  1. Yeah, true, but stabbings are pretty rare here in Vancouver..... in thailand they're a daily occurrence, whether they involve foreigners or not. I used to love Thailand but I kinda got sick of it lately. Too many issues. MIght go there on holiday again but not sure (also flights are a lot more expensive these days). I still find their attempts to lure the richest foreigners pretty pathetic. I guess some idiots will go for it, but any millionaire with a brain should know that if you are loaded there are millions of better places than Thailand to spend your cash.
  2. well, aside from the facetious conclusion the post you replied to was spot on so I don't really get your reaction. Covid has been in Thailand since day one, thinks to the people walking across the porous borders with Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam.... and the draconian rules on international travel have made absolutely no difference. The Thailand pass, the tests etc were, are, and will be nothing but ways to squeeze any possible baht out of a visitor's pocket and/or to allow the idiots running the country to pretend they were actually doing something about the situation.
  3. meant sarcastically, but potheads are definitely much better tourists than alcoholics... sure they might drink and spend less, but they'll just enjoy their life instead of looking for fights. But it's all moot anyways.... 'Cannabis' with less than -.2% THC is NOT Cannabis, it's hemp (I'm from Canada, where pot is legal as it should be in any civilized country so I know what I'm talking about) This is typical thai stupidity... Yeah, let's 'legalize' some hemp and call it Cannabis so we can keep the local conservative morons happy and at the same time attract a lot of tourists... Good plan, guys, except for one teensy, weensy little detail... Nobody in the west is stupid enough to mistake hemp for Cannabis and nobody will go to smoke thie garbage (even the best weed, fully illegal of course, they have is garbage compared to BC bud from Canada, not a chance in hell anybody will go there to smoke their hemp) whatever, they could do the right thing, legalize for real and get a lot more tourists (not to mention it would also benefit many locals since it is a very useful medication as well) but they prefer their <deleted> schemes that won't have any positive result... I'm seriously debating never going back there... I've had enough of thai stupidity.
  4. HI guys, So I'm in Hua Hin, currently on a tourist visa. I thought it would be reasonably easy to open a bank account, but the two branches I visited today (Bangkok bank and Kasiorn) didn't allow me to do so. Bangkok bank said I needed a letter from immigration about my address (not sure I can get one on a tourist visa, even though I do have a long term residence and plan to stay here for a while) Alternatively they said I could purchase some kind of life insurance with them (ain't gonna happen and how bizarre!) Those were branches reasonably close to the center.... so not sure should I go to the immigration and see if I can get a letter? Do you guys know any local banks that let tourists open bank accounts? any hep would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Lol, so cannabis is legal as long as it's not cannabis.... Wat a joke Thailand in a nutshell
  6. The point of letting in the 200,000 that, like me, already applied (I literally got my thai pass last night) is not so much to get tourists, as much as the fact that to get the thai pass we booked flights and spent money on hotels, insurance and testing... If at the last minute they void their thai pass, and make us lose a bunch of money in the process, it probably won't motivate us, or anybody else for that matter, to try to plan vacations over there in the future. Why would anybody go through all that again knowing that they can just deny us entry at the last minute? As it is they are doing plenty of stupid things, imo, but at least they're honoring the thai passes they already issued. If they didn't they would lose face big time. Having said all that, I agree that voiding those passes would have made more sense from a safety standpoint... but then again it's really a small number. Imo, honoring already issued passes is the right choice.
  7. Well, I got my thai pass yesterday, based on the test and go program..... supposed to leave on Friday (from Vancouver) not sure I should now, though..... it looks like right now I just have to do one extra test one week later but if that is positive than I would end up in quarantine, plus they could change the rules again while I"m traveling and force me to do a quarantine once I land (hopefully not but anything is possible with these idiots) any thoughts? By the way I'm not a tourist...anybody wanting to go to Thailand as a tourist right now needs a psychiatrist... I'm one of the many guys who just want to reunite with a girlfriend/family. The woman will be <deleted> if I postpone my return again. crazy stuff
  8. HI basic info- I'm a Canadian citizen, early fifties so, I recently managed to get a tourist visa for Thailand. Sorting out the thai pass atm. I'm not a tourist; my overall plan is to reunite with my girlfriend, get married and then apply for a non-immigrant visa. Since I can still work for my Canadian employer online I understand I could apply for the visa because of the 'making more than 40,000 baht a month' stipulation. Had a look at some of the requirements (online and at the local consulate) but I'm still not clear on one thing. What kind of documents do I need to bring in from Canada to apply for that visa? I know I have to get some kind of letter from the embassy, to prove my income, but how would the embassy know how much I make? Do I need to bring some documents from Canada with me, like a letter from my employer or from my bank, or an ROE? If you got a similar visa any advice would be really appreciated.
  9. Well, man, I'm glad the mismatched dates were not an issue for you. In my case, however, those dates were considered a reason for rejecting my registration twice.... Like I said, glad it worked out for you but it's still very weird that some applications with mismatched dates are being accepted and others aren't. Once again, Thailand looks like a total mess. Anyways, my hotel sent me another booking confirmation with dates that match my flight now. Kinda ridiculous I even had to ask but okay, whatever. So I reapplied, but this time with dates that match and a new confirmation letter from the hotel. If for whatever reason I still don't get my QR that's it for me and Thailand. I've spent enough money and time on their <deleted>. I guess my fiancee will have to find another husband if that's the case.
  10. What 'relaxed entry rules'? Right now Thailand is one of the hardest countries to get to.
  11. well, man, I really appreciate your posts and find them useful... But honestly I'm not sure you're one hundred percent correct. I mean, another poster had the exact same issue and yet 2 applications were accepted and one was rejected. It seems to me like it's the usual thai way... no clear criteria, no common sense, just a bunch of idiots doing whatever they like without any rhyme or reason. Anyways, for the time being the hotel I booked is not responding to my emails (asked them to help me fix it, either by giving me a letter with the right dates or having me check in the next day but yeah, so far no response...very nice considering it's already pretty expensive) so I tried just re-registering with the exact same data I had last time (and a comment about the late arrival) It looks like it's pretty random anyways... so, who knows, I might get lucky. And if not I will be rejected in 2-3 days and I should have time for one more attempt (flight booked for the 21st). Still, if the hotel won't do anything to help me I could re-book for another day (and wast2-300 dollars) or give up on going to Thailand. One thing is for sure, if my fiance wasn't there I would never, ever go back to this country of total morons. And if for whatever reason I can't make it there this month, despite all the work I put into it and the money I spent, just because of their stupidity, I will have to start seriously considering looking for a new fiancee. I now hate thai bureaucracy with a passion and I'm not sure I could live there after all. Among other things, I gave my notice at my current apartment (a fantastic deal that is almost unheard of in expensive Vancouver) and if I can't move now I will be forced to pay more in rent in the future and waste a lot of money.
  12. dude, the guy just said: "You booked the wrong day", which imo doesn't help since no, I did not book the wrong day. It's not just a matter of common sense.... this is supposed to be a quarantine, so we are supposed to go to the hotel once we land, not after 12-15 hours of loitering about in airports. My booking was correct, it's not my fault thai authorities are too stupid to understand what a late arrival is.
  13. Unfortunately I did enter the correct flight, the one from Narita and that lands in Bangkok so I guess that if somebody did review the application whoever reviewed mine is a total moron. Meantime, my registration is still canceled and so far the hotel hasn't replied. I"m kinda screwed here, although I suppose I could try and reapply and hope someone with a brain looks at my application
  14. this is weird... but maybe they only check certain things automatically. The dates discrepancy would be easy to detect by a machine but I think a human would realize I just arrive late at night.
  15. I arrive five minutes after the 28th turns into the 29th dude.....
  16. actually I don't think this would work because the thai pass website also asks for the checkout date.... so it might work at first if, like you said, the system just looks at the dates I reported, but if somebody checks my documents later on they might see the incorrect dates in my confirmation letter (28th to 29th). I'm worried it might get rejected any ways but it might take longer and then I would have less time to reapply. thanks for the advice, though. Any help is appreciated.
  17. Dude, are you thai? Does the term 'common sense' elude you? They can set their <deleted> regulations up any way they want but that doesn't change the fact that if I arrive at 12.05 am I can't book a hotel on the same date, it has to be for the date before. If I booked for the 29th I'd have to wait for twelve hours at the airport before I can check in. So, yeah, sure, just setting up the computer to compare dates is easier for them, but it will prevent many legit travelers like me from completing the thai pass because the dates don't take into consideration how traveling works in reality.
  18. I did contact the hotel but in the meantime I'll try what you suggested.
  19. I see your point but according to common sense a booking is valid from the date of arrival to the next day. Since I land at 12.05 pm I need a booking for the 28th and 29th, which I do have. Anyways, regulations are rather strict... and so yeah, I guess they can look at it as the wrong date. It's poorly set up, that's the bottom line.
  20. My hotel is actually booked for the correct date... In the sense that I will staying the night between the 28th and the 29th, so, yeah, booking for the 28th is technically correct. It's not my fault the stupid this pass site just looks at dates and doesn't understand that arriving at five minutes past midnight on the 29th really means I have to book the hotel for the 28th.
  21. Okay, thanks, I contacted the hotel. I hope they can help me out. (but I guess you mean they changed the date to the next day even though you were arriving in the early am) I mean in my case arrival date 29th, hotel booking 28th (night from 28th to 29th) so I would need a confirmation that says I will stay there on the 29th
  22. yeah, their system is pretty bad. I'll try your suggestion man, although I'm not sure the hotel will help me out. Still, yeah, this is idiotic. Anyways, thanks for the advice, I"ll try to contact the hotel
  23. HI gusy, so I recently obtained a 60 day tourist visa and proceeded to register for the thai pass. I have all the documents required and and I filled in the application. However, my registration was rejected: Thailand Pass system has rejected your registration due to Mismatch arrival date and hotel booking So, here's the thing... I arrive in BKK at 12.05 am on the 29th of November so I indicated the 29th as my arrival date. However, since I need a room for the night between the 28th and the 29th my reservation is for the 28th. It goes without saying that rejecting my registration was retarded, but thai stupidity is well known already. So, did anybody have the same problem? And, most importantly, how do I fix it? I have two weeks to get my pass but not sure how to go about this. I could change the departure date, but then they could look at the flight itinerary and say it's incorrect. Also, my insurance is from the 29th, so changing the departure date would lead to more problems? Any thoughts? This looks like a real mes..... any help would be really appreciated
  24. So, just in case anybody's still following this thread: I got my visa, and it was actually processed in one day. Looks like the Vancouver consulate is very efficient. Maybe I shouldn't have postponed my flight, but then again I still ahve to get the Thai pass and that one has issues they need to resolve so...whatever Anyways, I'm pretty clear on what is needed now to get the visa. If you have any questions post them here and I'll help you out.
