I am really bullish on Vietnam for this exact reason. Very favorable demographics, huge urbanization potential, lots of room for catch-up growth, and a population with a relatively more Northeast Asian work-ethic. I intend to spend more time there familiarizing myself with the country/culture once the pandemic situation normalizes. Pretty easy call for attractive long-horizon growth.
Conversely Thailand over the same horizon is facing the same intense demographic challenges of other Asian countries like Japan and South Korea, but without the deep capital reserves and advanced economy. And it seems too late to build up these buffers before the aging tsunami hits. I'm not sure that there's the appetite in Thailand for mass immigration either.
I think the country will still be a fun place for the next 10-15 years, but unless something radical happens in that time, stagnation/decline thereafter seems pretty inevitable.
You do realize all long term visas are now redundant and a push to drive all farang out of the country that was before covid so that's brutal communism for you and your bullish and want to spend time there.. How exactly? Very poor choice with poor research

This thread is in part about vaccination cards required for dine in.
The gf just now informs me that on Thai breaking news this requirement has been knocked on head
Any confirmation?
Makes sense.

Buy a TV with more than one service center. Especially make sure it's close to you. Getting to Bangkok with a 65 TV from Isaan....

Wouldn't be difficult to surpass Thailand in terms of tourism as well. Just scrap the part regarding ridiculously complicated rules...
Your joking they have stopped issuing visas and are kicking out expats with longstay visas and borders locked tight It's a nightmare! They would have trouble surpassing Afghanistan let alone Thailand

Those of us that came via sandbox already have the correct paper work. Now we gotta hope they address this. Probably didn't even cross the their minds that tourists also qualify.

The Thais just don't stick to these types of rules for any length of time.
This is not just some buhdist holidays being naughty with beer in a coffee mug.
Expect the fines to be massive for diners and the resteraunts
Of course some will chance it but it's nieve to think they all will
The thais don't mind handing out 5 year trading bans on establishments breaking the laws either

No offense but you wrote your post like it was absolute fact when your wife works in just the one resteraunt out of thousands.

Unvaccinated expats are going to be doing it tough for a while especially if new rules spread to shopping malls, pools gyms etc... And you know it will.

In Hong Kong restaurants and bars etc went through the Covid dance....first fully open, then closed, then takeaways only (limited hours) then open again with limited seating.
But now, all staff must be vaccinated, back to fully open (with alcohol served) and bustling business.
Only about 30% of HK vaccinated (free and choice of Sinovac or Pfizer)
But no checking if customers are vaxed or not.
They just risk it, but weekly infections only around 1 or 2.
Strict entry restrictions and 21 days quarantine except from a few places like Oz and NZ.
So, customers are happy (Honkies eat out a lot...lunch and dinner ) restaurant and bar owners happy, staff happy.

Were you are estate agent in a former life?

How many customers will restaurants get if they demand proof of double vaccination? Methinks a lot of places will ignore that requirement just to make some money.
At there own peril. Thailand has a nasty habit of slapping establishments with 5 year bans! and fining the customers 40 k baht just like they do with bars.

I can't stop laughing 555555 as if it could work here.
Even in EU fakes are everywhere and someone here believe that it will work ?
My personal printer is ready !!!
They said that about sandbox here on TV . Everyone 5555 my printer is ready! CHINESE will sell it! etc etc
Unfortunately absolutely no way to forge a vaccination card requirement. They did a brilliant job with that so let's see the final product before having a giggle

There are only hard choices here.
They can continue the endless rounds of restrictions and lockdowns. Open the country right up with zero restrictions or start to introduce what a lot of the world will eventually anyway.
The first 2 options are crazy.
Sure they should have had vaccinated everyone one already but they didn't and pointless arguing about it. The upper and middle class have mostly purchased jabs or will do on this news
As usuall it's the poor lower class that will be punished,

Honestly the thought of being old/crippled/mentally handicapped and extremely venerable in Thailand during my oldest years makes me extremely uncomfortable. IMO it should make anyone uncomfortable.
At least at home and no matter what ill be able to get medicare and dont need to worry about strung about by strangers.
Sick Dinosaur expats 70+ die really quick after repatriation. The west does not care about old men and depression will set in fast
They become invisible.
Far better to hire a "helper" here, will add years to one's life.

I wish they'd ban liquor in checked bags. 3 times in BKK, I found my bag soaked with someone else's booze when their bottle apparently broke in the hold and leaked all over everyone's luggage. And flaming shots in a cargo compartment seems like a hazard.
Lick the bags while waiting at immigration. Win win

Everybody I know with a New Elite card are flying to Vancouver Canada Sept 1 because the restrictions are gone for double vaccinated arrivals. They can enjoy the Okanagan Valley and going fishing on Vancouver Island.
A hell of a lot better then going to an ugly run down closed up rat, wire infested and impoverished Phuket. Some places don't need Elite cards to get attention. Including a swab test in the letter is a real winner.
Oh my what a drama queen!
