Thai names giving it 5 stars. Maybe they choose to only answer calls from Thais? https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=thai+royal+embassy&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#lrd=0x89b7b64ebad85cbb:0xe8afdc2880bdfca0,1,,,

Who gave you this "great" idea?

According to Thai law you need to be in possession of an accepted identification document, by sending your passport away you broke this law

You are not allowed to apply for a visa from inside Thailand. And even if you get your passport back with a visa you might have trouble using it.

    *for Thailand

I'm in the USA right now. Sorry, that wasn't worded properly.

But the rest of my comment reflects that I'm in the USA and had to miss my flight.

I'm paying rent in Thailand right now despite being in the USA without a passport (because DC Thai Royal Embassy has it) and I still need to buy another ticket once I get it back.

But I can't get in contact with them.

Who oversees them that I can contact? I doubt they're just allowed to accept money and passports in the USA and keep them with no consequences, but it kind of seems like that's what's going on.

  11. This is the first time I've applied for a Visa in Thailand.

I'm American and mailed my passport and all documents to Washington DC Thai Royal Embassy 1 month and 11 days ago and since then I haven't heard any updates, nobody has answered the phone in 11 days (including the operator) and nobody has returned my 2 emails.

This included a $200 Money Order, $25 shipped both ways, 1 MISSED FLIGHT because they have my passport, and now I've been paying for rent & travel insurance in Thailand as I wait here with nobody answering my calls.

Can anyone please help me resolve this? What action should I take. Is there anything else I can do other than reporting my passport stolen?

    Thank you in advanced.

    edit:

-I've called Chicago and they said they can't help with anything from the DC office.

-My package definitely DID arrive there

-I cannot check if they cashed my Money Order or not

What if you tell them you're retired so unable to provide either of these?  Retired folk can be regular tourists too.

I have a decent amount of money in the bank, but not enough to retire on.

I'm under 40. So they probably wouldn't buy it, but it's technically true, I guess.

I've been calling them since they claim to have opened for the day, but nobody is picking up.

Depending on where you are applying, there may be no solution. Some embassies will accept your most recent tax assessment as proof of self employment.

Good idea, thanks. I just happen to have a copy of State and Federal already printed.

I think I will use that & the deposits I've received from exchanges.

I'd rather not have to scurry around and create a shell company just to apply considering the entire point is to prove that I will have enough money to support myself.

If anyone else can add another solution or suggestion that will increase my odds I'd love to hear it.

  14. I am American. One of the requirements is:

"8. A letter proof of employment ( **we don’t accept pay stubs**)"

    and

"10.For self-employed, business license or business registration indicating the applicant’s name."

and I have neither of these things.

I trade cryptocurrency and stocks. I have earned more than enough and have more than enough in savings to fulfill the requirement.

What would be an acceptable way for me to prove this to Thai Immigration?

Would they take a bank statement with all of the payments from cryptocurrency Exchanges?

    Thanks in advanced.
